“The DC11 is not sold in Canada AFAIK. I bought mine...”

    ★★★☆☆

    written by on 22/07/2010

The DC11 is not sold in Canada AFAIK. I bought mine on eBay a few years ago because I was determined to have one. Overall I am both pleased and disappointed.

THE GOOD: machine is light, easy to carry with good handles, excellent suction, no bags to buy, easy to clean (if you don't like washing filters occasionally buy a bag vacuum), not difficult to clip the wand, hose and power head on for storage, easy to see when it needs emptying.

THE BAD: plastic collar on wand extension broke, plastic latch on wand broke, too much play in thumb latch meant it stopped working long before it broke, cord is only just long enough, cord return is weak, power head works only on short pile carpets and tends to clog if long hair is present, (fortunately it is made to come apart for cleaning and this takes only a minute or two, but again, those who are mechanically-challenged may find it a bit troublesome) the air port on the power head picks up dust and must be vacuumed off periodically by removing the power head and applying the open end of the wand to the filter on the air port.

Despite asking twice, Dyson will not ship me the parts needed to repair the wand - I have to buy a whole new one and pay shipping from the UK - well, I bought a new one direct from Dyson when I got the vacuum as it didn't come with one - how hard is it get three small parts and send them off? A wise company would send them free just to have a satisfied customer. When you know certain features of your product are prone to fail, it is wise to keep those parts available for replacement, even if your factory is overseas somewhere. Well, I told them I would be sharing my experience via the internet, and here I am! CAVEAT EMPTOR!
