    FD used to be really good, but now their savings rates are really bad, no interest on current account (Does have a fee free overdraft upto £250). There is also a charge if you dont pay enough int your current account every month, so no good if you dont earn more than £1500 NET a month, fee is waived if you have an additional product, so open a savings account for a pound and your ok. but why!!!
    FD recently slapped a debit on my credit card from a company who had my card number from years ago and I have since changed my address, obviously no security checks are being done, have therefore moved all my banking to another bank as a result of their lax security arrangements, appears they approve transactions based simply on the card number. I want nothing to do with any financial institution who operate like that.

    I have used First Direct for nearly 10 years, I have a current account, joint current account, savings and ISA with First Direct. I have always had my calls picked up in under 30 seconds and any extra charges from going overdrawn have been waived as long as i had money in my savings account. I have been put on credit card HOLD once whilst I was on holiday but this was resolved really quickly.     I have been with First Direct Internet Banking for about 10yrs and i have always found them to be very helpful and understanding i have my mortgage with them and my savings all in one place dead easy to use. its just a shame that they dont do business banking i would put my business with them, over the years they have been great even when i was out of work and strugling they was even good then and i even had overdrawn payments paid back to me, even now with the downturn they have been good as lo ...

    Utterly useless. You have to communicate via a tiny text window (like a mobile phone). You have no copy of the text unless you take screen shots.
    The first direct accounts keep getting blocked for "securty review" even though they are in the black. You then cannot access YOUR money.
    They seem unable to resolve a "verified by VISA" issue with one of my credit cards where the information on the face of the card (name, expiry date etc.) are ejected before even inputting a password. This makes the c ...

    Applied for a First Direct Internet saving account and was told that I'd have to open a current account and switch my salary / direct debits / standing orders to be able to get one.

    Two weeks later and they've finally got around to setting up my current account and everything is being switched and they turn around and tell me the savings account is no longer available and I can't therefore have one!!!

    No hesitation in recommending First Direct. Exemplary, human, round the clock top notch customer service. Always helpful and looking to help, in clear contrast with other organisations who talk about service but fail to deliver.

    Memo to HSBC... keep FD separate - it really works!

    Recently they've started withdrawing money (bills) from our account later in the day then they use to. This has led to use being overdrawn later in the day. When you work shift work, you don't went to be switching on your computor at 11:30pm when you get home from work to transfer money from one account to another. This is starting to happen quite regular.

    If you don't need to go into a branch then First Direct Internet Banking should suit you. Easy to use online, and pay bills.

    First Direct is a totally different approach to banking. If they can help then they will.
    They speak to you like a human being.
    I am one of the lucky people with no financial worries but I know that if I had a problem then I would be able to talk to someone at First Direct and get some helpful advice.
    They are the only bank to be customer focused and I don't mean they are trying to sell you every financial product on the market.

    I cannot speak of First Direct highly enough. 18 years and never, but never have I come even close to a problem. Real people, real customer service, real results. They should be a model framework for all internet banking operations.

    I have been a First Direct customer for about 17 years and in all this time I cannot think of one negative thing to say about them. The level of customer service is very high. The staff that man the telephone banking service are always helpful and polite and the response times are always prompt. The internet banking service is very easy to navigate. I would highly recommend First Direct.

    First Direct set their standards very high. Other banks do not seem to notice or care. Always there, never a problem to help you out no matter what time or day. They supply all your banking needs.
    You can even have the account open if you are not living in this country or do not have an address here. They'll do practically anything that you may wish, and be pleasant at the same time.
    Nothing is a problem to them.

    I think First Direct is first class I have been with them for nearly 20 years never had a problem,I like the friendly staff always very helpful, and internet banking is easy for me,and thats saying something I am an OAP and female!! .

    Excellent telephone service - always speak to a real person who is able to help with whatever is needed.
    Clear communications.
    Very smooth transfer of current accuont from my old bank.

    Superb telephone service
    Friendly people
    Keep telling me that I should move money to another one of their accounts to earn more money.
    I have been with first direct for around ten years now an I would not go anywhere else for my banking requirements.

    First Direct are by no means the worst internet bank but they seem to have stagnated and are not trying very hard.I have been with them for five years and apart from the useless credit card (I can't seem to successfully order anything with it) I have been mostly satisfied.Recently I went over my overdraft limit due to changing jobs and got hit with £25 unauthorised overdraft arrangement fee, I decided not to challenge it because I did go over by £2000 so thought it fair enough.     I would recommend FD to all. We have been with them for 3 years, and when a problem does occur, this is always dealt with quickly and by someone who appears to care! The telephone customer service is without a doubt its differentiator, and I have yet to find a premier service that is better.

    Been with them 7 years without a problem until recently. I have just moved house and being self employed took some time off to work on the new house. I then received a letter pointing out that no payments had been made to my current account for just over a month and asking if I could contact them to review the situation.     Excellent. I am absolutely delighted with First Direct online banking. I can look up everything I need to, keep an eye on my balances, transfer between accounts and pay bills. What more could you ask?

    I too have banked with First Direct for years (more than I can remember). They provide a great personal service and if anything does go wrong (so rare it's like hens' teeth), they sort it without bother.

    They keep the internet banking site up to date and listen to their cusomers suggestions and comments.

    I would not bank anywhere else. So, HSBC - keep First Direct separate and the best banking service available.
