“Taking. Gust ”

Written on: 04/05/2015 by Afshin1342 (1 review written)

My wife is a member of Virgin active at Mill Hill East North London . She was trying to take me as a gust for this bank holiday and the receptionist was so cold telling us that she should have had a gust card . We ask what us a gust , though she was told a gust would cost her £5 before , the reception did not know about gust and had to should at ask someone else . Then they confirmed its £15 I thought this is void understanding of their own procedure and giving no proper information to… Read Full Review

“crouch end”

Written on: 06/04/2015 by mwFrazier481 (1 review written)

I am writing a review as an ex freelance worker for this company, not only I had to listen to memebers complaints about how badly they are being treated, I have experienced really bad tratment also to a point I had to ask for police assistance three times. yes true!!! I think it is a very bad place overall, bullied staff as well as members. Finaly cut this place loose and the best decision ever has been made… Read Full Review

“Virgin Bunhill Row”

Written on: 12/02/2015 by xdFallon81 (1 review written)

The gym has recently gone through a refit, which in parts is good, however, members were promised more space to work out. What has happened is that the gym has built a new piece of equipment with monkey bars, and boxing bags etc , however, one cannot use this at lunch as the whole area is monopolised by a class (grid) which is essentially circuit training. This class should be carried out in a studio and not on the gym floor! The running machines are crammed in along one side of the gym… Read Full Review

Written on: 06/01/2015 by Cafelounger1 (1 review written)

What has happened to the once good cafe bar at Bridgend? There is a lovely new poster enticing us to a new menu. That would be great, but the menu is never on display, and nearly half the breakfast items on the secretive menu were unavailable. This was pointed out to me by the seemingly grumpy cafe lady (service with a smile would be nice!) The café for me is an important part of my trip to the gym, I tolerate the screaming kids at weekend and the intrusive chattering post class masses, because… Read Full Review

“I cancelled my membership with Virgyn active...”

Written on: 15/12/2014 by MiraPatterson229 (1 review written)

I cancelled my membership with Virgyn active (islington ) in June this year as I j was not happy with them, very crowded and limited classes for such a expensive fare ( 68 pound per month ) . So last week I realised they have been taking my money from my bank account since ! It has been 6 months so they own me more than 400 pounds . I went to the club with the bank statement and the probe that I cancelled membership and I requested to speak with the manager. Literally she did no t spend even 2… Read Full Review

“Do you have spare cash? ”

Written on: 07/12/2014 by Angela1994 (1 review written)

No value for money. Especially you join the classic ones such as aldersgate and Canary Riverside. £180 per month plus £75 joining fee. I give you a story. My boyfriend is a virgin member. I was a member a couple of years before. My home gym was Canary riverside. I visited aldersgate virgin active again on a quiet Sunday with boyfriend. I was told I can't enter the gym can't sit at the lounge to wait for my boyfriend because of health safety. I don't understand. Can I potentially hit someone… Read Full Review

“Made a complaint then staff made a witch hunt for me”

Written on: 04/12/2014 by MacLean1961 (1 review written)

Virgin active poole! Sunday evening my 10 year old son left his shorts, goggles and towel there! I didn't realise so tonight less than 24 hours I went back to the gym, asked about his list property to be informed all items that are wet are destroyed within 24 hours, this was at hour 22.....I said this should be displayed to be told we did have a notice up! They had his goggles no record of shorts or towel. I made my complaint and carried on going for a swim! After dressing one of the staff… Read Full Review

Completely agree with you, I had a pair of expensive trainers " removed " lately while I was in the steam room, the next day I was astonished to find they hadn't been handed in, slightly disgruntled as you can imagine I entered the changing area to prepare for a workout, I mentioned to a acquaintance who I know from the gym and he announced that he also had a Nike training shirt taken the week before, ironically the guy on my right said " sorry couldn't avoid over hearing you but I had a tennis racquet taken last week " - since then I have also heard a badminton racquet was taken, some might say there is a serious " kit disappearing " problem there at Virgin Active Poole, as anticipated the staff are not really interested, a few people have mentioned the place is overrun with " Chavs " ... I don't know what they mean ! - on another point I did think of a suggestion that Virgin could install some " Dummy " machines so that those who want to text or use facebook while pretending to work out could sit there and use their mobiles till there hearts are content :) that way the rest of us can use the machines, which is why we went in the first place and pay for it !

“Terrible Customer Service”

Written on: 03/12/2014 by 91Cochran (1 review written)

Joined Virgin Active Coventry recently, it's appalling, gone downhill from the old Esporta days. Save your money and find a cheaper gym, their customer service is non-existent, you complain and they couldn't care less. Dreadful place… Read Full Review

“Arrogance and zero customer service”

Written on: 29/11/2014 by Ronanj365 (1 review written)

I signed up to VA in Coventry. The place is run by kids (zero hours?) Gym is like a nightclub, way too loud and more arrogant beefcake staff on the equipment than members. The showers are straight from a developing nation. All complaints are greeted with a shrug of shoulders. Worst decision I've ever made. Can't get out of the contract though… Read Full Review

Gymgoers's Comment

Written on: 02/12/2014

My wife and I and our group of friends left Virgin in Coventry for this very reason. We we're all off peak members and would generally visit the gym 2 or 3 times a week mid-morning. The music was always thump, thump, thump and very loud. When we complained we we're told it was at an acceptable level. We never had this problem when it was Esporta. We now all go to the Village gym which isn't so much like a discotechque

“It does what it says on the tin”

Written on: 12/11/2014 by OmgItsRee (3 reviews written)

Disclaimer: I go to Merton Abbey Virgin Active so this is the only gym I can vouch for. I come to the gym with a plan, get on with it and then go, simples! The showers and spa area is always clean (maybe a couple hairs in the shower but what do you expect). Personally, I can't find many faults unless i'm seriously splitting hairs. I go there to workout and that's exactly what I do. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I get a lot of guys staring and perving, quite regularly and… Read Full Review

“NOT family friendly”

Written on: 01/11/2014

Joined the Stoke Gifford branch in Bristol. Virgin Active is not the cheapest but they have a crèche facility so I thought I would be able to leave the children there while I exercise. However, the treatment the children received was so appalling I'm afraid to leave them in their care. I'm in a contract so I have to endure this for 12 months but I certainly will not renew my contract. The staff (not everybody but a large percentage) are unmotivated and unfriendly. There is no 'club'… Read Full Review

“Virgin Active Customer Service”

Written on: 26/09/2014 by emason (1 review written)

Furious that I joined for 12 months & only 6 weeks in they withdrew ALL the classes for my 12 year old (but not my 8 year old), reduced the gym time for her to 6pm (I work so don't get there before) and introduced a system which costs an additional £315 a year for 1 class a week for her!!! Now I'm stuck paying for her to go swimming, which is not what I signed up for. I have complained and may aswell be talking to the wall, or a politician, as they consistently ignore my questions and avoid… Read Full Review

“Car park”

Written on: 15/09/2014 by Remingtony148 (1 review written)

A good club; pool and equipment are excellent; staff are generally professional and friendly; personal trainers are very professional. The problem is that despite an ever increasing membership there are VERY few dedicated parking spaces for members. The area is very aggressively policed by ever-present attendants; if you forget to display your large cumbersome sign (even running back to display it having forgotten 4 mins earlier on leaving your car); touch a white line, fail to display the sign… Read Full Review

“Useless sales service - totally pathetic”

Written on: 13/09/2014 by Ahmed89 (1 review written)

Wanted to become a member, but it became soooo painful, that i have decided to join fitness first, even though virgin is just a 2 min walk from my house. The sales guy on the phone was useless, didnt knew the packages, and was not paying attention to my query. The lady on the front desk was equally pathetic. Told me sales staff has gone for the day, and i need to pay some money to some charity(not against charity, but you cannot force me to pay to a charity), to use the club for the day… Read Full Review

“Fabulous Spa day at Romford Branch”

Written on: 05/09/2014 by Louise2549 (1 review written)

My mum and I had a voucher from Buy a gift for a spa day for two which included entrance and use of the facilities. We used the pool area, including the sauna and steam room and the jacuzzi baths (one was not working but that is my only complaint). All areas were clean and tidy. We were impressed. Be warned though, you need a padlock rather than a £1 for the lockers. Most strange but the lovely lady on reception loaned us one so it wasn't a problem. We swam in the pool which was warm and a… Read Full Review
