Good Points: Nothing to wow about!!!
Bad Points: Not sure about their awareness regarding health and safety. No ventilation on a sunny day (on Monday 12th May) and the gym is still open. So it becomes a natural sauna!!!! This is really dangerous.
General comments: Avoid at all cost!!! I really wish councils will take note!!!!

Machines out of order. One staff member tutted when I ask her if she would show me how to use one of the machines - this particular machine had been out of order during my induction but it had been included in my training plan and I'd been told to ask for help when it was fixed.
They denied receiving mymembership cancellation and tried to force me into a further 12 month contract.

Is now run by Virgin - aside from cheap advertising everywhere...
Focus has been moved from a luxury fitness gym with boxing to power plate nonsense when there is not the space in the Canary Wharf gym.
They have focused more on putting lights and curtains up and missed the point that this is a GYM. Only a member because of locations and move around alot but sooo fed up with that I dont go as much as train with a personal trainer (for a lot less than GBP47) at a proper gym. AVOID unless you ar ...

I went to the one in Rayliegh Essex, to look at club, only to find that you can not just walk in and asked to see the training areas and Gym weights see if you like etc, instead you have either know a member to go with a Guest or pay a fee of '£15.0o and arrange to view with one of their training consultants, seems that Richard Branson Empire has got to big for its boots

Just who is "managing" this business now? As a loyal member of Holmes Place for 8 years, my fears of a slip in standards post takeover by Virgin Active have come true.
- in both the gyms I go to, cleanliness has declined to an unacceptable rate. The toilets stink. Since the hand towels have been withdrawn (and very few people can be bothered to use the horrible tissues), gym equipment and mats are quickly soiled. It is disgusting to the extent I am considering making a complaint to the council i ...

Since the club has been taken over by virgin active the relaxing and luxury feeling that the members were getting for their money is gone. now the atmosphere is same as in a cheap club, only for x 5 the price.
extremely overcrowded.
there is a feeling that the management is trying to save the money on everything: the shampoo, conditioners and cream hav been replaced from molton brown to some cheap stuff,cheap paper and tissues in the bathrooms, etc;
it is still the nearest gym to where i live ...

I joined the High street Ken Holmes Place in May 2005 so I consider myself a loyal client. I never had one complaint until virgin active took over. First they got rid of most the staff us customers had a relationship, upped the prices and got rid of the friendliness and attention to service Holmes Place used to pride itself on.
Moreover, out of the blue, my membership was frozen last month. When I enquired about this, they said I must start a new Virgin contract (when I was already paying the n ...

I joined Virgin Active in NOv 07. Paid the monthly fee plus joining fee ( '£90) staff were so busy they didn't have time to give me an induction to the equipment. Within 3 days of using the gym I injured my knee severely.
I informed the gym straight away and sent a letter that stated I would be unable to use the gym until further notice. I also sent in proof of my hospital letters etc. I was told to pay a '£10 freezing fee, which I paid.
So in Jan 08 they took out the whole monthl ...

If you are thinking of joining VA then do it, 90% of their memberships are a non contract so you can cancel them at anytime. the only 2 things to be aware of are:
if you do want to leave the club let them know before you cancel the DD, otherwise they will try to take the money because you have not told them.
And just read the terms & conditions you will have to sign them so make sure you you know what your signing into. The people complaining about the 12 month options would have signed the pa ...

The Virgin Active gym in Crawley is superb. The staff are friendly and the gym equipment is plentiful and in good condition. The pool is often pretty quiet if in attendance early morning or lunchtime, as is the main gym itself. I do understand it can get very busy after work but I never go then so can't really comment. As a Pru Health member I get a very good subsidised membership as long as I go at least twice a week so I've got no real complaints. I have also found that personal training is a ...

Virgin Active on Old Broad st known as Bank (London) has really gone down hill.
Changing rooms have towels lying about that aren't picked up, the gym is way over crowded. When I joined I was told they limit membership so we would never have to wait for equipment.
You can never get on machines and for '£80+ a month it extortionate.
Left complaints for manager 3 times but they were never passed on.
Fortuantely my membership ends next month.
There are many better gyms than this for the cost ...

I left the Mill Hill area in May of last year and, being a busy person, completely forgot to cancel my Virgin Active membership, so that the May, June and July payments went out of my account. I phoned to cancel the membership on 3rd August and was advised I needed to write in before the 17th, to enable cancellation to be made prior to the direct debit being collected.
Again, being a busy person, I missed writing in before the 17th deadline so I allowed the payment at the end of August to go o ...

Virgin Active continues it lurch downmarket at Manchester Printworks. Do not join - look at GL14 instead (although not too good for classes there).
