    Good Points: Quick on the phone, good Internet site, helpful and polite.

    General comments: I have banked with First Direct for 13 years and I have been impressed by the courtesy and efficiency of the staff I deal with, they always seem to be happy to help even at outrageous hours of the night. They have kept me informed without bombarding me and I cannot say anything against them.

    My wife and myself have banked with First Direct for in excess of 10 years and always found them helpful, UNTIL we needed them. Our account has always been well managed and in the black. We were looking to obtain a bridging type loan to purchase a property abroad.     I have just received my monthly statement. For each of the five days on which I exceeded my overdraft limit, first direct has charged me £25. Total charge: £125 Plus, of course, there's the debit interest -- just over £8. How can this have any relation to the costs that first direct have incurred in servicing my overdraft???     I have banked with first direct for just over a year now and have found them to be provide excellent 24/7 customer service. Whenever I have contacted them, I have never been transferred to another department or operator which has certainly been the case with previous banks that I have banked with, and my queries have always been answered wholly.     DISCRIMINATION.... I have never felt in my life that I am labelled as "working class" or "lower class". You just don't face that attitude often nowadays. I live in a nice village in my own house, divorced with two children. I feel proud what I have achieved in life. Upper class? Middle class? Who cares - I'm happy just being me, not labelled.     I have banked with First Direct since 1993 and it is an excellent bank. Recently, as an executor of someone's will, I had contact with another bank and was reminded of the awful customer service I left all those years ago.

    Been with First Direct Internet Banking www.firstdirect.com for 10 years and always found them good to deal with. Had only one screw-up which could have had disastrous consequences. Matter resolved swiftly (at Xmas time, too) and fees involved refunded. When I decided that I would like an explanation for the screw-up and contacted them, a senior member of management telephoned me and the fees were refunded a second time. Sort of money for nothing, from a bank. Sweet.

    I've been with First Direct a few years now and always found their phone service and people to be first class. Their on line account is reasonably intuitive to use though it could be more so. This is a bank where the staff actually comprehend what they are doing instead of following blind processes and scripts. True they may have scrapped free banking in certain (limited) conditions but if you want an excellent service then expect to pay the bank and not your phone company.

    I was with First Direct Internet Banking www.firstdirect.com for 7 years never needed a over draught then I was unlucky enough to be hit hard financially by a totally unexpected change in my life. After being a model customer for 7 years, for a total of nine months First Direct drove me deeper into despair, high charges, threats, withdraw of cards, all because I was going into a unagreed overdraught by a misly £100, When I asked them for a overdraught to cover the £100 they refused. ...

    7 years of pure banking heaven. Simple efficient and a joy to deal with. A fantastic Internet site that works very well and can change the way you plan your finance to great benefit. What ever way you cut it they are just about as good as you could make banking.     First Direct was a great bank, but now I fall below the minimum salary level (by £100) I only qualify for an account because I have a small savings account. Once these funds are used, I will have my account closed. I used to have a £250 overdraft facility, now I have to pay £25 for this facility.     First Direct is a fantastic bank. It doesn't make me feel like a number but an individual. I have never had any problems with FD. I am always treated with respect and courtesy. I recently had one of their representatives ring me to review my accounts where they suggest things that could save you money. In my case I had a large balance on a credit card with them and swapped this for a loan. It has saved me over '£100 per month. No other bank has done that before. They would be getting more ...

    At First Direct Internet Banking the telephone staff are always very pleasant and helpful. At my age I feel much more confident and competent on the telephone than at the computer so possibly I'm inclined to be a little unfair on there Internet Banking System.
