These guys went out of their way to make sure that my house completion happened on time. I know that most banks get a bad rep but Halifax really did help me out. Sometimes it is worth getting to know the local branch staff!

After a really stressful experience with Woolwich who we bank with, were recommended by the broker to go through Halifax. Due to my partner having overtime, etc. they requested an employer's reference, that's why it got a bit delayed. But got a 90% mortgage granted by Halifax no problem. We did have to provide a letter explaining some late payments in the past, which we did, so it was fine. As long as you go through a broker, are honest with them and have no major credit problems, Halifax are absolutely fine and unlike Barclays welcome new business. You do need to do some chasing up as they are very busy now but as long as you are not hiding anything and all info matches the one on the application form, nothing to be afraid. Happy bunny now and would be transferring all my funds and savings from a disgraceful Barclays. Offer in place and the paperwork is really nice and clear to understand. Their APR is a bit higher than the others but hey, it's worth it if you want to get a mortgage.

I was refused mortgage by Abbey on 22 October and I applied to Halifax on the same day via my mortgage broker. Was worried as I had already been refused and there were footprint on my credit file. On 4 October I was offered Halifax mortgage. Happy day!!! Now hoping they won't withdraw offer after reading other people's experiences here!!

I was very worried reading reviews on here as I had applied for a loan to consolidate a few bits around the time that I applied for my mortgage. However, I need not have worried - I was honest with my broker and had an A rating for mortgage purposes. I still worried up until the day I got the call to say the money came in, as it didn't arrive with the solicitor until 4pm which was the last payment run of the day.... they kept me informed throughout, and then sent me a lovely hamper of moving in goodies to say welcome to our new home. A nice touch really. Only feedback I would give them is it would be nicer to know when your first payment was coming out in advance of it happening - after moving I received a letter to tell me my first payment was coming out in 7 days plus an extra 3 days of interest as we didn't complete until the 28th September. My next payment comes out just 3 weeks from then so didn't give me much time to save... it would be better really if they could leave it until the end of the month as most people get paid then. Anyway, I would rate them as a provider and just be honest about your circumstances when applying.

Just looking through all the mortgage lenders reviews and it seems that no one likes their mortgage lender - I guess rightly so. But to review something means that you need to be truthful and truthfully speaking I've been with Halifax for years. Yep I hate mortgage lenders period as they fiddle with their underlying rates to make you pay more - but in the end they all do it. Tp be honest I've always gotten a good rate out of Halifax - they;ve treated me ok and I will continue to use them.

I applied for a Halifax mortgage through a broker just over a month ago – The house I am buying is steel framed – so the choice of high street lenders offering to mortgage non standard construction was limited greatly. However, Halifax agreed – and so we proceeded with the application. The whole process has been pretty stress free. We move into our new home next Friday – and considering that this was a non standard construction, and also that my husband is self employed – I thought this was super fast. Neither myself or husband have had adverse credit – he has an excellent credit score of 970 and mine is classed Good at 904. However, when I started this process – it was only 806 (fair) as I have been clearing a lot of dept in preparation for a new house. We also only had a 10% deposit.. My only complaint is the number of credit searches they added to my file – An initial soft check for the Agreement in Principle, one in my married name, one in my maiden name (my fault for not using my married name at work), one to make the final offer (again a soft footprint) and another one to release the funds. Seems a bit excessive to me. I hope this does not affect my credit score – as I will likely need a loan soon for home improvements. I have heard instances online where the Halifax have withdrew the offer at the last minute – but this is usually due to a change in the credit report – do not apply for further credit until you have the mortgage funds – not even a new mobile phone – it will change your affordability calculation …. And it’s not just the Halifax – most banks now do one last credit check before releasing funds. All things considered – I would definitely recommend the Halifax for a mortgage.

I have used Halifax for my mortgage over the past 20 odd years. I have run into a couple of payment problems in my time, and they were fine with it - not heavy at all. They have a UK call centre which is a bonus, and they are fair all round. I would happily use them again as I feel they are a name you can trust.

I was really happy with the service provided by halifax. They were very supportive and understanding with changes. We put an offer in on a house after having a mortgage promise with them. Then pulled out on the house and decided on another house.
They didnt do the survey on the initial house until my say so, and the mortgage advisor was helpful whenever I called him.
The actual deal was definately the best on the market and when we worked it out even if the base rate goes up by 1% over next year we would still be better off compared to a fixed!

There is no arrangement fee, and it is a thorough service with a good interest rate. Unfortunately, it is not easy to contact them when there is a problem, and they have very high fees for default payments, but I would use the Halifax for a mortgage again.

I have had nothing but great help from the Halifax team that deal with my mortgage, and I have had an advance on my mortgage. It was so easy and straight forward. I have nothing but admiration for the staff that I have had dealings with.
They tried to sell me too many insurances while on the phone for other reasons. They should back off with the insurance selling. If we wanted insurance we would be phoning them for it. Other than that, well done Halifax staff.

Know which department to deal with or use a financial adviser, as they don't charge.
Transferred us from one product to another quickly and easily. You just have to have the right number to call, which I found on the internet. Good relations at local branch too.
