Good Points: Good noise insulation extends MP3 player batery life
decent sound
Bad Points: Short life/poor build quality
General comments: Pretty good sound whilst the sony mdr-ex71's lasted. I rate the noise isolation quite highly, and found the buds very good at overcoming the horrendous techno background music at my Gym even at fairly modest volume from the player.
Unfortunately, I seem to be getting into the habit of writing reviews so long after purchasing items that they've already failed, so to complete the review - Right plug failed after 6ish months. I'd always kept the plugs clean, so wasn't anything as simple as wax plugging, just lousy build quality.

Excellent Sound Quality. Comfortable. Long cord length. The headphones can be detached from the cord (useful if you snag the cord)
Not supplied with a bag to store them when not in use.
The Sony MDR-EX71 aren't a cheap pair of headphones, but worth the money for the sound quality.- Read Guest's review (50 words)

1. Sound quality - Good bass response, decent to good trebles and mids. Blocks out external noise pretty well.2. Comfortableness - Extremely easy on my ears. I can wear for hours without noticing they are there.3. I like how it goes behind your head instead of dangling in the front. Great buy, worth the 30 dollars. Make sure to break them in.- Read Guest's review (71 words)

The EDR-EX71s have got good sound quality and ambient noise reduction. There are also very comfortable for the price and are nicely designed. However i found them not to be very hard wearing as one of the headphones stopped working after about 2 years. A good bargain in terms of sound quality but id advise spending a bit more if you want something that will last.- Read Random71's review (89 words)

If like me you're looking for cheap but good quality in-ear headphones... then the Sony MDR-EX71 is a good choice now that they're disappearing (i picked the last ones in the whole fnac spain via web) mdr-ex75 is also good choice (45 ' ret price now) but if you can find this ones on the cheap, I would bet that the transducer is pretty much the same. If you have enough money go further for some shure noise cancelling, but for me, studying (low cost everything please) are perfect.- Read Guest's review (190 words)

These headphones are nothing short of amazing value. The bass response is brilliant, they are comfortable and as they sit in ear really snugly, they block out ambient noise- great if you're on a 'plane or similar noisy environment.I have used them for many years, and only just replaced my first pair due to eventual wear and tear of daily use for 4 years. Pretty good for £20 I'd say.- Read Guest's review (86 words)

The Sony MDR-EX71 headphones are nice, I think I just got a defected pair. Shortly after i bought them the left earphone sound began to fade. it still plays but the sound is quieter than my right headphone.- Read Guest's review (50 words)

Just ordered a replacement pair of Sony MDR-EX71 headphones from Ebay at £16 which is great. But shop prices are double that. Main reason for buying again was sound quality - excellent bass and treble. Can't understand why others have complained about sound quality - perhaps they need to try a different size earpiece.
Cord length is an issue though. If you have your Ipod on your arm, these Sony's are great. In fact they are better than anything else on the market. However if you wear yo ...- Read ronmcdonald's review (190 words)

I had a pair of Creative in-ear phones before this... lost them on holiday though.
Bought the Sony MDR-EX71 to replace them ... I seem to need the volume of my Creative Zen up by at least 15-20% of what I felt normal on the other headphones.
I'm sure you can get better, cheaper.- Read Guest's review (58 words)

I have purchased three pairs of Sony's MDREX71 earbud headphones within the last year because I am a sucker. I kept coming back to this product because of the superior sound, but was consistently disappointed with one side completely going out. I love the bass and the clarity but something needs to be done about moisture control. I am convinced that due to my avid skateboarding, the sweat is somehow responsible for my loss of $150 worth of earbuds. While I don't consider myself a profuse pe ...- Read Guest's review (113 words)

Overall I would say a great value for money though due to sound quality and durability...of course who would complain if you can get them cheaper?
The sound quality on these earphones, from my experience so far, has been second to none. Not only are they comfortable to wear but they produce crystal clear sound. I would never have thought that ear phones could produce a bass sound that is on par with head phones...but I was wrong. Not only do these produce a great sound but they last forever whe ...- Read Guest's review (172 words)

My Sony MDR-EX71 headphones have a nice aesthetic design, especially in black. Fits in the ear well. The cord conducts noise into the left ear. This in my opinion is a design flaw and very noisy and annoying! The cord runs up to the left ear with a metal weight hanging off the left ear. The right ear wraps around my neck. Consequently, the left ear picks up every movement from my jacket or if I roll over in bed. The standard length lead is way too short. The extension lead makes it way too long. ...- Read Guest's review (96 words)
