Nearly 6 years old and still going strong. Yes, there's smaller, faster, cheaper laptops out there that will out perform it now, but none I've seen that come close to its 1600x1200 screen. It will be a sad day when this Dell Inspiron dies. I guess the people who have had problems were unlucky, or perhaps the original batch was well built and subsequent corner cutting has impacted the model. Or I have one that was assembled on a good day :-)

Poorly designed. Overheated and failed. Took class action lawsuit to get it fixed. Was quite unhappy with the Dell service, I felt it was unresponsive and slow. I got passed form department to department. Therefore I do not recommend the Dell Inspiron 5150 Laptop.

Motherboard died while on a business trip. Paid ' 400+ for a new motherboard. Just back from another trip and Hard disk died while away. Luckily this time it died after I had just completed my jobs. Must now try and salvage the data from the HD. Overall this is one extremely disappointing Laptop. Just bought a new Sony Vaio 17" and hopefully it will give better service than the Dell.

I think the battery life on the Dell Inspiron 5150 is very low, maybe 45 minutes at best. Worked well during warranty period, then the screen failed.
This is a boat anchor at best, try carrying one of these through the airport for a multiple leg trip and you will get a workout. But it is 5 years old and still working with XP.

I have used it 3/5 days a week for 5 years. It's fairly powerful and fast thanks to the Pentium processor. Unfortunately the LCD diplay failed during the 2nd week, and the mother board failed after 2 years. In the 4th year the sound is gone completely and because it is out of warranty it's not worth fixing. Still running XP and hopying to use it for another 1 or 2 years. Still good for basic use, apart form sound.

Dell = don't bother in my opinion. Although their customer service was good, after two replacement Laptops with Keyboard and hard drive failure. Third unit the keyboard started to fall to bits so purchased a second hand keyboard to repair only for the hard drive to fail before fitting new keyboard. Ditched Dell Laptops from now on and switched to similar priced HP Laptop and no problems so far in 18 months and Keyboard seem better made and still feels like new 18 months in.

I've used this laptop daily now, for at least 5-6 hours a day, often running it for 12+ hours at a time for the last 5 years. Nothing's broken on it, and the only problem I've had is running out of disk space. I've upgraded the CDRW/DVD-ROM to a dual layer DVD-RW, I've just placed an order with Dell to upgrade my RAM from 1GB to 2GB, and will shortly buy a faster, larger hard drive. It should then see me for another 3-4 years, accidents permitting

I have the 1600x1200 UXGA screen which takes a ...

I've just got a $700 laptop that is better in every respect, half weight, ten times the battery life, quiet, never gets hot, and runs faster. 5150 is not recommended by me.

This is the worst laptop i have ever used. There must be something wrong with the battery or the CPU fan. It always gets extremely hot and shut down by itself after hours of continuous usage.
Even when you view the web page, it gives a loud noise and then gets hotter and hotter and then crash. It shut down 10 times when i do a c++ build using vs.2005.

Dell Inspiron 5150: I can't let this rubbish get away with a 10/10 review. I'm a freelance IT consultant and I think this laptop is really shoddy, especially the build quality. The annoying thing is the feet won't stay on the bottom, so now I've lost one and it won't sit level whilst I type. I'm on my 2nd DVD burner which is now developing the same fault my first one had. It gradually starts failing to recognise media, CD's first then DVD-R's, then everything.

Buy a Tosh instead or a more ex ...

The Dell Inspiron 5150 is a well made Laptop by a top manufacturer. Four hours battery usage possible. Excellant performance. Well built. Dell technology always up to date. Though it's slightly heavier than average.
