I bought this Morphy Richards 48280 Bread Maker 2 Years Ago and It Lasted 3 Years and the gear system started making a funny noise then the paddle would not turn round and eventually it would not turn at all and Morphy Richardssaid no parts available so i had to scrap it so i will not buy morphy richards as you cant buy spare parts but it did produce good bread while it lasted

Easy to use, but does not last.
The motor on my first model burnt out after 16 months, within the two year guarantee period. Morphy Richards replaced it with a brand new model, no quibbles. But the replacement has now suffered the same problem after 16 months and I am now out of the original guarantee. A shame, because the bread has been excellent and it is easy to use.

Bought the machine (Fast Bake Breadmaker) 9 months ago. had a number of 'failures' at making wholemeal bread but put it down to lack of pratice.
Last week the thing would not heat so two full loads of ingredients wasted. Morphy Richards don't want to know. Admit that sometimes components fail to work but refuse to compensate or replace, Have offered me a 10% discount off a new machine.
I told them that they were morally obliged to replace or repair but they simply brushed off such a suggestion.
Customer service at its worst!
As a pensioner, I cannot afford to subsidise large, money-grabbing companies. Shame on them.
DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE

This breadmaker is useless. The paddle spindle has broken already after a year, but before that, the results were hit and miss, despite following the instructions carefully. Ingredients for some of the breads aren't too healthy either. Lots of sugar, milk powder and sunflower oil!
Over-all each loaf has cost us about £4 to make bearing in mind the number of loaves we made until the spindle broke. I think we'll buy a panasonic next time.

My husband bought me this machine for Christmas. It was used every day from Boxing day onwards and stopped working on 4 January. Not even a full fortnight!
My husband never keeps receipts and boxes for stuff so consequently the only avenue of return was to contact Morphy Richards. The silver sticker which was meant to have a serial number on was somehow missing from my machine so they would not replace it.
Fortunately it was paid for by credit card and so it is being returned to Argos for a card refund. They have been very good about it,
In the short time it was working we tried many of the recipes which came with the machine. The booklet makes you make sure you use the exact proportions in their recipes, going on about how they had been developed for THIS machine alone etc.
Most of the loaves it makes are heavy and soggy in the middle. The crust does not brown up enough and the supposed Fastbake didn't work properly. To make that recipe edible you have to put it onto the extrabake setting and cook it for at least another half hour!
The french bread recipe had nowhere near enough fluid, none of the ingredients bound into dough at all.
None of the recipes rose enough so the bread has a semi-unleavened taste and texture, which is fine if that is the effect you're after! The "troubleshooting" guide in the back is all about user blame. YOU didn't measure the ingredients properly. YOU had the water too hot or too cold. YOU did something wrong to make the loaf or machine fail. Nothing at all to do with the machine being completely useless!
In all, we probably had about 5 loaves worth of ingredients completely wasted on loaves that were inedible or when the machine stopped working.
Phoning Morphy Richards was a poor and expensive machine and I was kept on hold for 25 minutes before they answered. Then it was MY fault the machine had no serial number on it and they basically refused to be of any further assistance once they had ascertained that "fact"!
Fortunately when I phoned Argos and said they could either refund the card or we ask the bank for a chargeback, they have been very helpful. Sadly though in going through all this I discover Argos sells the machine for £20 more than most other places so we'll be getting a refund and spending the money better elsewhere.

This Morphy Richards 48280 broke down after 6 months use. Breadpan stuck in the machine. Noisy, difficult to remove spatula from bread.

Tried very hard to bake a good loaf and failed on many tries. Loaves were small and flat, very displeased.

I replaced my first one as the non-stick coating peeled off within four months. I was extremely carefully with the replacement, oiling it before every use. It lasted just over a week before the coating started to wear off, causing the ingredients to stick to the pan which produced very odd swirly patterning on the loaves. I am getting a full refund on it tomorrow and investing it in a better quality machine.

On loaf number 4 the blade seemed to have a problem turning, and then the motor started making a clonking noise.
I returned the Morphy Richards 48280 breadmaker to the shop today, and I got a replacement. I tried making some dough (not even baking anything), and when I turned out the dough the fixed part of the rotor blade underneath fell off. It had been welded to the bucket, but the metal to metal bond failed totally. I will return again tomorrow (if they believe me). I am undecided what to do next, and I am tempted to change to another brand.

Commiserations vik...if it's of any use to you, I have a friend who makes all my bread on a Hinari HB161. This machine has been in regular use for almost three years now, and it has never given any trouble whatsoever. It seems a very robust device, and bakes delicious bread which no commercial stuff can approach, let alone equal.

I have had the morphy richards fast bake bread-maker for 2 years and although I have made lots of bread very successfully I had a similar problem of the 'paddle' welding itself to the bucket. I ended up not removing the paddle when I washed it and baked lots more bread but in the end it also failed completely. This may be a design fault if other people have experienced this problem. Maybe I wont buy a Morphy richards one next time!

I wouldn't buy another Morphy Richards 48280 breadmaker.
The loaves are of varying quality, and wholemeal or rye bread is a disaster every time.

Owned a different make of breadmaker prior to the Morphy Richards and had no failures in over 2 years. After 2 months I have still to produce a loaf that hasn't collapsed and had a poor texture. Am now making adjustments to 1 recipe only with customer service assistance. What about all the others? I have no confidence in the machine and regret buying it.

I bought the Morphy Richards 48280 to replace a faulty machine [different manufacturer]and now regret it. This machine has a loose mixing paddle "You must remember to dig this out before slicing the loaf". [My previouse machine had a fixed paddle.] The outside of the loaf was very well done even though set on the lightest setting and undercooked on the bottom inside edge. The recipes were poor using cupfulls of flour and not ounces or grammes. A very poor loaf.

Salchicha's Response to Supersteve2444's Review

Too late to help Supersteve2444, but for anyone else ...
Morphy Richards don't sell parts, and security screws are used to deter disassembly, but parts are available elsewhere. The 4828x series has the same parts as the Cookworks XBM1038 and Sunbeam, Donlim and other brands. Belts, pulleys, drive fork and base fork seat can be obtained at Aliexpress. Wear in the base fork seat, which can result in the paddle not rotating, can be repaired by replacing the bronze bush for just a couple of pounds.
