“waste of time”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/09/2015

Still waiting for a reply back from an incident that happened over a month ago!! You pay for your child over 95cm but nearly everything is for over 100cm. Hardly any staff around to go on rides, you have to go round asking and run by 'kids'. Facilities are dirty. :-(

“Rip off!”

written by MrCamm on 01/01/2015

My family of 4 attended, the park was 95% closed, no visual or verbal notices still charged full price. There was only two rides open and staffed, 3 mazes and a creepy critters shed. When went for a refund I was told that no refunds were given but I could have a complementary ticket for one person. I emailed the office manager and waiting for a reply. My next move is to contact sponsors, proprietor and the Ombudsman regarding their no refund policy. DO NOT ATTEND THIS PARK!

“honest opinion”

★☆☆☆☆

written by CarleighBishop on 08/05/2014

I have just returned from Twin Lakes and feel I owe them an apology for my apparently unreasonable high standards. I expected some element of fun and enjoyment for the almost £60 I handed over. Here is what I got: The day started with me deciding that the kids would quite like an ice cream. I promised them one and nipped to the nearby 'Cafe Nero' to purchase the ice creams. I arrived in the cafe and started my 20 minute wait. Now, I do not mind waiting 20 mins for in a que or similar structure but this was just me, alone in the cafe and wondering what was going on. I eventually worked out that I had been foolish and mistaken the fact that all the lights were on to mean the place was open! After seeing the empty till drawer hanging out, I worked out it was not. I returned to my children and explained my mistake. Luckily, it did not matter as they had spotted an ice cream sign by a kiosk a short walk away! We approached the kiosk and discovered that it was closed! 'Never Mind' I told the kids. 'They're is sure to be another one close by!' They're was! and that was closed too! Then we passed a closed ice cream parlour and a closed Grill before I realized stupidity! This was clearly the 'Closed Shop Trail' that we had been walking. The trail was not listed on the map! Lucky we found it! Eventually, we headed back toward a large warehouse looking building(our eyes must have been poor as we could not see any sign posts to aid us in our navigation) and entered into near darkness! We had found the soft play zone! Only this was no normal soft play zone! This was the Worlds first soft AND HARD playzone! We took our shoes off and navigated the mazes of soft floors, hard stairs and routes blocked by drilled on boards of MDF! We managed to avoid the 'Closed' slides whilst sympathising with how difficult it must be to keep a slide working. I mean, I could not begin to understand the technical aspects involved with gravity and sliding. Complex stuff that. We made our way out, took a few moments to clean the crumbs of ready salted crisps that we had amassed on our socks off and headed to Cafe Nero for a coffee, sure that it would now be open! We stood for 10 mins before spotting somebody in a Twinlakes uniform. Worried that I had committed my earlier mistake again, I asked if anyone was working the cafe as we would like a coffee. "The kitchen staff are probably manning the rides" she said... 'OF COURSE THEY ARE SHANE!' I thought, how stupid of me. I had forgotten all about the times I had been doing kitchen work and had to pop out to operate the Nemesis in between cooking chips or blasted Space Mountain off just before serving coffee. Luckily though, all was not lost! This lady informed us that she was a toilet attendant and could "probably" make our coffees if she washes her hands first and can read the buttons as she had forgot her glasses. Its a good job we didnt want to order something from your menu such as chips, chips, chips, chips or chips or we would have been in trouble! Then began an epic battle. One that would last minutes and be embarrassing for all involved. The battle between hard sighted toilet cleaner and basic coffee machine. Luckily, this woman did try her best for us and won the battle. We appreciate her efforts and think that with some training, she could become a fine coffee warrior. After this, we headed to the 'rides'. Now, this is where my high standards kick in. I had seen the website and expected some form of fun. Unfortunately, what was presented was a poor collection of unloved, mistreated and barely working fairground knock offs. The buffalo coaster however was a sight. It seemed to be operated by the Worlds most popular man! I say this as children, everywhere were standing by different rides and just staring at him. It seemed to be in hope, like they were waiting for him... I then realised this man must be extremely amazing as he had sole responsibility for 5 rides! Like some God of Childrens hopes, he decides who rides what and when! (Well, until he is on gardening rota in an hour anyway) I discovered this theme across the whole park, much different to the "1 attendant to 1 ride" method in use at every other place ever. I can see the money this saves has been spent on this years Halloween decorations have been put up 6 months early. I mean, they can not be from last year still? No? the year before? Okay. After getting bored with competing with groups of children for a go on something, we took the train to the other side of the park. We chugged off down a line littered with the petals of thousands of dead flowers, dirty ponds and wasteland before approaching a truly unique sight... The Zip lines with no zip lines. Simply 2 platforms, facing each other, no longer suitable for the zipping of a line. We headed to the Ice rink next and was told it was up some stairs. We managed this bit but failed at the locked door we found at the top. We were not sure whether it was closed or this attraction was another 'Sit and wait, sit and wait, sit and wait and then give up" attraction so we left. We approached the excalibur adventure zone. On the way, we passed a the dungeon attraction... Spotting the change to have an experience on something that we would not have to wait for ages to enjoy, we entered... Now, I will admit that I am new to dungeons. never been one (dungeons and dragons all those years ago excluded) and expected them to be scary places. Not too scary in a kids park, but fun kinda scary. I was wrong and am glad Twinlakes have shown me that dungeons are simply pitch black, MDF mazes with cheap rugs hanging from the roof every so often. I also did not know thatthey are full of people complaining about being ripped off and poor quality attractions! Hopefully, it will be in a pub quiz sometime... The kids entered the western Village but ungratefully, the souvenier splinters they left with were not so welcome. They have been spoken to about their attitude. I do have to say, the way they have managed to recreate the wild west west, complete with Chav graffiti, coca cola cans and nailed down plastic bottles is fantastic and not to be missed! The final act was a good game of "Chase the 20P piece across the floor after every grabber machine spits it out" in the arcade before concluding that this was terrible and deciding to leave. The best part of the day was seeing the peacocks. The worst part of the day was knowing that for what it had cost, I could have bought a peacock. Congratulations Twinlakes on creating a 'Gold' image and charging a Gold price before delivering a lump of coal product. Your marketing team should have a statue erected in the park in their honour, then you could charge people to see it? (Pay Per Vew only. No season ticket holders, fun seekers or happiness allowed.

“dirty, unsafe and amateurish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by andrewredmond on 31/07/2013

Twinlakes in Melton Mowbray is terrible. I took my 3 year old for a day out there recently and after paying a high price to get in was disgusted by what I found. The facilities are dirty, rides are unsafe and in need of repair, and hordes of chavs roam the park, swearing at their kids and being aggressive when attempting to get on the rides. The staff are clueless and rude, nothing is signposted, and the food is slop. Hell on earth was not what I had in mind for a day out.

We attempted to use the online system to book and after 3 hours of waiting still no response. Upon arrival we were met by rather stressed out staff and they kept serving others before serving us. We were then told that our 4 year old who is fairly tall had to pay adult price. We were fairly shocked. The jubilee day was advertised as a celebration. Not One flag or reference to the diamond jubilee any where. Our 4 year old was asked to move out of the under 6 play area because she could damage other children which upset her. Long ques food that taste like cardboard and nothing being cheap. Never again thank you x

“TWINLAKE PARK -WORST customer service I have EVER...”

DO NOT GO TO TWIN LAKES AND EXPECT A GOOD SERVICE - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We have been a few times at Twin Lakes (which had been ok but very expensive), but not had an encounter with the management, reception or supervisers as we did yesterday (Sunday 18/12/2011). We had just joined TWINLAKE PARK with an annual pass and paid £250 for the familly. They said on the night when we joined - We need some pictures but we dont have the camera today so just bring some next time or something, its fine\" - I walked out with a tiny receipt and nothing else no passes, nothing. Yesterday we decided to go for a couple of hours but we were asked for passes. I explained that their camera had not been working but their policy is THE CUSTOMER HAS TO PROVIDE PICTURES OR THEY HAVE TO PAY AGAIN. So we had to pay and go inside the park and get pictures done and they would refund us. WRONG - The photo booth didn't work. DESPITE THAT THEY WOULDN'T REFUND US. The SUPERVISOR came down and she said the same things that they had to charge us as it was their policy (I was thinking by this point Hitler had some funny policies also but clearly not of the right kind ) The MANAGER came down at last and gues what she suggested - GO DOWN AT TESCOS AND GET THE PICTURES DONE!!!! AFTER AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE AND UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT I HAD TO CANCEL MY MEBERSHIP AND I SHALL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE NEITHER DO I RECOMMNEND ANYONE ELSE TO GO ESPECIALLY HAVING READ HOW THEY TREATED DISABLED PEOPLE ON THE REVIEWS BELOW. SAVE YOURSELF A FORTUNE AND AN IMMINENT AWFUL EXPERIENCE. HAVE FUN ELSWERE. TWIN LAKES IS A MONEYGRABBING ORGANISATION WITHOUT ANY ETHICS OR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I have an annual pass, and it does state clearly that you need to bring photos in with you on your next visit. And from what you have typed, they did tell you this also at the time. This review has not helped in any way to describe the park, rides, activities or the children experience.

I'd beg to differ with the Guest's comment here.
This is exactly what people look for - real experiences, not just what rides & activities there are. The ride information is on their website.
Here people enxchange their own experiences & usually its the adults and not the children.
Also strange that you have an annual pass and yet look at Twinlake Reviews & also in the process engage and put down valid reviews!

“awful place”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 24/08/2011

It was shabby and run down. Everything needed painting and the new things were only half painted. The rides are pitiful, especially the pirate boat ride. The caterpillar ride is only allowed to be half filled with people! There are signs in the play areas saying no running, and the staff are quick to shout at the kids in the indoor soft play to stop running. The leaflet makes it look fantastic, but it isn't. Needs a lot of work and tidying up. Sundown is much better, so is Gullivers. A waste of money.

I totaly agree with your comments. Why some people rave about this place is beyond me.

Its not even good value for money.

Requires a complete overhall, staff as well.

It cost nearly 50 quid for the four of us(one a toddler),half the rides were closed and the ones that were open my son (the toddler) couldnt go on most them. We went to Gullivers in Matlock the week before and there was loads more for the younger children to do aswell as adults and older children. Feel completely ripped off.

Went to the park and was shocked at how much the staff just glared at me. One person opperating the train ride even said to me where are yuor parents and we just said we are parents! Yh I am only 25 and small for my age but I was objective to answer the rude man.
After that we went into this big play area to be told NO RUNNING! yet my little boy wasnt allowed in! How stupid. Would not reccomend this park and if you are a young parent- the staff GLARE at you! Including the managers after we reported the EVIL GLARE.
NEVER GO THERE as they dont even open all the rides. Its a WASTE OFF SPACE

It was very expensive for whats there £11.75 each. My 3 year old son was bored after an hour. Most rides were not working and you had to find someone to open them. The staff around the park were friendly, but when I went to ask about something at reception I found them very rude and abrupt. most of the outdoor play equipment was past its best (rusty) and dangerous.

This is a extremely predudice park with ultimalty the rudest staff, Descriminating aganist the gay minority..
The website does not disclose that the child must be under 14 to enter the park and that you must have a child to enter the park..The receptionist when you arrive do not hesitate to make you feel and look STUPID.As apparantly this is viewed on the website which has been under maintenance for a while..
My personal experiance has left me feeling disgusted..I will view my concerns to whomever i can to avoid anyone from feeling the way we did...

i have never met such a friendly group of people as those at twinlakes, i myself am gay, and do not i any way feel victomised at twinlakes, im not entirely sure how this could be possible. The park was clean and tidy. The staff were very knowledgable and helpfull. When my 8 year old son went for a wander, the staff did all they could to find him safe and sound. My children love visiting the park especially the farm, we went yesterday and they have baby meerkats!

We had several complaints and emailed the company. I had a reply after about a month with some very poor excuses. I emailed again, but they couldn't even be bothered to reply.

Utter rip off, dont bother going unless you want to waste your money.

It is certainly not geared up for small children, even though at two years old my child was charged the same price as an adult. The train is so slow that you can walk quicker and the boats weren't operational on the day.

The website has contradictory information on childrens height, but they had an excuse for that too.

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/08/2009

Twin Lakes Leisure Park is seriously over priced, even though my 2 year old daughter was too short to go on most of the rides, she was still charged at FULL adult/child price.

Some of the the rides/activities weren't open and the wait for the train was a joke.

It cost £54.95, (£10.99 each for 4 adults + 2.5 year old), at £5 it would have been pushing it to be worth the money.

The website is misleading too as this states 95cm height for a child to be chargeable, yet when we got there it was 92cm. My daughter is 93cm!!

Updated Review
Mhttp://www.reviewcentre.com/review519167.html
General Comments
Twinlakes Adventure Park, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, and Disability Discrimination.
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported me in this. I ' m especially touched by the families who are boycotting Twinlakes and other places owned by BB&B Leisure Parks LTD [which also includes Wheelgate Park, Farnsfield nr Mansfield and Woodlands Leisure Park, Blackawton, Devon,] and even the children themselves who can see right from wrong.
As a young adult with autism I visited twinlakes in 2005 with two friends/carers. Although the Twinlake's leaflet states that adults without children are not allowed into Twinlakes we were led to understand that this rule did not apply to me because I have special needs and that we would be able to visit again. They seemed very accommodating which is now puzzling considering what was to come. We made a return visit in 2007 which had to be a last minute decision. We were shocked and very upset to find that people with special needs that were not accompanied by children were not allowed into Twinlakes, even though I had brought proof of my disability. It was a quiet school day and we were told that the Directors were on site but the staff seemed reluctant to approach them for reasons that became clearer to me later. Some individuals with autism and some other special needs have in many ways the same needs as children so it is extremely distressing to be shut out of these facilities when there are so few other options open. This kind of play is needed for many aspects of development and emotional wellbeing and also some people have missed out as children. Many adult pursuits are unsuitable and totally unappealing for some of us and certain difficulties make it virtually impossible to access many leisure interests that most people take for granted. We were told that Twinlakes is for families with children; this discriminates against people who are not part of a family and who cannot have children. Adults are able to enjoy the play equipment which are adult size with their children. It is illogical that if I was to visit Twinlakes accompanied by a child rather than a responsible carer then I may be allowed in when that would not be in anyone's best interest. Other adventure play facilities do not have policies like this and some organisations have changed rules like this when have been made aware of situations like mine.
I wrote a polite letter addressed to the proprietor at Twinlakes highlighting these issues and appealing to them to change their policy, after 6 months of trying to make contact and having to send a second copy I received a reply from an office manager which did not address any of the issues and simply restated their rules, saying these rules are dictated by their Board of Directors. So I wrote to the Board of Directors at their head office in Devon that I would be grateful if the people who make the policies read it and I also suggested they consider a compromise such as allowing individuals with carers to use Twin Lakes at quieter times, or even limit the numbers of adults visiting at a time. Neither myself, or my supporters can find a logical explanation for this policy having researched all possibilities. Again I heard nothing, so 'Speaking Up For Action'(SUFA), a campaign group for people with disabilities telephoned the Board of Directors who seemed unhelpful, uninterested, and evasive and they said that the Government had dictated this policy. But now having researched this, and having sent this review to relevant sources this appears untrue, as it does not apply to all adventure parks, but applies to ones owned by BB&B Leisure Parks LTD. Sufa also emailed my review twice to the Board of Directors, asking for a comment but received no response.
We sought legal advice and the only way to find out if I have a case against them is to actually take legal action, but this must be done within six months of the incident date.
Also, I would not want to do this as it would be to traumatic especially if the outcome was negative for me, and even if I did win a case I would not want any involment with people who are capable of this kind of discrimination. If a person with a disability finds it impossible or unreasonably difficult to access a service, the service provider has a duty to make reasonable ajustments. If they do not make these ajustments the person can consider taking further action.
However, in a case like this, a person who ' s disability effects their mental age and IQ, such as someone with more profound learning disabilities and an IQ below 70 may stand a better chance of winning a case.
This has been an exhausting and drawn out process for me.
Unethical policies like this effectively bar people with disabilities, whether direct or indirect, legal or illegal, if businesses like this thrive it creates a cruel and very unwelcoming world for us.

I thought Twin Lakes Leisure Park was over priced for what there is there, £11 for children and adults. It may be set in 70 acre's but is could easy fit into half that, everything is spread out to make it look bigger.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I visited Twin Lakes Leisure Park with my wife mainly to visit the farm. As we did not have any children with us - we were refused admission. The park do not allow adult only groups, and this applies to couples. I could undertstand if we were a group of 20-something youths but we are a married couple just wanting a day out in the sun. After driving for more than an hour to reach the park, being turned away at the gate is very annoying. Can the park really afford to turn away custom?

At Melton Mowbray, Twin Lakes Leisure Park I found the staff to be rude and unhelpful. As a season ticket holder, which i won't be renewing, i feel the park is very shoddily run and they don't seem to make the same efforts for their attractions as other theme parks, yet they charge the same admission, if not more. Paths and car parks are not tarmaced which is most unsuitable for families with pushchairs.
