I wrote to KLM asking if my reservation have been set in stone, to double check the company Opodo did their booking correctly. Delta have been fantastic in confirming everything, quick and efficient. However, KLM were very rude and told me, when it is booked through a 3rd party, they will not take the time to double check if they reservation has been successfully made, only after when it's expired, which defeats the purpose. KLM really has no customer service, let me explain. You have to go through hard to understand page after page to find a form to fill out (if you have a flying blue customer number), then they replay with a template "do not reply" e-mail." Then there is no way to go back on line and continue a thread on your complaint and have to redo it each time. Does this sound like a company that cares? Long haul flight. Kuala Lumpur - Amsterdam - London (return trip). {Travel time 15h 25m) I must say, after reading all the had reviews I was so nervous about flying KLM. But it totally exceeded my expectations. First of all, the ticket prices were still very much affordable compared to other airlines as I booked the flight about a week before my travel date. My husband and i travelled recently with KLM from leeds bradford to amsterdam and onwards to dubai. Due to leeds bradford being fogbound we had 3 hour delay. Staff at check in and departure area were very attentive, polite and tried to please everyone in what was a stressful time for all. they arranged food vouchers, hotel accomodation for anyone who had missed connecting flights etc. we were eventually boarded on a flight to amsterdam and onards to munich and then to dubai by Lufthansa.... Whenever I have travelled to the Far East, I have flown British Airways or Air Malaysia but thought that I would try KLM for a change. Each of the four flights, ABZ-AMS,AMS-KUL,KUL-AMS and AMS-ABZ took off late and landed late. In addition, my luggage did not arrive in KUL with me and neither did it arrive on my return to Aberdeen. Good points: Were told by Birmingham Interational a day before departure that the flights were cancelled. Very happy not to have found out on the day of departure as we were leaving at 9.15am. Saved us a lot of stress. Not sure if this was thanks to KLM but whoever bothered to inform us made expedia and KLM look good. I have had three bad experiences with KLM but what stands out most was the rude staff at heathrow who refused to check my wife in even though they had tagged her hand luggage and decided that her luggage was a kilo over 23kilos and descided that if they gave her time to sort out her luggage she wont make the flight.They then decided that for them to put her on an alternative flight sh should pay for a new ticket again through no fault of hers. My wife and I have flown well over a dozen times with KLM in the past year or so. Both Economy and Business. Imust say that at all times we have found staff polite, helpful and pleasant. We have never experienced rudenss. OK some meals were not the best but at least they are a lot better that some we have had with other airlines. Iam a Flying Blue elite member, or better: Lying blue! This airline is in fact a low budget airline. Food is terrible, expect no service of cabin crew...high noses instead, be aware of the food we had yoghurt which was expired, quality of the food is not recommendable at all. I flew with KLM on 2 occassions back in 2007 from Amsterdam to Lima return business class and I loved it. The service, the staff and the comfort of the seats were great, I couldn't fault them. I look forward to flying with them again in the future (read more)

21 & 28 Aug. Jkt-KL-AMS Extremely unsatisfied with the cabin crews. Staff were not accommodating to my needs, whereas other Dutch passengers were served first-hand, imagine that !!! Aug 2012 - I booked what i thgt was reasonable tickets from JFK to Johanesburg for 1300$ for a 3 week trip. I had to cut short my trip because of an emergency back home and when i tried to change my ticket I was told that the change penalty was $3300. Can you imagine? My husband and son flew from Toronto to Amsterdam this past week, and due to problems KLM was having with their catering suppliers, the standard on-board meals weren't available. Instead, sandwiches (made with butter) and pizza (made with cheese) were proferred. My son has a serious milk allergy and could eat neither of these offerings. Maybe it's because I have a fondness for Europe..but I liked KLM. I thought they were charming, in a humble and non-overexagerant kind of way. Quick and easy booking, will arrange many visas for you over the phone eg Australia. Pre flight seat booking days before and online check in 24 hours before. Many varied diets available. Facilities in Economy class match many of those found in Business class on other airlines...trusted and well loved airline. (read more)

Dissappointed in this airline. Tickets are expensive and they do not allow you to change the day of flight. My husband and I bought tickets to East Africa for about £1000 each!! soon after booking we realised we had got the return ticket wrong. That must be Delta who told you that since they handle customer service for KLM in US, and i can tell they the worst. If you can call KLM directly at Amsterdam then they will work on the issue. I was able work out the deal with Delta supervisor from 550 to 350 fees to change nonexchangeable ticket for KLM flight.

Booked with KLM from Bristol to Cape Town via Amsterdam. Flew in to Amsterdam and transfered to Cape Town flight with the other passengers with my boarding pass. I was not allowed to embark for bizarre reasons that changed every time I asked for the reason in writing. Reasons given were: KLM delayed the Bristol flight so unbooked me from the Cape Town one! Please see my review on Kenya Airways..... but the main point of this post is that if you book a flight to an African destination with KLM, you'd be more than absolutely furious if you ended up on Kenya Airways (which is more than likely what will happen as KLM code share with Kenya Airway - the most terrible airline in the world). I hang around in the airport until it was time for boarding and proceed to the gate on the boarding ticket. I hear many announcements about changes to gates but nothing about my flight or to basel. I go to the gate counter and they look at my ticket and tell me that this is the wrong flight and that my flight is straight after theirs and so I should wait. I wait 10min only for one of them to approach me and tell me that this was the wrong gate and that I am suppose to be boarding from the gate next door. I go to that gate only to find that it was too late. The ironic this was I randomely went to this gate earlier to get them to track my checked in bag to see that it has been moving from country to country with me, only to be sent away as they were busy presumably trying to locate me via the intercom (I never heard my name called). At this point I am exhausted and distressed and start to cry. They get defensive and argue with me that it is my fault. They tell me to go to the service desk and that there is a flight 1hr.30min later. I walk for 15 min to the service desk only to be met with a very rude service desk lady who everytime I opened my mouth to explain to her my dilemma, she would yell at me and tell me that it was not her problem and non of what I am saying matters. To cut a long story sort they wanted me to pay for the ticket change even though it was not my fault. I ask to talk to the supervisor and they tell to go to departures. This meant I had to get out through customs and run around in circles to figure out where I am and where I need to go. After walking for another half an hour and asking a number of people for directions, I find the ticketing office who put me on a late flight out of amsterdam. So now I am sitting in the airport stuck, tired and very much out of pocket as I buy luch and use the interent trying to pass on the time.

I wonder when I read all the remarks and reviews on KLM. I'm a seasoned traveller, and I find that KLM is a reliable airline. Maybe ground staff at Schiphol could be a bit friendlier, but on board, the staff are always helpful. A delay on the ground anywhere in the world is a bummer, also losing your bags. But it's not always the fault of the airline. Think of the ground crew, who help logistically, and can easily misplace bags. It's then not the airlines fault, but ground services of the... When I travel to Asia (quite a lot) my first preference is always KLM / Air France. In general, I have always had a great experience. The online booking system is easy and no complaints there. On board, staff are friendly and helpful and again, no problems there. My only complaint would be the "Flying Blue" program. We had booked for a family visit to Tehran (Iran) for Christmas/New Year. We purchased 3 economy class tickets with KLM which came to £2,117. Th flight from AMS to MEX was a terrible experience with very loud air conditioning that left it impossible for my fiance or I to sleep, which on an 11 hour flight is a terrible thing indeed. The food was barely edible and my fiance was so ill after the flight that she and I both wish we did not eat it. The seats were old and the foam cushioning needed replacing. KLM is, hands down, THE worst airline I have ever travelled on. On a recent trip to Prague from Amsterdam, just over a 1hr flight they managed to lose every single passengers piece of luggage. Not one piece made it to the final destination, which is really quite some achievement! What's more, they had absolutely no idea where it was and still don't. If your expecting customer service you will get none.If you order a child meal you wont get it not that you will be able to eat the normal food. Completely agree. A recent bad experience left me appalled at the treatment I received from the ground staff (customer service dept in particular). Couldn't-care-less-attitude, she actually shrugged her shoulders at me and said they didn't have to do anything. Refused to get her supervisor and refused to give me her name. I was speechless! KLM had moved me to a later flight as they had overbooked the flight I was booked on. This meant I missed my connection and ended up with a 14 hour delay to get the next connection. Terrible airline - never again!!

I'm sorry, but the rules are the rules. Check the weight of your luggage before you get on, because they charge if you go over. Hand luggage also has weight restrictions. That experience was of your own making i'm afraid. You're not above the rules, did you think they should just let you off? If they let 200 passengers off for the same incident, that's 1000 pounds added to the plane.

However I think you can draw your conclusions as to what happened by reading the following tips: When booking a flight with KLM - DO NOT assume that your flight will actually leave and that you will be able to get to your destination. I used the toilet in plane and while I was in cabin staff started servicing with trays. I tried to return my seat but the way back was blocked by the tray. I notified the service staff and kindly asked to move tray a bit back in order to let me use the empty seat just next to me to pass forward. We booked two tickets from KLM. One had to be refunded. For the person who traveled had a good flight to USA. But while returning back, they did not serve any drinks when asked for. Even after booking a non-veg meal, all meals served were veg and were giving reasons as the non-veg was over. What kind of service is this? I was traveling via KLM from Leeds (UK) to India via Amsterdam as usual. The only reason I choose KLM is because they are the only flight flying to India from Leeds and I really don't want to choose the London or Manchester airports to fly from since it involves an extra journey time by trains and thus are inconvenient, even though they probably have better airlines departing from those airports.KLM for the price it charges is a rubbish airlines compared to the competition. Travelled from Manchester to Lusaka on KLM - staff at airoport in manchester have an attitude problem. Wasnt over my luggage limit at all so didnt have to pay extra. I am copying the complaint I tried (and failed, b/c their complaint web page doesn't work) to send the company here. The gist of my complaint is that KLM has wasted an enormous amount of my time sending me on various wild goose chases (much worse than the original bumping due to an overbooked flight).

Airlines all have their good and bad days and most can deliver an acceptable experience or better when all goes well. However, any experienced traveler knows that things do not always go as planned. How airlines respond to common challenges such as weather and mechanical difficulties is what really counts, because, in the end, it's making it to your intended destination as close to the planned time as possible that matters most.
I have flown well in excess of two million miles in my life...
