I bought this laptop a 1.42GHz ibook G4 to take to Iraq for entertainment during an Army tour in 2006. i had been advised that the build quality was superb and the motion sensors would protect the hard drive. Well, after months of being banged around in my Bergan, thrown about in helicopters and operating in the dusty muck of Iraq sand I can say that this laptop is the most rugged and reliable laptop I have ever owned. ive still got my ibook G4 and have had it since 2004.
Touch wood its all still in tip top condition.
Ive recently replaced the battery as the original one was lasting 40 mins max. the new one lasts 5 hours!
I do have an MBP as well however i couldnt bring myself to discard the ibook.
It still works, its had its upgrades and i still love it.
Its dead handy having it to do some things for me whilst im working on the MBP or my quicksilver.!
I never want to get rid of the little ibook ever!

I have a dilemma. G4 laptop HD has crashed (I had no back up... never learned how to use my la cie... aaagh but £170 later and a wonderful bunch of guys in a remac company have saved the data...phew). Now I need to decide whether to renew HD or buy new macbook. Money is an issue, so fixing is appealing and I really liked that mac. I'm a bit concerned that other bits may start to go. After nearly four fabulous years with my Apple Ibook G4 Laptop, I am finally ready to let go of it. However, the ironic thing is that I don't NEED a new computer, I've just come to the blatant realization that it is time for a new one since I use it so often.

Sound and picture quality.
Has enough memory for using as a work computer.
The Ibook G4 is a good laptop and you get what you pay for (it's worth the money).
After a while it can get boring and you may want to update to a newer version.
Therefore I well recommend the Apple iBook G4 Laptop.

I got this iBook 2nd hand from CEX Exchange. I did a lot of research on Apple on the CEX web site before I bought the laptop. I got the laptop in July 08. It is practically brand new and only cost £350! Earlier this year I had got an Advent laptop in a sale and it had tons of features of it and was a Vista Premium. Put Vista and Norton together and what do you get? UPDATES! Everytime I switched on the laptop Norton took over like a demon. I could not go on the internet or use the computer... (read more)

Macs hit a homerun with this computer Im using it in 2008 (with 1gb ram and 160gb hd) and its still way better than any dell on the market

Really easy to use, slick neat and fast, infact the only bad point I have to make from my experience is the Apple iBook G4's keyboard comes out too easily in my opinion. But still overall an excellent creation and well recommended by me. (read more)

Graphics card attached to motherboard broke after 2.5yrs. Will cost £400+ pounds to repair.
Therefore for me its not reliable and I would recommend to not buy one!

I got an Apple iBook G4 12 inch not too long ago, for around $500. It surpassed any other laptop I have used. The case itself makes you want to stare at it for hours, and feels strong, and I know I can take it places without it breaking. The 40gb HDD doesn't quite cut it, however, because with all the Apps and Mac OS X it leaves you with about 14gb. I upgraded it to 768mb RAM, and is still fast, yet reliable. It will almost never crash unlike others, and won't get viruses/spyware/etc either!... (read more)

Bought the Apple iBook G4 since our IT department went and said, if changing make it Mac. Unsure, but hey, its all nearly been good. No more worries on reliability problems. Has one or two things that I have not been able to do like DVD shrink and have not found the same type of thing. This is minor problem. No one trying to steal stuff from your computer. This Apple iBook G4 has been my main portable machine for over a year, and it has been very reliable. Easy to use too. I put extra ram in which helps. I run some pretty heavy duty applications, and it can be a bit slow on these, but not unusable. Also very stable ( i.e it does not crash) I do look after it though. (read more)

Overall this Apple iBook G4 is a great notebook for the cost. The 12in iBook has outperformed some of the other portables that I have owned. My iBook came packaged w/ 40GB hard drive (which was eaten up by the apps) 24GB available upon initial boot up, 1.33mhz processor, 512k memory and standard Airport Wireless and Bluetooth capabilities. This notebook is small but strong. Not recommended for extreme gaming, but that's what desktop pc's are for right?

Thanks for your comments. I like lightweight, small laptops. I've seen others in public places use Apple G4 laptop and they say they have no problem. Thinking of buying one. I hear G5 is coming soon.

The Apple iBook G4 is a great laptop computer, but what it needs is a faster processor! You need more than a 40GB hard drive, or the whole thing clogs up. You also need AT LEAST 1GB of RAM and a whole lot more.
In my opinion the screen is great, and for $1600 you need more than a 32MB video card. That's why I would strongly recommend a PowerBook. Airport is great.

I bought my Apple iBook G4 laptop in April 2005, and I adore it. I was quite wary of buying an Apple (admittedly my main motivation was its visual appeal compared to other laptops on the market) having heard that it can take some people a while to adjust to the Apple system. I found no such problems and easily adapted. The "sleep" function is so useful, which means it can be carried around with having to be turned off (good for university students) like Windows does. I got my Apple iBook G4 almost a year ago, and it has been nothing but bliss to use. It has excellent support, fantastic performance, and is easy as pie to use. Windows users need around 2 - 3 days to familiarize themselves with the new controls.
The only thing I can say is: Why didn't they make all computers like this?!?!
I recently had my G4's RAM and HD upgraded to 1.2 GHZ and 100Gb.
LOVE IT!

Wheeww!! I'm not a techie person, but I must admit when I got an Apple iBook G4, can't stop looking at it. It defines me. with its modern design I can always bring it whenever I go. Unlike other laptops, ibook looks sexy, whether I'm in my business suit or just my plain blahh days. ok, where to start, the Apple iBook G4 price is apsolutly fantastic, the cheapest you can get is £700!($999). Battery can last up for 6 hours (i would say i was about 7 if you do not use the cd drive) ALL my friends love my butiful iBook and think it is a masterpiece!!!!!!! First, there's the hardware of the Apple iBook G4. Apple hardware isn't just beautiful (though this infuriates Windoze users with their nasty black / beige boxes), it is incredibly well made. Pick up any Apple laptop and compare it to any pc laptop and you will see what I mean. Look at the ipod, the G5, the new imac, the isight, airport express units, the flat screens. No comparison.
There are NO compatibility issues. I would hardly use macs if I couldn't use the files on my windoze machine...
