Good Points: Promotes stress-free living, health and happiness.

Bad Points: You will need to find some stress-free living, health and happiness after your experience with David Lloyd.

General comments: David Lloyd conveniently 'lose' details of your resignation and threaten baliffs on the first nasty letter. I received a threat of baliffs if I did not settle almost £1800 .......six months after I had left the club, having completed the necessary three month notice, etc.

David Lloyd Leisure Health Club is a disgusting place. No hot water in the showers, with no apologies, rude service. They write to you about everything all year, and then a month after you think your membership has ended they send solicitors round saying you owe them 3 months for notice. No advance warning letters that your membership is up in all those useless junk mails though! Very rude.

STAY AWAY! from David Lloyd Leisure Health Club, I only joined for my daughters love for Tennis, the courses have been good but the extra fee's on top of my memebership are killing me. I'm now looking to join just a tennis club as we don't use the gym. I mentioned about cancelling as i have been made redundant and although i have a job lined up which they didn't know about they still request full payment of the rest of my contract which is 5 months. They also promised to have a gym program wrot ...

I found David Lloyd Gyms entirely geared as a business attempting to make as much money as possible and not generally interested in what the members need or want.I have been a member with David Lloyd for about 5 years but due to a change in circumstances, I wished to amend the membership. My wife was pregnant and wished to suspend the membership for 12 months. They wouldn't let her unless she had a serious medical condition. Note, I wished to continue my membership at £65 a month. They a ...

I am receiving appalling treatment, I lost my job so had to cancel my membership because my income collapsed. David Lloyds are making me hand over some of my income support until the cancellation period is fully paid, in my case they are also making me pay for 4 months because they say my cancellation letter was received after the 1st of the month so I have to pay that month in addition to the normal 3 months cancellation period. They have told me if I don ' t hand over some of my income support ...

Its all relative. Been going 2 years and down to 13st - (6ft Male) If you can pay £70 per month for single membership and want to go to a clean gym where you never have to wait to get on your equipment then this is the place for you. Also all walks of life go to David Lloyds so if you weigh 30 stonne or age 70 plus, or in a wheelchair, its good - no one blinks an eye.

The David Lloyd Leisure Health Club gyms may have nice equipment and the like but it is clearly evident that most people will never read the terms and conditions of the memberships as with many contracts. having looked in to the 'harsh' conditions it is evident that the 3 months notice is water tight and you even have to give 1 months notice if you die!!! how ridiculous. If this isn't the stance of a company who wish to screw every last penny out of every customer then i don't know what is! I w ...

do not get into a contract with them. they are not very helpful at all. i was made redundant in feb 2009 and wanted to cancel my agreement but they suspended it for 6 months. i later put in a cancelation letter. i was told that if i am on suspended then each month will be added on to the end of the agreement when i come of the suspention. this is a rip off. if you feel you may want to join David Lloyd Leisure Health Club, personally i would stay away at all costs

I have been a member of David Lloyd York for 5 years (it has only been DL for a year, before that it was Next Generation). I chose the club because of the state of the art gym facilities on offer and the fantastic outdoor pool/jacuzzi. However; I would recommend that anyone thinking of joining David Lloyd pay CLOSE attention to their T&Cs before signing any contracts. I had paid for my yearly membership up-front for my entire time at the gym- and this year had decided to look elsewhere because o ...

Do not join the David Lloyd Leisure Health Club. They were keen to sell the "family gym" to me. So I joined and a month later they removed the services that were useful for my children, saying it was a change of timetable. They still expected me to continue my contract, although their removal of the children's clubs meant that I could not use the gym.As for trying to resolve this:They took notice of any of my queries, I wrote to them and only got a response to the second letter after a numb ...

We had joined David Lloyd Leisure Health Club Leeds club in November-08 and told in person that can downgrade the membership if not able to utilize racquets - Well don't believe in words spoken by their staff as there is no such thing in contract. At the same time we were trying to downgrade by giving in writing, meeting club manager in person, calling their membership team and everyone said you can't downgrade it where eventually they had already downgraded it !!! Isn't it surprise that member ...

The front desk staff at David Lloyd Leisure Health Club lack customer facing skills, the hygiene in the change rooms is poor, phones go unanswered, if they make an error then its your tough luck and dont expect an apology. Join a gym that treats you like a customer - go elsewhere

When I found out that I was pregnant, I went in to our local David Lloyd club (Leicester) to enquire about freezing my membership later in my pregnancy as I guessed I would struggle to attend. I was told that this was not possible and all I could do was cancel my membership but would have to pay if I rejoined more than 3 months later. Obviously, I do not feel a financial penalty should be paid for being pregnant, partcularly when David Lloyd charge handsomely for family membership! I sent in my ...

Way to expensive, David Lloyd Leisure Health Club keep putting the prices up, don`t inform you of this. Once they have your bank details, that`s all they are interested in. Machines leave alot to be desired,[granted they are new but not very good]. Weights need to be increased, your not allowed to grunt or make noises when training. The instructor`s only seem to be interested in getting people bouncing around on ball`s for £30 ph. They do not correct people when they are using or doing t ...

Have been trying to cancel my membership with david lloyd leisure health club since November 2008. They hadn't received it; and it must be my fault !! I should have made sure I had received confirmation as per their T&C's.The costs are piling up. I'd been a member for several years and had to leave because we've moved. I feel that I'm being treated like a criminal.

I wouldn't recommend David Lloyd Southampton to anyone. They have a like it or lump it attitude to everything. The only reason we are still members is the location.

If you are stupid enough to go to David Lloyd and pay exorbitant prices for poor service make sure you read the small print of the contract. You need to give one month notice if you cancel within the initial 12 month period or 3 (yes 3) months notice after the intial 12 months. You will be charge for the 3 month notice period. If you don't give notice you and don't go to DL you'll be charged until you give formal notice and they won't tell you this. When you do give notice you'll be told about t ...
