The new Virgin Active in Twickenham is a real disappointment and certainly should not be a 'Classic Club'. They lack a lot of basic equipment that you would expect to find in any gym like back extension and machines to exercise your abs.

The showers would be power showers if they did not have shower heads the size of dinner plates, and limestone floor holds water thus you are paddling though stagnant pools of water in the shower area.

The inductions really let the gym down though - at the induction they plonk you onto one of four pre-written training programmes and then you get personal training hard cell. If you want to know how to do the exercises you have to attend group training sessions. This really took the biscuit in my mind - not even the local authority gym would make you go to group induction sessions.

Considering this gym is owned by the Rugby Football Union you would have thought it would have been much better equipped.

very dishonest, unfare contract, once you have signed, that,s it,it's impossible to get reed of them, and their saunas are full of dust-look under the shelves.even in canary wharf branch,in so-called classic one!and if you want to downgrade, say from 110 a month to 80,you contract start all over again-for another year, and they wouldn't tell that strait away!you will have nasty surprise later!

The gym staff is very friendly and approachable. I have realised though that some can't imagine very well why a client would want to use one of the rare to find cleaning sprays and towels to clean a machine, and when trying to report or discuss issues, the front desk staff tends to acknowledge complaints, but it's very hard to get hold of the general manager who may not even exist.

The men's locker doors have been falling out of its fittings since months, and when I reported it to the shift ma ...

Since being converted from a Holmes Place to a Virgin Active the standard of staff particularly front of house has deteriorated immeasurably. Due to faulty boilers their is a lack of hot water for the showers, the air conditioning when working blows the smell of a nearby kebab shops extractor air into the gym, not ideal when your meant to be working out and can't get the idea of kebabs out of your mind. The entrance card swiping machines are falling apart and don't let you through, the club desp ...

DO NOT JOIN THE DIAMOND MEMBERSHIP!!! Roll over contract, Virgin do not remind you that your year is up and it's due to roll over to another year, the 12th payment is when you CAN cancel however this is not 12months time - ie you join July but your 12'th payment is in May - not July!! (A CLEVER TRICK) If you loose your job, they wont cancel it!!!! you have to buy out!! I then found a job miles away from the gym! I have the buy out!! Terrible terrible contract.

I was a member at Virgin Active in Islington for six years and only moved on when I moved house.

In all it was pretty good. The equipment is good, the entertainment great and the atmposhere is fun. It can get crowded at peak times and there are times when the change rooms were not big enough. But in all it was not too bad. (I went 5+ times a week for six years)

I only had to provide 14 days notice to cancel my membership.

I've just joined Virgin Active (Canary Riverside) on a monthly basis, and went for my first visit today.

I had a session with a trainer, who was very supportive and patient, and I've found all the staff to be really nice, from the guy serving coffee in the cafe to the receptionists, to sales and trainer staff. It really put me at ease since I was very nervous to begin with!

The changing rooms are clean, with nice big showers, plenty of room, proper (i.e. big) towels, and Molton Brown toiletr ...

ok, so I had a look on acouple of websites dealing with Virgin Active Health. reviews or compaints(more to say) and all I can see is that this is the way these people make money out of us. I mean who expect such reputable name such as VIRGIN to come up with hidden contract details? To be honest, I didn't read mine throughly, but was sure that all there is to know about my type of contract, the membership consultant explained to me already. After all, he is there to make the experience easier for ...

I have been at my local Virgin Active gym (Bromley) for the last two months while back from uni, the staff are all very friendly and the facilities are kept clean and tidy. Due to the mass of equipment within the gym there is rarely then need to wait around to use something. All the machines are of a high standard and offer a wide range of variety. On the note of bed experiences with cancelations i have to say i disagree with the majority of people on this site as i had no problems with cancelin ...

Both my wife and I feel we were badly dealt with when it came to ending our Active Health membership.
Be careful of Virgins contracts they have a 12 month automatic roll over.

The staff were terrible when it came to leaving.

I wouldn't join them if they opened up next door.

VIRGIN GYM (OLD STREET)- they don't say what they mean

For all those who are becoming members of Virgin gym (Old Street) should be aware that the squash playing facilities are only available to members twice a week, this means that you cannot play squash or book a court for more than twice a week.

Prior to taking the membership one can be easily lured by its outstanding facilities, however the squash restriction was not made clear to me by the facility and neither is it mentioned in my contra ...

My boyfriend and I were looking for a gym nearby our home and signed up for a FREE trial at the Virgin Active in North Street, SW11. A Virgin Active sales guy called us and wanted to fix a time with us casually throwing in the fact that a FREE trial will cost us 15 Pounds per person!!! He generously added we would get the money back if we sign up for a 12 months contract for over 70 Pounds per month each.
I was pretty disappointed about such a practice to recruit new members and decided to give ...

Virgin Active health clubs have the worst customer service ever.
I was told i could cancel my contract after i had done the first twelve months.
Only to find out that as i was now in my 13th month i have to pay for another whole year!!!
Steer well clear of this money grabbing poor excuse for a gym.

I was a member of this gym when it was Esporta. The staff were lovely, the service exceptional and there was a feel you belonged to a really professional organisation.

Then Virgin Active Health Clubs took over. They systematically forced out the old staff, brought in a gaggle of people that obviously couldnt find work elsewhere and ruined the whole club. The previously plant festooned, dimly lit bar and chill out area with free coffee and toast in the mornings was replaced with a string of c ...

I have been a member on a number of gyms in the past 3 years and can honestly say Virgin Active is the best one I have been a member of. The changing rooms are exceptionally clean, staff are really friendly and the gym itself has the latest Technogym equipment with built in TV's, and plenty of gym equipment so you aren't waiting for machines. The pool area is superb, the pool has no chlorine as it's UV treated which is great for me as the chlorine really stings my eyes. The only gripe I have is ...

The staff in Virgin Active Health Clubs Notting Hill branch is not helpfull at all. when you want to cancel your membership , there will be a big drama.I had to cancel my membership last December as I injured myself during the classs. I did not receive a proper first aid and I couldn't go to work for a week. Managers did not really cared, couldn't be bothered to call me back. However, they were more than happy to charge me!!!I loved Holmes Place so much and never experienced a problem. The cultu ...

I have been with Virgin (Solihull) for 6 years and recentley had to cancel after being made redundent and change of circumstances. I emailed to cancel my membership but I was advised that this was not possible as my contract was a rolling one and I had to buy out the remainder of the year even thou I had been with them for many years and they would not consider my change of circumstances. They do not even send out reminders so if you miss the last four weeks of the contract you automatically go ...
