“They still take money out even after you've canceled”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Davisag96 on 28/12/2016

I went in to the LA fitness in South Tampa on Dale Maybry and canceled my contract the lady scan my card and said OK you're canceled a month later I get a call from corporate wanting to update my billing and I said why would you want to update my billing when I have canceled. He told me oh OK no problem then they continue to take out money so I called corporate office she proceeds to tell me well there's nothing I can do the lady should've given you a piece of paper as it was never giving to you I will cancel it over the phone but we're not supposed to do this now in the meantime they've taken out $150 of my money and I have not use their facilities so they did give me a refund on December 1 for November but then they take money out again in December so I had to call them again so please do not sign up with LA Fitness because they will find a way to continue taking money out of your account even though you're not using the facilities. I've never had to deal with the company that so on organized that three different people tell you that they've canceled your account and then I spoke to the guy this morning the end of December and he says it's still not canceled so that tells me they've got serious money issues. Well I'm sorry I'm not paying for their money issues I'm already gonna lose $150 that they're not going to refund me so please do not sign up with them.

“Appalling customer service and ruined my credit rating !”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Owen361 on 02/10/2015

I was moving to Australia for a few years so made a meeting appointment with the gym manager to cancel in the Oxford branch. The lady said it was all cancelled, took my membership card off me and I thought that was it. 2 years later I get a frantic call from my father saying debt collectors were trying to collect an unpaid gym membership debt - the manager hadn't cancelled the membership and had left it running. I returned to the UK with a poor credit rating. I contacted head office who said they would sort it out, and never heard anything again. 5 years later the debt collectors are still chasing me!

“Worst Customer Service Imaginable”

★☆☆☆☆

written by kwMills341 on 29/08/2015

This is one of those instances you think only happens in the movies. My significant other and I had signed up for gym memberships and personal trainers through LA Fitness. When we signed up, we thought we were signing up for a month by month basis. It was never explained to us by either the Sales Rep or the Sales Manager who was called over to offer us a better deal we were signing up for a 12 month program. 13 days into our program, and two training sessions later, the unimaginable happened: We lost our jobs. No income. Both laid off. Working for the entertainment industry, I knew I could find a new job within a few weeks. However, my partners industry isn't as forgiving. We pleaded with the gym to cancel and reimburse at least a portion of the sign up fees, and the Sales Manager insisted there was nothing he could do. If we wanted to opt out, we would need to BUY out. Paying for half of the unused training sessions for the YEAR. Well over $1,500, just to cancel, on top of the $700+ we had just spent signing up. We weren't pleased with his answer, and we asked for a customer service number. He was unwilling to provide us a number. Not just unwilling, he blatantly refused us. He went as far as saying there was NO Corporate number, and that if there was, they would be closed anyways seeing it was 5pm EST. Then he told us there wasn't anything THEY could do for us anyways. The way we were treated by this supposed Manager was unacceptable. We had to look up a corporate number to call seeing the Sales Manager at our gym was refusing to be of any help. We called and called, and no one offered a single solution saying, "Well, you signed a contract. Sorry," as if these people had never heard of an Extenuating Circumstance. We were finally put on the line with an Avalon, saying they'll look into our account and get back to us. It's been two weeks, without a single call from corporate besides the billing department telling us they cannot bill us. What a shame! I decided to call myself, pleading with the customer service reps that if we do not receive some sort of refund, we'll not only default on our payments to LA Fitness, but we'll lose the roof over our heads as well. Of which, the rep's reply was "It's not LA Fitness putting you on the street," as if that was some sort of consolation. 72 hours over a grace period, and LA Fitness refuses to help. What was offered, we would have our memberships cancelled and no further billing department calls would occur. We spent over 700 dollars on training sessions and memberships, of which, we used 2 hours of training each, and 5 entries into the gym. We had signed up for 8 one hour sessions a month total. Basically, we only used half of our months training sessions, and are now being told we will not be reimbursed for the remaining half due to contractual obligations. The unwillingness to help someone in need. The awful treatment we received from the Sales Manager at the gym here in Casselberry, FL. The ineptitude of the customer service department. All prime reasons to NEVER sign up with LA Fitness. Who wants to go to a gym where you're just viewed as a dollar sign rather than a human being? Because that's how LA Fitness views it's clientele.

“Terrible and shoddy business practices”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EmeliaFigueroa on 04/08/2015

DON'T JOIN! When I signed up, I was told that if I moved overseas, they could cancel my subscription easily (which was the major reason for joining, as I was planning to move to Australia). Of course, when I tried to leave, they charged me for an additional two months, even after I gave notice as instructed. I tried to cancel my direct debit and they charged me anyway. LA fitness also promise '2 free personal training sessions'. These were completely useless (the trainer showed me two stretches, and told me to eat more yoghurt...Seriously, that was the entire session). The sessions were just an excuse to sell expensive personal training subscriptions. The trainer tried to pressure me into subscribing (at a cost of a few hundred pounds a month), even after I told him I couldn't afford it.

“Enough To Put You Off Going To The Gym Ever Again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/06/2015

Possibly the worst gym out of about 10 I have been to over the years: 1) The one day pass is a scam - instead of having any time to sample the gym/facilities you will spend the good part of an hour having all of your personal data gathered and be sold to unashamedly. 2) I don't understand the trend in London of having to bring your own padlocks to start with but when you are made to go out and buy one even for the one day trial, only to find it has to be industrial sized to fit the lockers here it leaves you annoyed (to put it politely). 3) The gym equipment is average at best (the first treadmill I tried didn't work at all) and you feel like you're working out in a dungeon- I'd rather fork out the £160 per month membership fee for the Third Space up the road and not eat for a month instead.

“Worst. Gym. Ever.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dr.JCA on 10/06/2015

Had a monthly membership at the Waldorf location for 1.5 months -- so had the opportunity to try out the gym at different times over a decent/ representative period. I had high hopes as the location was just perfect for mid afternoon workouts (i.e. off peak time). Unfortunately, this was absolutely the worst professional gym I have ever used (and I have used many all over the world): overcrowded to say the least (even off-peak), with serious wait-times for whatever limited amount of benches, dumbbells, and machines are available; not all cycles actually work; really old equipment overall; unhygienic and just plain rank smelling gym; rude, unhelpful, and totally disinterested staff (other than those that sell memberships); severely cramped locker rooms; and a tiny pool that is useless the moment there are 2+ people. Also, membership agents will say whatever to get you to join -- read the fine print! Very difficult to cancel and will require phoning head office. I tried to hang in there but the place is just awful!

“Cancellations poor facilities”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kelleherjg208 on 30/04/2015

On attempting to cancel membership you have to pay 2 months not the 28 days notice you think. I cancelled as so far this year classes cancelled. No hot water in showers, steam room etc not working, overbooked classes, stopped using pool as cold not warm. I was warned against joining this gym but stupidly thought I knew better. If your thinking of joining beware and be prepared to be ripped off on cancelling your membership. I am going back to David LLoyd gym as apart from being more expensive at least you get the facilities you pay for rather than a substandard service. Wish I had listen to others and checked out club reviews

“bad customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by wasted1984 on 24/04/2015

I was over charged for 3 months spoke to head office about the issues I was having and to try to get them put rite. I was told to wait for a call back after reporting that my membership had been missold too me promises was made to get me to take out a member ship . I was overcharged and was told I would have multiple gym access. I made a complaint about this and had too constantly chase it up no one called me bad customer service for a start then I was given a email address took a while for a response again but I did get one eventually they said they would rectify the mistake made by the salesman and refund me but failed to address the multi gym access that I was promised when I signed up after email after email I was fed up and asked to cancel my membership I was told I was stuck with my membership for a year so I then enquired into the multi gym access that I was promised I was given a email telling me that I would have to pay more for that per month not taking into account that its what that was promised too me when I signed up . So now I'm stuck paying for a membership that was miss sold to me and asked to pay more for what was agreed in the first place very bad customer service They never once called me to explain anything to me even though I was promised a phone call from a general manger and I was told the person who sold me the membership is going to receive extra training so this doesn't happen again yet I am left with paying for something that was misold to me without getting what I signed up for in the first place The only thing that has been done for me is the money I was overcharged will be taken off my next bill The multi gym access I was promised has been ignored and I was told if I wanted it it can be added at extra charge.trying to charge me extra for something that was agreed on when joining well done la fitness for your customer service inn this matter Not a happy customer can not wait too leave

DO NOT join in the gym especially in Purely. They miss sell contracts and when you constantly ringing and email them for weeks they do not get in contact with you for weeks so they can charge you more. Advise to all. never join in the Purely gym. The way they treat you when they miss sell you contract is disgusting!

“Not even worth the one star.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ajc3x on 27/01/2015

Was told when I signed up by an advisor, and the manager at the Derby branch, that I could sign up per month that I wanted to join the gym as oppose to a rolling contract. Being informed this by the manager, I assumed that when October finished, so would my contract if I didn't sign up again to use the gym in November, this is what the advisor AND the manager had told me. Therefore you can imagine how utterly teed off I am that it is now January and has taken me three weeks to cancel my membership because of people dicking around and am now £90 out of pocket due to false advertising, blatant lying and corporate knobheads. Avoid at all costs.

THE STAFF ARE SO RUDE AND I HAVE HEARD THEM SLAGGING OFF THE CUSTOMERS ON MANY OCCASIONS. I THINK I WOULD RATHER SWIM IN A SWAMP THAN THIS DIRTY DISGUSTING POOL FULL OF DIRTY IN THE CHANGING ROOM. LETS HOPE THEY GO IN TO LIQUIDATION FAST AND DO US ALL A FAVOUR.

“Just awful ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 17Davis on 22/01/2015

Was a member of the Burnham club which was run down, overcrowded and overpriced. My real issue, however, is their treatment of me after I ended my membership. I received letter after letter threatening fines, overdue fees and debt collection agencies. After months, it turned out that this was due to an admin error on their part. Terrible company - wouldn't recommend to anyone.

“Please do not go to any LA Fitness gyms, please”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mosesg274 on 22/01/2015

I joined LA Fitness in Southgate so I that me and my children could use the swimming pool. The pool is smelly, the changing room, cold, uninviting. The water is always cold, my poor, poor children. I decided to cancel my membership because I have fallen on financial difficulties and it wasn't good value for money, they asked if they could have my bank statements and redundancy letter. Like hell I'm going to provide them with my personal details.

“LA FITNESS NORTHOLT-GONE DOWN THE PAN FURTHER!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by OrionPutnam on 07/01/2015

Joined this club years ago when it was Dragons, at that time it was great, friendaly staff, a good social atmosphere... Have been a few times since on short contracts and it has got worse every time. I have joined on a 6 week deal they offered me online as I cant run at the moment so thought I would use their pool. After getting passed the manager whose opening gambit to me was not " Hi how are you" biut .."how come youve got a six week deal when we don't do them"? WELL MATE YOU CLEARLY DO BECAUSE I HAVE ONE! And thank goodness it is only six weeks. WHen the pool is open (not often) it is not heated at all. The womens changing rooms blow out cold air and the gym blows out warm. THe cafe never staffed or closed altogether and between the staff is a really unprofessional kind of slap and tickle banter that is frankly excruciating. They will close soon Im sure but wish I had never wasted my money.

“Rip off”

I would not recommend anyone setting up a direct debit with this company as despite verbal and written cancelations they are still trying to take money from my account 8 months later.

“The worst fitness club in London”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/12/2014

I recently rejoined L A Fitness in Marylebone after a 5 year break. Nothing had changed. No visible investment. The same dirt on the light shades that had been there since my last visit 5 years ago. Ignorant staff. Broken machinery. There is nothing good about L A Fitness apart from convenience. They are money grabbers that have no interest in fitness or their members. The member turn over must be huge as they always have some poor soul out on the streets trying to find new people to rip off. L A Fitness can only be described as a bloody shambles if you have a choice to go somewhere else do it! I wouldn't recommend them to my worse enemy.

“This company convinced me to join based on ease of...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Humpobloke4 on 20/12/2014

This company convinced me to join based on ease of access. I live in one city, but work in another 100 miles away so I commute weekly between the two. The ease of access was guaranteed so they said. There were two gyms in my home town and one in the work location. I joined based on this selling promise. Within months all three gyms were closed. What makes it worse is that they knew even before I joined that all three were under threat but neglected to tell me. When I heard rumours I questioned them but Was reassured that the rumours were incorrect. They were in fact entirely accurate. I must now travel 45 minutes to my nearest LA gym. Cheaper to attend one of the local ones and pay the door fee. Liars, certainly. Disgraceful, beyond doubt. probably. Worth giving your money to? Don't. These people do not deserve it and are only interested in taking what they can from you with no intention of delivering on customer service. If the company goes une they would only have themselves to blame, and my only regret was that they got away with this behaviour for so long under a legal banner. If I handed £440 to a pickpocket in London I wouldn't feel more aggrieved. I have to give them one star to post. They are not even worth that.

“really disappointing end to an average experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Woody741 on 03/12/2014

March 2014 I joined the gym at Leadenhall Street, London as it had a pool & was very close to the office. Was informed on 2/12 that they were closing on 24/12 due to circumstances beyond their control. Rather than switch to another branch I decided to terminate, but they insisted that I give them a full calendar month's notice so have to pay for January & December even though they won't be open! Very opportunist & has left a bitter aftertaste... I'm sure there are better options out there.

“Horrible conditions,, dont join they wont let you leave!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by darnoc1965 on 01/12/2014

I joined this gym for various reasons none recommendations which on reflection I should have done, I went a few times and the showers and pool are were and still are disgusting, the gym is o.k but the health suite is vile and filthy. Most of the male showers are broken or scald you!, not just a little too hot they should be placed out of use as a child could be burnt, I got burnt on my second visit. I then emailed the manager and said why I wanted to cancel and am now being hassled by letters chasing my £36.00 they say I owe them. awful place and they soon turn nasty when you try and leave as obviously they are desperate at Maidstone or the male changing rooms and swimming area wouldnt be so disgusting.
