Good Points: + Oblique lyrics - you know what he's saying but he doesn't actually say it - you just feel it - deep down. + Mood indigo - reminiscing, melancholy, resigned - things happen that are not good - but you've got to keep going - there's always hope.
Bad Points: + Eno's tinkering has taken off the rough edges - easy on the ear but at the expense of impact on the soul. + The voice is lost in the mix - sod the instruments - we want to hear what he's got to say.
General comments: Robert Wyatt, Cuckooland - Robert Wyatt has a unique approach for expressing his muse. He creates music that touches parts of our conciousness that others cannot (or care not to). This collection flirts with several influences of the popular musical establishment (the people championing these influnces would not wish to hear themselves described as 'pop'ular no doubt) to the detriment of this talent. Robert Wyatt's music doesn't NEED Eno, Paul Weller or Pink Floyd - he just needs background encouragement (and heaven forfend the finances) to carry on doing what he does.
