Good Points: 20 glorious tracks from JB's in Dudley. An pre-gig interview with Jonn, Alex & Dan. Biography on the disc and a glimpses of the soundcheck.
Bad Points: Not the whole original line-up. That's about it for bad points really!
General comments: Ned's Atomic Dustbin - Shoot The Neds! - Shot back in June 2002 at JB's in Dudley, the first venue Ned's ever played at, this DVD captures an awesome gig that fans will treasure forever. The band is not the original line up, with Mat Cheslin and Rat being unfortunetly replaced by ex-Groundswell members Andy King and Martin Warlow. Their performance was second to none, even with Martin's daunting task of filling Rat's rather talented boots.
The footage was shot in widescreen and the camera work is of a very high standard. The special features included a 30+ min in depth interview with the original band members Jonn Penney (vocals), Alex Griffin (bass/vocals) and Dan Warton (drums). Jonn does go on to explain the meaning of the songs on the show's set list, which is a nice little addition. There is also footage from the afternoon soundcheck and a band biography.
They play a twenty track set that covers all the crowd's favourites. The track listing is as follows:
1. Not Sleeping Around
2. Happy
3. Cut Up
4. Selfish
5. Walking Through Syrup
6. Capital Letters
7. Stuck
8. Trust
9. Nothing Like
10. Intact
11. Until You Find Out
12. Bite
13. Scrawl
14. Kill Your Television
15. Song Eleven Could Take Forever
16. Aim
17. Plug Me In
18. Grey Cell Green
19. Terminally Groovie
20. Titch
All in all this was a blinder of a show that I was really glad to have been at and now be able to own. The atmosphere was electric, which really comes through on the DVD. The sound quality is also truly superb. Hats off to the makers of the DVD, it is a fantastic release.
