I've been a member of nuffield (cannons) in BRISTOL for the past 4 years. Whilst it is quite a good size and they've recently improved the steam room, it still has some serious problems. As it is built about a nearby restaurant (Cosmos), every lunchtime it stinks of garlic and food being cooked. This problem has been going on for years and I can't understand why they don't get an engineer to look at the air conditioning. Also, the usual couple of staff who man reception and generally unfriendly, don't greet you and are generally pretty unhelpful.

I tried to enquire about making an investment into the company. They reception staff could not comprehend this, told me that they do not speak to anyone other than members and do not have e-mail or the facility to write anything down in order for someone to get back to me! Despite making it very clear I was not selling anything and actually looking to make an investment they insisted that they couldn't put me through to anyone. The representative suggested I write in to complain and continued to ...

I have been a member of Cannons Health Club in Plymouth since its inaurgation in 1999.

My continued membership does not represent satisfaction with the facilities or services in Plymouth but a resignation to the fact that there's no viable competition in this area of the city. Staff on the whole are pleasant but lack experience, or any incentive, or responsiblity, for solving problems such as repair and maintenance of equipment. There is no effective maintenance and repair programme. When an it ...

Nuffield Health club in Aylesbury and their head office in Kingston are one of the poorest customer service experiences I have ever encountered. They cancel activities, do not communicate with members and offer no explanation. Their is no obvious route to Customer service at head office, when you get a call back is rude beyond beleif, with an attitude of "tough! thats the rules". The CEO e has not replied to my contact efforts. I would move to a competitor today if there was a local alternative. ...

I've been member of Cannons'nuffield'' for 3 years now and i just love the club...But today i heard the most rediculos thing ever! My friend was looking for a club so i sujest her to come with me for a tryal, but when we where there the receptionist sayd that she had to pay £5,00 deposit and if she did not sign the contract she would loose her money.
The last email that i had from then was asking to bring a friend for a FREE tryal and if they would joy the club they would have the rest ...

Advised only way I could cancel my cannons health club membership was to send a letter of come in to gym. They said the letter was 2 days late. So annoyed as t&c's said I could email my cancellation request.Rand to speak to manager, deputy manager took message and said she'd be intouch to discuss. Next thing debt collection agency letter.I will certainly never join this gym again they have since lost 4 close friends who are members following my experience.

NUFFIELD HEALTH, Or CANNONS, HERTFORD.******** DO NOT JOIN , THIS IS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO TRAIN AND ITS NEARLY 60 QUID A MONTH**************The staff are hopeless, Not willing to help, more interested in chatting to fellow staff members about what they are doing at the weekend. Management dont listern to concerns raised and are quite clearly not bothered about clients leaving - As long as they have there money from you for a good peroid of time before you go. There are faults ...

I was a member of Cannons (now Nuffield) in Bristol for 4 years. Over the past year, their customer service plummetted. Their method of handling complaints is extremely poor, and although I copied head Office into them, I never had an intervention or response from them.

When you are tied into a 12 month contract, there should be some transparent and public method of resolving complaints. 'Sorry' really isn't enough. The Finess Industry Association are supposed to set out standards for their me ...

A word of warning for anyone joining Nuffield gym (formerly Canons) and being lured into a 12 month contract to 'save' on your monthly gym fees. Despite being members of Canons for several unbroken years previously, when we moved to Harrogate with work we had to sign a new contract and ended up signing a 12 month contract. Shortly afterwards, unexpected job redundancy forced us to move out of the area after only four months living in the area, where we found our nearest new Nuffield was a 60 m ...

One only finds out about the problems with canceling when you're leaving and by then its obviously too late. Going to work in Canada I could just leave it to them to try and recoup the costs from me there but don't want my credit rating ruined over here if I ever return! So I'll pay and maybe a few people will read this review and either choose to go to another gym or be very careful when they choose to cancel!

I recently left the Cannons Health Club, Worcester branch. I can not speak to the manager on the phone. I did not receive the MP3 player I was offered when I joined. In my opinion a very poor customer service. I would never use them again

Upon taking a joint membership with Cannons Hertford (my wife was an existing member) they messed up the direct debit and this took several months to sort out. As a result we were keen to leave and were informed that we could cancel on 30/11/08 - this appears to have been a mistake on their part as we are now being sent letters demanding payment for December (despite not using the gym and not taking up the remainder of childrens swimming lessons in December).

Customer service and staff. Unable to communicate and when I wrote to the manager with my very valid complaints - 10 of them, I didn't even get a response. Yes I do know he received it, his assistant rang me to say so and said he would be in touch. I have been a member for 2 years and can honestly say this is the worst club I have ever belonged to and am unlikely to ever belong to a Cannons club again on the strength of my experience. I just hope that Nuffield can turn things around as I am a nu ...

I am moving at the begining of next year to a town that doesn't have a Cannons so I wrote to the manager on 16th November to cancel my membership on 31st December.
The response from the manager was that I signed up for a 12 month contract so will have to pay Jan and Feb's payment, even though I am unable to use the facilities.
When I called to discuss the matter with the manager I got some snooty secretary who said they would just send debt collectors if i didn't pay up.
For 2 months it will cos ...

I have been a member of Cannons in St Albans for 7 years and can't speak highly enough of the place. The classes are all good, the equipment is updated regularly. The atmosphere is friendly. On top of the above they have a fantastic pool which my 1 year old and 3 year old love.

2 years ago i had a membership with Cannons on a 12 month contract of which about 9 months in i wished to cancel because the facilities id not really justify the money.

So i asked about cancelling, they said i was locked into my contract so i waited it out and on the last day of my contract i rang up the local gym (CANNOCK) where they confirmed the cancellation.

10 months later they are still taking money form my account at an increased rate. I tried ringing there head office number but no re ...

I am on my second contract with Cannons (I was a member 8 years ago for a couple of years and just stopped going so stopped the contract), my wife was with Cannons 2-3 years ago and we had a nightmare stopping the contract for her, yes the debt collectors letters etc. We are both members again of the Surbiton Cannons via PruHealth and this time we are both making an effort to keep the momentum of regular visits even if it is just to use the pool for an hour or so. I think that Cannons staff are ...

I was very surprised to read negative comments about other Cannons Clubs around the country. I am an off Peak member at the Cannons in St Georges Park Wandsworth, London and I can honestly say that i think that the club is great and I really enjoy the classes, the Instructors are very good and make the classes fun. On the few occasions that i have used the Gym I have also been very happy with the care and attention. If we have any comments to make changes about the classes I feel we are listern ...

I was a member of the Covent Garden club for 6 months. For the money I paid, almost £80 a month, it was dreadful value. The changing rooms were crowded and not always that clean. The gym itself was full to bursting most of the time meaning that during peak times the wait to use equipment was ridiculous. The worst part though was when I tried to leave. I sent a letter giving them one months notice which they conviently didn't recieve. I ended up with debt collector letters and a whole lot ...

Be very careful of the contract terms. You must give a month ' s calendar notice.
Recently I have secured a job outside of the UK in Sydney - when informing the club on the 7th of September they said I would also have to pay for Oct as they require a calendar months notice.
When phoning the customer services department at head office and asking that why after 9 years of membership and hading over £7500 of fees including introducing 3 friends and my wife and would expect them to be flexibl ...
