I had my passport photos took at the Merry Hill store a few weeks ago. The store has moved from a shop to a rather inadequate kiosk inside Eat Central. The girl who took the photos, though pleasant, was extremely rushed as they were very busy. I've just taken my passport form and photos to the Post Office to use their check and send service. My photos were rejected immediately - apparently my fringe covered one of my eyebrows and there was a shadow over the photograph. The Post office... (read more)

We use the Beverley outlet quite often to update great grandma with photos. We can never remember the sequence to go through to print our requirements and always find that the staff are there willing to help without making us feel like dinosaurs, for not knowing the technology. They are a real pleasure to deal with and always on the ball. “Can't get to the frames.”

I went to purchase a bulk amount of frames, and print off pictures accordingly, but one member of staff working on her own I decided to go back when there was two. No joy as there is always one now. they've also decided to treat the frames like cigarettes, and put them behind the counter and cut the choice down by half. Trouble is the counter is that busy you can't see the frames, so I just walked out with my £300 budget. (read more)

I had photos taken of my child for her new passport, I questioned them at the time as her hair slightly covered her face and she had a slight smile. The assistant assured me that she has vast experience and they would be fine. Needless to say the post office said they were not up to standard. I returned to the Merry Hill branch to have them retaken - which they agreed to do. It's interesting trying to figure out which are fake reviews - both complimentary and uncomplimentary - some people earn a living from writing them you know!!! Anyway here is my review, quite genuine - i gave max Spielmann's online service a go because they will not crop your photos unless you want them to - this means you get photos which are enlargements with white borders but you can cut these off(I mean I have a fancy Fellowes cutter). Recently used the Ilkeston branch to have some xmas pics done of my baby and toddler for Xmas cards and gifts to family. Very impressed with how helpful the staff were and how accommodating they were to my wishes and ideas. Beautiful pics and lovely prints. In a photo shoot you will usually get a few really really special pics that you won't be able to stop looking at. Have been into the newcastle upon tyne store at greys monument today. The service which i recieved from an assistant called Liz was second to none. Nothing was to much trouble and she was extremley busy, she help every customer that was in store and apologised to every customer for their wait. Took a roll of 35mm film to Max Spielman in Bridlington recently. They lost my film. Then found it. Took another 2 weeks to deliver back to their shop in Bridlington. Paid nine pounds for standard prints and cd. Prints were sketchily developed, marked in places, and my negatives were not present. On top of that the cd jpegs are of very small, unusable size, between 300 and 450 kilobytes instead of the 4-6 megabytes I was expecting. Must take extreme practise to get it THIS wrong I... We had a fairly expensive trip to Iceland, and were impatient to get the photographs back as soon as possible. Got to their branch in Leeds centre, 10 films in total, mostly 24x36 and one roll film, asking for developing, prints and scans on CD. The negatives came back badly scratched, covered in fingerprints, splatters of something like oil or paper glue. Worse still, they managed to develop Kodak Ektar in such a way that the support is very dark and all colours are ruined. They could not... (read more)

I visited this shop with my husband and 2 year old son to get passport pictures. The lady who had approached us was very helpful and friendly. after our pictures printed out the same lady kindly measured them and cut them. I visited the maxspeilmann in barrow not long ago. Iv never had better service as i got from here the two shop assistants (shirley and paul) were exellent the atmosphier in the shop was fantastic, made my day to see how two people can enjoy a days work as much as they seemed to. I was looking to get a couple of my photos enlarged to 12x8 and thought that 'Max Spielmann is the UK's most experienced photo lab specialists' was a good enough statement to get me in there. Obviously the grammar wasn't a consideration. The guy behind the counter looked a little like I had interrupted his busy schedule of 'staring into the middle distance' and wasn't overly helpful. I have had expensive 'professional' photos taken at studios and never had such good results as from Max Spielman in Hillsborough, Sheffield. The manager there, Chiara, is absolutely lovely and really engaging. I have two toddlers and she has got brilliant photos of them both. I am so amazed by how cheaply they do these packages and have always been really happy with the service. I went to luton branch to have my family portrait photos taken the salesman who treated me very badly he rushed very single photo taken i was not happy the way he handled things. He told me to come back to collect my photos I went back 3 times in total in the end I got so fed I had taken my 3 children with me my baby crying a lot was hungry the sales man steven said photos not ready. My wife sent some pics to be printed online three weeks before Christmas. She got her confirmation of order email with the quantity & sizes she wanted + cost though straight away. Her account was also charged straight away. I was very suprised at Max Spielman's policy that a minimum of 6 photo's had to be purchased when I only required 2 and that I was told it was Max Spielman policy that I had to purchase a CD for £1 when I did not even require one. £10.99 seems excessive when I only needed 2 photo's The assistant (Kelly) was very abrupt in her manner when serving both myself and other people in the shop especially a chinese gentleman who seemed perplexed by her lack of explanation that she could not do... I have exaxactly the same thing happen to me in thr Oswestry branch today, November 26. I asked for help from the male assistant who was very abrupt , rude & patronising throughout. In the end I walked out & went to Boots where the assistant was both helpful & polite. Whatever happened to customer service? I wont be shopping at Max Spielman again !

I used the passport booth in Tesco to get pics for passport renewal but they were failed when I sent them in. Not to worry I thought, I would try again but this time a booth in ASDA. I got some passport photographs for my son, they have been rejected. In order to make my holiday did not have time to go back into town and pay for parking and get more. Used Tesco photo booth instead. No problems. Staff don't know what they are doing and actually had taken a few times to even get what I got at Max Speilman. Can't remember the exact cost now at MS or the Tesco booth but the Tesco booth was much better. Forget the MS guarantee use the Tesco booth. It will save you a lot of time. (read more)

My husband and son needed their passport photographs taking, we considered a booth since they are cheaper but decided to use the service at the shop. I was very satisfied with the service and speed. Went with my daughter lilly for a portrait shoot and it was rushed to say the least. The manager was not so helpful,she was working on her own and wanted to serve other customers making me feel very unwanted and just an inconvienience to her.
The end results were 1 good shot and a load of rubbish! I asked if she could take a few more and she told me it she had to do figures for her boss so could not spare any more time.

I have been using Max Spielman for quick tests of old film cameras, by having a film developed and scanned to CD. The quality has now deteriorated to a level that can only be described as total cr@p. The shop staff do not take care of the film (it is allowed to drag on the floor); the development is often done with stale chemicals; light leaks across the film are common; scanning is very low resolution (nominally about 1.5megapixels); the image/file compression smears all details; the scan... 'light leaks across the film' would surely occur if the film was opened, which they don't do in max spielmann. maybe accidents occur but i've been using them for years for 35mm film developing and much more and never had a problem.

Got some pictures taken off my little girl yesterday at the local Max Spielman branch in Birkenhead and was delighted at the service, price and results. I ended up buying a 30x20 poster of the shot and they printed it on some new high speed high quality printer while I waited, it only took 5 minutes and looks brilliant!
I will be back next week to Max for a frame for it as the whole family love the poster and it will take pride of place in our living room.

Aggressive selling techniques, if i want something ill ask for it i don't need to be bombarded with questions & suggestions. 5 Year ago their 6x4 instant prints were 19p each now they're 38p each. Much cheaper alternatives available elsewhere. Their Digital Camera's weren't up to much poor brand names Pratika, Vivitar, GE, Rolliei
Wouldn't send my worst enemy to one of their shops.

I recently went in to my local Max Spielmann store in Carcroft, which is situated within an Asda. On first glance you would imagine it to be an asda photo kiosk. I usually use Asda's printing facilities however the young chap within the store asked if i needed any help i was about to say no and leave but i saw the prices and saw the quality of service and the prints i will always remain loyal to Max from now on... i even purchased a loyalty card that gurantees 10% off for a whole... Just got a canvas print from Birkenhead Max Spielman shop and was amazed at the quality and speed that they provided. I had been to Tesco but they could not promise it back in time for Xmas, Spielman use there own production apparently and are taking orders up to 16th December. The staff were very helpful, they explained that one photo I had would not be suitable as my little boys head was to close to the edge and would be wrapped around the frame. They agreed to reprint it, but the second time it had a white line down the poster. They agreed to print it again... and I am still waiting for them to call me to say that it is done.

We took 20 video tapes to be made into DVD's into our local Max Speilman (rugby) in November 2007 which were supposed to be a Christmas/50th Birthday present for my Dad. We waited approx. 3 months and no response, after much chasing on our part they came to the conclusion that they were lost. Needless to say they are all absolutely irreplaceable and a huge part of our family history (spanning 16 years) has been lost forever.

Never use a shop like Max Spielman or Jessops who send your video tapes away to be processed. Orion do everything in store which means there is no chance of your tapes being lost. Try oriondvd.co.uk next time.

Before purchasing the product I inquired of their refund/exchange policy in which the accociate replied "Let me just ask someone else, I'm not sure". Got some photographs back this morning. Some prints have lines down, but the general quality is poor. Under magnification, there is very coarse grain, which is not the fault of the film (Kodak) or the excellent Fuji camera, which has always given top class results before. I wonder if they're printed using some sort of computer printer instead of whatever optical process was formerly used. Cost for 36 exposure film was £6.79, which seems a bit stiff. I agree, i find the Max Spielman site one of the most easy to use and the uploading of images is much faster than photo box who I used to use. Delivery is also fast so I give them 10/10 and I don't often give anyone that score!
