“Worst site I have been to, dirty, badly run, poorly...”

Written on: 31/10/2011 by storyman60 (1 review written)

I bought a caravan at this park three years ago. while looking at vans and going through the buying process they could not have been more attentive or helpful but as soon as I had paid my money they ignored every contact I made, broke every promise they made, and treated us like pests. The salesman promised our van would be in place for the easter holiday week so we booked time off work and arrived and the van was not ready and they had no substitute van we could use. The salesman would not… Read Full Review

i have two toddlers and an 11 year old son. We also have friends with children the same age who came with us on our holiday to southerness last may. The park was small and friendly, very clean and surrounding area very scenic. Night time entertainment was great for the toddlers and my older son and friend spent their evenings in the arcade. this is a quieter park and you do need a car, the mobile farm was fab for all ages, the ice cream factory more suited to older children, however these are… Read Full Review

“Parkdean Southerness 30 August 2010 for four nights. ”

Written on: 08/09/2010 by kingstreet (5 reviews written)

Parkdean Southerness 30 August 2010 for four nights.

Booked through the Sun. Upgraded to "Annan" caravan for £120 extra. Total cost of break £162. Caravan on Cumbria View with close proximity to beach and seafront.

Location is 14 miles south of Dumfries on the pretty Solway Coast road, the A710. Weather was excellent for party of four, grandparent, two parents and one eight year old.

Caravan was two years old, fully heated and in good condition. It was surface clean with a little dust behind… Read Full Review

overpriced at 165 pounds approx for 2 nights ( 2 adults and 2 kids)in a crappy caravan, there was no water for about 2 hours, when it did come on it was white and cloudy for about 24 hours, so NOT good value for money.
entertainmant team were great, but even in the cabaret bar theres a cynical ploy to get more money from us, as at the end they say ok kids 1 pound each for the raffle for the toys, then as only 1 wins it, ok kids you can buy the prizes.. yeah yeah greedy monkeys, then...... they… Read Full Review

Written on: 21/06/2009 by xenaspal (1 review written)

we spent a week at southerness holiday park, although the weather wasn't brilliant we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The caravan was very spacious, a little drafty but comfortable. We enjoyed the peacefulness of it all, the walks along the beach, to the lighthouse, doing a bit of rockpooling and just chilling out. You do need a car, there are plenty of places to visit. I think the shop and facillities could open earlier, for people like us who are early risers… Read Full Review

just spent a week at Southerness holiday village we wont forget in a hurry.the wind blew all week, mostly inside our caravan, somtimes convinced the windows were actually open.frozen all week.combine all the play areas together then you have at least enough to entertain 20 kids,4 of them being mine, the nearest one was about a 3 mins walk from our van.
The swimming pool is tiny and has to be booked days in advance for a 45 min session,2 life gaurds.
The kids entertainment was great and full marks… Read Full Review

Totally agree with everything. The road to the beach was awful. It looked like the local rubbish tip. Had to drag my daughter away from a rotting sheeps head on the beach...Camp was okay but not much to do on a wet and windy day..kids were bored.

i totally agree, i spent ages looking for the beach in the brochure pic! the road down to the water was as described a rubbish tip!oh and the soft play was different from the brochure pic, alot smaller :(. the caravan was ok but very basic and that wasnt one of the standard ones!oh and its just aswell my husband smoked as his lighter was the only way to light the cooker!the pool is small but the attendants were friendly.

We visited the park in early Sept and found it very relaxing (if not a little too relaxing) - would have been lost without a TV and found ourselves venturing the 20 mile round trip to Dumfries each day just for something to do.
You need to pay for a pass to get in to entertainment at night, which is great if you like agadoo and cheesey "Abba" type bands with lots of kids dancing.
It is a nice site, and the people are mostly very pleasant also but if you want some action, might be better to… Read Full Review

Written on: 20/07/2004 by peter mcdonald (1 review written)

As a young family of four our main concerns are is Southerness holiday village clean? is it safe? is it good value for money? I have to say generally the site is kept in good order. The pitches and toilets/showers are kept in pristine condition and we didn't feel overcrowded. The beaches are within five minutes walking distance however the waters can be quite dangerous and are subject to riptides. There are no lifeguards on duty on these beaches. The swimming pool was a real cause for concern… Read Full Review

To the unhappy visitor to southerness

I completely agree with each and everyone of your points. I was a regular visitor to southerness since birth, and watched the park deteriate.

The park changes managers more times than I eat hot dinners, and they change the park for the better!! Not happened yet. Sorry I tell a lie, they enclosed the complex, but then again that proved a problem. It was step one of the site becoming a prison camp.

I could go on all day about the site, as each year there was something worse, however, the area, and the resident locals are the nicest people on earth. I still have a caravan at southerness, but I am now on lighthouse leisure. I would not recommened buying a caravan or anything, but for a short break away it is the best. Its refreshing and worthwhile, and Dumfries is a lovely town.

Good luck on having good holidays in the future.

Just been for a week, had great time. Nice to have the option of visiting the village pubs which are very kids friendly, with bouncy castles and slides, play all night for a pound.
Not as polished as Haven, but far better value for money. Despite the site being small, the entertainment was excellent. Very safe Venue for Kids. And of course all in a smoke free environment, shame on you Tony Blair.

i have been going to Southerness for years. last year i took my 7 year old and my partner and they loved it. a holiday is what you make of it not just on site, so if you have a bit of imagination, why not try crab hunting, flying a kite, not everything needs to be about theme parks and money for this and that. the best things in life are free.
