The Sofia Beach Apartments are at the southern end of Kavos, thankfully offset from the bars and nightlife. The apartments are fairly basic but they are clean and well kept. The setting of the apartments and the attached Taverna is lovely, set amongst lemon trees, a small colourful garden and a well tended pool area. The pool area opens straight onto the beach which is only about 30 yards wide leading down to the sea. The view from the apartments across to the Greek mainland is very pleasant. The owner Vangelis and his wife Maria are very hospitable and easy to get on with. The food at the attached Likorgos Taverna is excellent,good value, home cooked greek food, with plenty of English options for those who are less adventurous.
Kavos town itself is awful, ruined by young tourists who simply want to drink, eat fry up's, vomit, and well...you can guess the rest. The Sofia Beach Apartments provide a quiet, tranquil, oasis of calm slightly away from the mayhem. Had I have been staying at any other location within Kavos I may well have come home early.
I would recommend the Sofia Beach Apartments to couples and more mature guests who appreciate a pleasant enviroment, a great view, a nice pool area, good quality greek food and who are prepared to respect the peace and tranquility created by the owners.
I would not recommend this to young people who are looking to take part n the nightlife and drinking culture. The owners are easy going and very friendly but they expect guests to respect this environment and other guests.
In summary - Kavos town itself is awful - totally invaded by the British/German youth party culture. The surrounding countryside in Corfu is beautiful and the Sofia Beach Apartments are the perfect place for discerning, respectful travellers to get away from the mayhem of Kavos with a good value price tag attached.
One last thing - in general the Kavos beach is not very pleasant, as it is treated like a rubbish tip and play area by drunken revellers. HOWEVER - the beach area immediately adjacent to the Sofia Beach apartments is well protected and attended to by the owners making it a clean and very pleasant to sunbathe and watch the greek fishing boats bobbing up and down in the Ionian sea.

We really enjoyed our holiday despite the oafs mentioned above. The resort itself is geared up for youngsters, rather than couples and families. The best place to eat by a long stretch is Pavlos Taverna, although the taverna on site (Likourgos) is lovely, it has good food and a fantastic view.

Our room seemed to be in the only block that had not been done up, but was nice enough - we even had a fireplace and chimney in the room! Our room covered the whole floor of our block, which was nice, and they put the extra room we had underneath, so we were all close by! I decided to try to cook frozen chips but they took about two hours to cook in the oven! The pool was really clean and with the hotel being right on the beach, was such a great location. If you're by the pool, you have to buy your drinks from the bar (2euros for 1litre), but we only had to pay for the sun loungers (2euros) by the pool once.

Make sure you have a wheelie suitcase, as you have to walk down the road to the hotel! Also, if you go to the little shop you go past to get to the hotel, you'll meet Maria. She'll give you a bottle of "Champagne", which is nice because it's free, but after you've drunk just two bottles of the cheap-cider-tasting stuff, the novelty wears off!

We went to The Britain Restaurant, which served cold, cardboard-looking food (almost opposite Stoned) and the Jolly Chef, which was disgusting! The best restaurant we found was The British International Restaurant (opposite the slingshot and past McDonalds and KFC) - it wasn't brilliant, but was great after the others!

The PR outside Stoned was rude and really abusive, so we never went in. We went to Bonkers every night, where the barman sets the bar on fire, throws straws at you and the DJ DJs from a boat and might try to lift you onto the bar! Crash, Rolling Stone, Rocky's and Snobs were among the other bars we went to.

Overall, a brilliant holiday!

Sofia Beach Apartments are set in a beautiful setting surrounded by lemon trees and the most gorgeous flowers. It has a lovely pool although cold - sometimes that's needed in the heat. The owners are very friendly. Vangelly has lots of bar tricks up his sleeve to keep everyone amused at the bar! Maria's cooking is fantastic too, she beats all the restaurants on the main strip and it's better priced than the others! You seriously don't need to leave the apartments at all everything you need is right there. It's set in a quiet area away from the clubs and bars although they are only a very short walk away if that's what you want. The restaurant is set right on the beach with a lovely view of mainland greece over the water it's one of the most beautiful places I've been! Fantastic! Recommend it to anyone!
