I bought the DC 08 animal several years ago and found it to be excellent. My DC 08 had a 3yr guarantee. The large brush head packed in after 5years I contacted Dyson and they sent me a replacement immediately. I am still using the DC 08 and will do so until it gives up the ghost. It can be temperamental and needs some TLC. You have to empty the dust container and wash/clean filters regularly. (read more)

I have wanted a dyson for years but have never been able to afford one took the brave decision to buy one from ebay, Found this one a lady has owned since new and since it came out so a few years I tested it before agreeing to buy it and it is the best hoover I have owned. The suction works great don't know whats wrong with everyone else's maybe I just got lucky. I have a lab puppy in moult and two cats also in moult so hair everywhere but this works fantastic. I purchased this in 2003 and have washed the pre motor filter monthly over that time . The vacuun suck only dropped off during the last month Jan 2011. I replaced the pre motor filter and followed online instructions to dismantle and wash the radix assembly. This greatly improved things . I then replaced the post motor filter which resulted in a further marked improvement. It is now as good as new. The servicing has saved me a bomb in not having to replace the machine. Dyson ought to be... (read more)

Absolute pile of cr&p!! Worked well for about a week then the cution power declined rapidly.
If you have nothing better to do that waste half your life dimantling and cleaning hoovers that ...even after that don't function properly then get a Dyson.
How on earth do Dyson have the audacity to market these things with the 'No loss of suction' thing!! it must be some kind of sick joke. Now it randomly turns itself off.
BTW value for money in my opinion is Zero.
After nearly 2 years of... (read more)

I've had the Dyson DC08 animal vacuum cleaner for several years now and it's been fantastic. It was expensive when I bought it but the suction power has never dropped and has been by far the most powerful cleaner I have ever had. It is made of plastic but I have not had any trouble with it. As with all vacuum cleaners you have to make sure it doesn't clog up with dirt but if you look after it it will look after you. The hose does sometimes collapse when you twist it but that's due to... Wow what a waste of money a Dyson is. I spent over $500 on a DC08 only to have it stop working after just 2years. Just out of warranty of course. I sent it back to Dyson and was told it will cost $240 to repair. If i am to get it repaired it will have cost me over $740 for the unit. Don't buy one! (read more)

I bought a Dyson animal as I have a cat that leaves hair everywhere. When I first had it it was really good but now it is useless. Human hair and cotton etc gets tangled around the turbo head, the telescopic hose will suddenly collapse when using it and is very hard to unlock. The suction is now next to nothing and there seems no reason for it. I have been on my hands and knees using the stair tool attached to the hose but still it dosen't pick everything up. When the turbo brush was... (read more)

it's great if you have laminate floors - it served me well for a number of years until i moved into a carpeted home. if you have carpets, dont bother, i had to use a rubber brush to first lift the worst of the hair, then use the stair tool to scrape as much as i could from the carpet. it would take me a good hour to vacuum two rooms and the stairs and therewas always hair left.
the filter gets clogged very quickly and the spinning supposed-hair catcher stopped working pretty fast. ... (read more)

This Dyson has briiiant suction through the convoluted hose, until I put the head on-then no suction whatsoever. The head has been totally dismantled and cleaned but no difference at all. There are no blockages in the system,no splits in flexy parts and I am fast becoming irate with it.Does anyone have a solution? A complete waste of money, does not do what it says on the tin!! Don't buy a Dyson, mine has very poor suction I have to brush the dirt into a heap and then suction it up with the hose only, as the brush doesn't pick up anything. It is so frustrating . Never again will I buy a Dyson despite all their marketing and advertising. I am off to buy a vacuum at Lidl tomorrow. (read more)

Do not waste your money on this vacume, stops picking up pet hairs very soon after i purchased it, did contact dyson but to no avail, you spend more time trying to sort out why it will not pick up, rather that doing any cleaning with it. DO NOT BUY ONE.

After the Dyson DC08 Animal I am never buying another dyson again , buying a Henry know this is value for money and works and virtually indestructible. The cable rewind next to useless after 6months. I have loved my Dyson DC08 Animal and haven't had any mechanical failures. It is bulky though and I don't think I'd buy another. Mine cost £200 at the time I bought it brand new, probably back then it was worth the money but I would not spend that again on a Dyson. Overall, great vac but bad design. (read more)

Reading other reviews of the Dyson DC08 Animal I am relieved to see it's not just me that thinks it's useless! I have a dog and it only picks up the very loosest hair, grinding the rest into the carpet. I end up having to wash the filter, empty it, and clean out the turbo brush after virtually every use otherwise it just doesn't pick anything up. The turbo brush looks very impressive and is great when it is just cleaned, and works for about one use. After that the hair it picks up just... (read more)

We've had this model since it was first released and we've been quite impressed with it.
It's cumbersome when being carried but is very maneuverable when towing it around the floor. Considering it is supposed to be a design masterpiece the mechanism for holding the vacuum head onto the machine when not in use is terrible - the slightest knock and it just falls off. Another stupid design is the tool holder that resides on the hose. It gets in the way and was soon ditched.
The special head... (read more)

The Dyson DC 08 cost 450 euros here in Ireland. I would probebly have been better off buying two or three cheaper vacumes. Prior to this machine I owned a Nilfisk GS 90. It was 10 years old and had been refurbished, it took a few passes to clean, but it never failed to do so. (read more)

This is our second Dyson. The first provided valuable service but was rather flimsy and failed after 5 years extensive use. The new Dyson, looks very different. It is stylish and well constructed in a way that the DC05 just wasn't. Additionally, it provides the same strong suction, revealing dirt in the pile that many other cleaners fail to manage.
However, that is not to say that it has no faults. Its very heavy, and awkward design faults make ease of use problematic. For example, why do... (read more)

I have been really disappointed with this Dyson DCO8 Animal. I bought it after lots of research but have found it to be poor quality - the main vacuum head does not collect hair and I spent a year cleaning carpets with a stair head piece, which unsurprisingly has now broken. Customer service was unhelpful as they only wanted to sell me further parts. (read more)

This vacuum cleaner has been designed by men for men. James Dyson's technology cannot be faulted. When new, these machines are superb, look stylish (OK that's a question of taste), and it really does provide excellent suction, and the Dyson DC08 Animal vacuum cleaner is excellent for sucking up animal hair. But you must read the instructions (e.g. fail to pull the cord out beyond the red mark and the machine electrics will cut out). Note that it has great suction, but it is almost impossible... The Dyson DC08 TW Animal vacuum cleaner is made to look like the best cylinder Dyson you can get in the shops. It always seems to have the most advertisements around it, and usually has quite a lot of special offers on it too. The features upon examination seem exceptional - wrapping for storage, turbine and mini-turbine head for exceptional cleaning, lifetime filters (including HEPA); it looked amazing! So a foolish £299 was spent.
Assembling the cleaner was easy. We didn't bother wrapping... (read more)

I have owned a Dyson DC08 Animal for 18 months. It was good for the first 2 weeks but then the suction became comparable to a small child sucking through a straw. It has been serviced, and had its 'lifetime' filters changed twice. Hoovering with this model involves spending an hour on your hands and knees picking up all the bits it has missed. I thought I had just got a lemon but have since spoken to other people with Dysons who also feel totally ripped off. It has just packed up after... (read more)

The "Animal" was expensive. You only get what you pay for after all. Don't you? The machine picked up well. No problem there. The dogs hairs wrapped around the turbo brush, so had to be pulled off after each use. After a few months, the popping noise started. Each time I would turn the machine off and then restart it. As soon as the head touched the floor, it would make the popping noise again, and lost suction.
The man at the careline centre was great, and very patient. He sent me... (read more)

After having used the Dyson DC08 Animal on hardwood floors, laminate, carpets, rugs and stairs I can definitely say it DOES pick up dirt off the floor. And very effectively. I don't know how that other reviewer was using this animal....obviously not as a vacuum cleaner.
The turbo brush head pivots nicely and stays on the floor regardless of the relative angle of the telescopic attachment. You can set the brush bar to spin (for carpets) or not spin (for hardwood floors), and you can drop the... (read more)

The reviews I read indicated that this Dyson DC08 Animal would be a great machine, but apparently I got a lemon. This machine simply didn't pick anything up. Not from a bare floor. Not from a carpet. Not despite three adults using it, or attempting to. It wouldn't be worth it at half the price. Got another brand at 1/4 the cost, and it's been working great! (read more)
