    "WARNING BEWARE MONEY GRABBERS"

If you are looking for a gym to join "DO NOT JOIN DAVID LLOYD LEEDS". They will lie and act in the nicest way ever so that you can join. Once you sign that contract you are signing for "HELL". I have had nothing but trouble from them. This includes being mislead, arguing, staff discriminating against the disabled, unfriendly staff and rude. The managers are useless and have morals of a SEWER RAT!! I am paying a lot of money for a service that they cannot provide. If you forget your gym card like any normal person would, then they will charge you £1 each time. This is not meantioned when joining and is out of order seen as am paying £98 per month. This has been the biggest mistake i have ever made. Do not repeat my mistake and give these money grabbers your hard earned money as they don't deserve it.

I have been a member for eight years but following my husbands reduncancy in the summer my family (2 adults and 3 kids) cannot afford to pay the mortgage or utility bills, let alone gym membership. Nevertheless they are insisting on us paying them three months notice and have threatened us with debt collectors, legal action and additional charges.

It astounds me that they would treat their CUSTOMERS in this way. Although their contract states three months notice, they are not obliged to enforc ...

David Lloyds has a three months cancellation policy.
I asked many times to cancel but they refused to do so unless I brought a letter in in writing. I said I didn't have access to a printer and they suggested a ask a friend to print it out and sign it. In the end I asked if I could just write out a letter - which I could but no one suggested!!...

However I made the fatal mistake of "apparently" cancelling on 1st of the month (even though my letter is dated the 31st). So I was charged for four ...

Member of Basildon Club since March I am forced to leave after 11 months as the club is local to where I work rather than live.

    I have complained about the fact the notice period was never mentioned until I had joined and signed. David Lloyd sent the following reply;

    Hi

No that is not correct, our membership terms and conditions are clear with regards to cancellation processes - within your initial term of 12-months you can give written notice up to end of month 11 to cancel at the end ...

DL is one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with.
My Son has tried to cancel his membership using the correct procedure, but DL just cannot administer correctly.
York staff are hopeless and pre-programmed to give negative stock answers and do not want to help.
My son now finds that he has to give what amounts to 4 months notice as he cancelled in the middle of a month and DL want 3 Calendar months notice. As he believed he had followed the correct procedure , he cancelled his DD onl ...

I joined the West Bridgford David Lloyd back in June 2009.

Trust me, its very very expensive just to join the gym. Costing me £71 per month. Not much facilities in the gym area and carpets look filty and unclean.

Nobody ever talks to you. Booked for a personal trainer but he never turned up on the day. Seems to be not enough staff.

They only want your money. Trust me on this. Wish my contract was up, but will be cancelling soon and joining somewhere else. ...

They are generally just money grabbing and ludicrously expensive. Added to which their customer service is shocking. I think they reckon that we should all be incredibly grateful to thm for allowing us to belong to such a fantastic 'private' gym, rather than feeling that THEY should be grateful for OUR custom.

Pettifogging rules, 12 years olds enforcing them, insolent and unhelpful staff, queues, not answering phones....the list is endless.

    Take your custom elsewhere.

I would strongly advise anyone joining David Lloyd. I have been a member for 8 years - the last 3 years on my own so imagine my surprise when they rang my expartner who I had the joint membership with on his mobile number and asked him for information about me and gave him my address. This made it impossible for me to return there but would they waive the 3mths notice - well what do you think? They would not admit ringing him let alone breaching the data protection laws and merely passed the deb ...

My first ever posting on this forum

Can I thank everyone on this forum for helping me decide to leave David Lloyd. All your comments confirm what I have thought for a while. I started the year over weight and joined DL Basildon as a corporate member for £68 a month. I have not a clue what a corporate member offers and never been told but it is certainly not the £20 saving sold to me when I joined. (BTW I only get gym access for that money). The club is run with charges for ever ...

David Lloyd Cambridge is the best club in the area, it has had some bad times but is getting better and i could not ask for a better club. They have just undergone a full gym referbishment with a huge range of equipment and the personal traniers are very helpful. Another welcome addition is the creche which is great as i leave my little one in there whilst i work out. Staff are good and always helpful, would recomend to anybody in the area.

STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS CLUB. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT BY THE MEMBERSHIP DEPT, NOT TO SAY BREAKING DATA PROTECTION!

I rate this on the basis that I am (at age 75) a recent newcomer to gyms and my only experience beyond David Lloyd is of a Local Authority gym which I looked at and which by comparison was terrible.

I do not think that you get value for money at DL the service is poor and the equipment and facilities are dirty. Furthermore the classes are always fully booked. They have just increased their membership fee by over £25 to add salt to my wound.

I'm reasonably satisfied with the facilities at my local club (Worthing). Most staff are pleasant -with just one exception who is on reception at times who is rude and condescending. The shower facilities are not the best and need updating with the changing rooms.
A subscription increase has just been notified. There was no reduction this year when VAT was reduced and I'm sure they said that as they'd retained the benefit of the VAT reduction they'd freeze subs for 2010. Still waiting for an answ ...

I am a member at David Lloyd, Cheam. Its is a great family club but I am particularly upset with one of their receptionist in particular, whose rude and inconsiderate. She makes my trip to the gym a very depressing especially when she's the first person you meet as you enter the club.
I feel that its a very money minded gym, charging £7.50 entrance fee for outsiders who wish to dine in the club.
I received a later yesterday, informing me of my gym membership price increase(Again). I have t ...

Im a member of David Lloyd cheshire oaks till March, I will be cancelling my membership after receiving a letter stating they were increasing my off peak subscription from £58 per month to £61 after telling me what a great company they are and a great customer i am! i called to discuss and told them the club is shabby, the toilets are very often flooded and stink of sewage, the shower next to the pool has been broke for months, a machine in the gym has been broke for months. I told t ...

I was a member of David Lloyd, Port Solent, and felt that once the staff had my direct debit set up they lost interest in my custom and my health. I cancelled my membership after a year, then stupidly decided to give them a second chance. That time I left sooner. Recently my step daughter gained a life saving qualification, wrote an excellent CV and travelled down from Loughborough to Port Solent to stay with us and hope to get a job at David Lloyd. Having spoken to a member of staff on the ...

I am currently a member at David Lloyds in Chorley Lancashire.
The facilities are second to none with a huge gym with an indoor and outdoor pool.
The staff are warm and friendly.
However watch out for the tatics of the sales team as they will tell you anything you want to hear and hope you dont read the small print on the contract.
I joined my daughter (£30 a month)for what I was told was for an intial 3 months and then I had to only provide one full months notice to end the contract.
