“I got my Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom from Amazon for £178...”

    ★★★★★

    written by tc1 on 18/11/2005

I got my Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom from Amazon for £178 including postage.
This was including a bag [not up to much but better than nothing] a remote control, a battry charger, lens cap [some don't supply this believe it or not] a 16 meg card [silver camera , black gets 32meg for some reason]. A good sturdy strap, all cables for connection to tv or computer manual ,Olympus Comedia Master for down/uploading your pictures and editing them and video seven for editing your videos.
All I have had to buy is a larger card [512mb as I take a lot of video footage], and a more sturdy bag that would also fit extras [bag supplied just fits camera].
I also bought an £8 single XP card reader as I don't really like connecting the camera up to the computer, this card reader actually comes in handy for carrying the 512mb card when the 32mb card is installed in the camera ,and comes in handy for quick transfer of files also.
The camera itself is brilliant 10x zoom on hq or normal settings and 13x on lower quality
Theres also a 4x digital zoom although I don't use that [have had no need to].
Macro mode and super macro mode are both useful if you're into taking pictures up close [spiders ,flowers ]
Image quality is brilliant with great colour and detail, there are options to adjust most settings if you want to.
There are 2 seperate flashes for diffrent conditions and there's a hot shoe if you want more.
There's an easy to follow layout makes things easy for beginners,
4.3mp is ample for most and I get very good A4 size prints [in fact I'm finding that with the amount of pictures I'm taking I'm having to reduce file size so more than the 4.3mp would be a waste.
Video quality is very good and you have sound also, you can't zoom in or out while videoing unless you disable sound though.
Another thing I like is the ability to put a little sound track after each picture saying were and when. If you're in the market for a 10x zoom camera this has to be on your list.
Ok for the disadvantage of the c770uz = no image stabilisation ,but I can honestly say that up to now no more than 2% of my pictures have been spoilt becuse of camera shake, I have not used a tripod as yet so that amount could drop.

“The Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom is an excellent camera...”

The Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom is an excellent camera for people of all skill levels. It provides massive zoom in such a compact camera and has add on lenses to increase zoom to 17x optical. I chose this camera because of the features it had and for the simplcity in which it can be used if needed. The massive zoom is something that will appeal to a lot of people. You would miss so many good shots with 3 or 4x optical zoom. It is an all round great camera which performs well in all areas.

The Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom has outstanding picture quality
Simple to use (idiot proof) so that suits me!
I paid £280.00 from st.thomas in the carribean for the silver version, with free case. I paid only $90 / £52.00 for 264 meg card as a extra total price £332.00.
That beats English price best price found £400 for camera and £90 for 264 meg card Total £490 a saving of £158.00 not bad a saving!
So if your planning on going to the carribean wait till you get there their a lot cheaper.

“Olympus Camedia C770 UZ. This is not the camera I was...”

    ★★★★★

    written by Dave017 on 04/08/2004

Olympus Camedia C770 UZ. This is not the camera I was going to buy when I went out, the camera I was going to get was the Olympus C765.UZ but the camera was not available as it had only just been launched. After shopping around trying to get a good price from different stores and getting offered the more expensive C770 as no one had the C765 for another 4 to 6 weeks, I though would check the spec out for both cameras. I wanted the 10X optical zoom and 4 million pixels and both cameras have so how could I justify the extra cost, ( At the time the best price was, C765 £339, C770 £400 ),
well this is how I ended up with the C770.

2.1 shots per second for up to 2 frames in HQ High Speed Mode: ......C765.
2.1 shots per second for up to 5 frames in HQ High Speed Mode: ......C770.
1.6 shots per second for up to 24 frames in HQ Normal Speed: .........C770.
(This is better for me as I will use the camera for motor sport)
The C770 comes with a XD 128 meg memory card, the C765 has only a XD 16 meg card, and as you can read in the C765 reviews every one buys a bigger card as 16 meg is not much good, so I have saved money there.

    128 Meg card = 2,288 x 1,712 HQ: 130 Shots.
    16 Meg card = 2,288 x 1,712 HQ: 16 Shots.

The C770 also has Mpeg 4 Movie capture.

With a 128 MB XD-picture Card this is: 136 sec. at 15 fps in Motion JEPG with a resolution of
    640 x 480 pixels ........................C765.

    With a 128MB XD-Picture Card this is: 386 sec. at 30FPS in MPEG4 with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels ..................................C770.
(The picture is excellent, better than my Video camera, but needs a external mike as the zoom motor sound like it's a diesel and not electric when zooming in and out).

There some other differences C765 is Silver, C770 is Black in colour.
The C770 goes to 14x Optical zoom (with a resolution of 1600 x 1200). Better again.
The C770 has a remote controller (Only in some standard packages so check the side of the box)

So more zoom, bigger XD card, better video, remote control, and did not want to wait 4/6 weeks for the C765 to turn up and then spend £55`ish on a 128 meg card.
Just like the C765, the pictures it takes are very good for a digital camera, and the diopter adjustment on the viewfinder is very handy if you have poor eyesight like me.
