There are really no elements that I actually like about this hoover with the exception of the bagless bit. It's so noisy it gives me headache and I can't count the number of times it has hit my legs or fallen over because the nozzle does not have any 'give'. I contacted Hoover about the noise and the nozzle but got an incomprehensible reply much along the lines of, you want it lightweight, it will be noisy. This hoover is no doubt a serious accident waiting to happen - those buying... (read more)

This vacuum cleaner is a design disaster! Here's why..... *The vacuum is so light and the suction so powerful when using the hose, that the vacuum constantly topples over. *The flex is far too short to vac even a whole bedroom. *The flex runs from the base of the vacuum so it's easy to run over it and chew up. *The flex holder is far too small to hold it properly. *The only tool, a brush, constantly falls off its holder. *The dust cylinder is so small that it needs emptying after every... It has great suction, that's it's only plus point. Annoying - The heat it gives out is incredible it is more like a massive hair dryer and so noisy I have thought of ear defenders. The thing tips over all the time if you dare to use the hose and hits you or worse in my case the TV. It has sucked the cable up and partially set on fire after blowing the house fuses. The pet hair attachment is broken and so is the belt after six weeks of light use it is going to the tip, there is no point of... (read more)

Although I have had no problems with the belts or the pet hair tool breaking, there was always a lot of movement in the handle and the clip eventually wore away. The flex is far to short. On the plus side, the suction was incredible if you kept the fiters clean, far better than any dyson I had used. Just a shame about the design fault. I bought mine through direct vacuums who refunded the cost so no blame attached to them (read more)

THis is such a bad vacuum cleaner, we have used 3 belts in 6 weeks....simply by catching the edge of a rug!!
How can Hoover create a vacuum with such a short flex and a flex which comes out at the bottom, so you run over it if you are not very careful.
Also the belt design is a nonsense as is the dark red plastic dust holder, impossible to see when full.
A complete waste of money.....and I haven't mentioned the jet engine noise leve!!!!!. DON'T BUY THIS!!!!
We are returning to Dyson.

Bought this about 18 mnths ago via Tesco. Pet hair brush worked a couple times then failed....so did the replacement. The small brush attachment is a joke and the person who designed it has hopefully changed their career path. Also the attachments are oval so that you cannot use rounded attachments ......well you can if you take the tube fitting of an old vac. What a pile off rubbish....hoover should refund everybody whom purchased this product (read more)

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
Bought in May 2010 and by the end of July it had broken down twice. Two broken belts later and a number of conversations with a terribly rude 'customer services' team I have had enough and will never buy a Hoover product again. This Hoover is not fit for purpose after only a couple of uses. I was told the reason it broke was because "I had probably hoovered something up with it." DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT.

We saved up for a new vacuum cleaner and decided to buy the Hoover Hurricane because my grandmother had one for years, it had a high power (2000W) and could cope with pet hair. However, soon after buying it, we found that the pet hair tool was completely ineffective. Later on the suctioning decreased because it was unable to clean the carpet as effectively when we first bought it. The dust should collect below the maximum mark but despite cleaning the filters regularly, the dust is... (read more)

Save money - buy a hoover, but be prepared to have to replace it every 12 months! Our Hurricane is now on its way to the dump after turbo brush attachment failed, foot release mechanism broke so it won't stand upright, and 2nd drive belt failed. Stay well clear of this heap of cheap tat. PS Why is the main dust collecting drum made of dark smoked plastic so that you can't see when its full? (read more)

Bought this product due to the reputation of Hoover. It looked good, and, being bagless, seemed a good alternative to the more expensive Dyson. Big mistake. The belt has gone 4 times in as many months - it is so sensitive, that it even broke when picking up a samll piece (about an inch square)of wrapping from a chocolate bar. Its costing a fortune in belts, which are not easy to find in the shops - if I continue using it, I will need to buy belts in bulk. The flex is extremely short,... (read more)

At 16 months old the plastic this vaccuum is made from has perished, split and is now being held together by sticky tape. The telescopic handle is unusable, I wanted to get another handle, but when I looked on the parts/accessories section of Hoover's website, it isn't a part which is stocked. Frustrating, especially as it's just out of warranty. (read more)

Belt has snapped after 9 months and after being bounced between Rep. of Ireland and UK offices (I'm in Northern Ireland) I was told a belt is a COSMETIC(?) component and will not be replaced under warranty. I hate Hoover Hurricane and am off to buy something else!
Now two weeks out of warranty it has finally given up the ghost. The belt has broken, the telescopic handle button has cracked so it can't extend and I am left leaning over the machine. The filters are useless and it overheats on a regular basis. Fluff collects in the front of the machine around the brush and then gets spat out all over the place. The attachments are the worst I have ever used, there are only two of them and both are...

Bought what we thought was going to be a good vaccuum cleaner, the Hoover hurricane, it was reasonably small and compact, didn't have to worry about buying bags for it as over time bags can become quite expensive therefore we thought we would save money, yeah well phooey!!! we only have carpet in 3 small rooms in our house which is rarely used, I vaccuum only once per month for a deep clean, the rest of the house is swept then mopped. The 2000w suction was the main reason I bought the Hurricane and the fact that it's by Hoover. Obviously trying to keep the cost down and choosing a reputable product was also a key issue.
Everything about it is excellent apart from the cord, definitely too short.

Bought the Hoover Hurricane Extra and got to say nothing but disappointed. Within 1 week of buying it lost its suction when using as upright. Then it started leaving what i call tracks of fluff etc when you hoovered. Last than a month now and the only way it will hoover things up is to go down on your knees with the hose.
Waste of money, didnt contact them decide to get flooring instead

Like many people on here, i purchased this vac, purely based on Hoover's reputation, a promise of ease of use and good glossy looks. Over a period of 14 months it gradually became noisy, then it simply cut out. So I contacted HOOVER, who were not interested as the 12 months were up, so after having a shout at them, I hung up the phone.
I then called and asked what the problem could be, where I was told that the belts must be replaced after 12 months, they were slipping and must be...

As with previous review, our Hoover Hurricane has lasted 2 years and I am replacing it with a Miele. This is not the first time it has broken and I can't even be bothered to get it fixed as it is rubbish. The foot release has broken so the Hoover won't stay upright and this has affected the suction. Every time it's fixed it costs over £40. DO NOT BUY. (read more)

I bought the Hoover Hurricane Extra Vacuum Cleaner, because it had no bags or filters, and had a very powerful motor. I was initially very pleased with it, although it was irritating to have to take it to pieces to thoroughly empty it out, and I felt that there was some design flaw here. However, after around 14 months (just outside the one year guarantee), it became incredibly noisy, and after a strip down, it became obvious that something inside was not right. I did not bother to... (read more)

The Hoover Hurricane Extra is the second model we owned in this range of vacuum cleaners after the first one had a motor failure after 2 years. That should have been a warning sign. This model is now failing to pick up after ... 2years.
It's a relief as we have never been absolutley happy with it and look forward to getting something different. On the surface it looks good, comes with all the right tools, is easy to empty and has the powerful suction you expect from a 1700W motor.
