“This was our first visit to the Tenerife Royal Gardens...”

★★★★☆

written by bexsooty on 23/08/2009

This was our first visit to the Tenerife Royal Gardens and having read some poor reviews prior to departure we were very pleasantly surprised. You really could not wish for a better location; virtually on the beach with plently of restaurants, shops and bars on the doorstep. Yes our room was one of the older ones yet to be refurbished but it had everything we needed and the cleaner was superb! One member of the reception staff was a bit on the surly side but all the others were very friendly and helpful (and patient when we lost a safe key!) The pool and surrounding sunbathing area was one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of - no overcrowding even in August; it was sufficiently large even to have my children out of earshot whilst relaxing in the sun. Finally the poolside bar serves good food at reasonable prices and the staff are really friendly too. If we had been allocated a refurbished room with full airconditioning and some evening entertainment (especially for young children) this would definitely be verging on a 5 star resort. But even in an old room albeit clean no one could possibly have justifiable reason to complain. A really great time and would definitely recommend.

Are you going this year? I believe the resort is staying functional until at least xmas..after that ,who knows? There are currently 30 apartments for sale and if all these are sold the new owners will want to refurbish them, which means the place will look and sound like a building sight. If there is no money coming in to pay for the upkeep of the resort it will soon look shabby. We are told that S.E.F.S will not be asking for our next years maintenance.Where does that leave us..we have not as yet been offered any alternative.Might as well get used to it....TIMESHARE OWNERS HAVE NO RIGHTS.

“The pool bar has recently re-opened, as at August...”

★★★★☆

written by on 24/02/2008

The pool bar has recently re-opened, as at August 2007, and is run by experienced staff and were re-decorating it to include a tv room. The apartments are beginning to be refurbished through the resort but due to the installation of new water pipes, this has been delayed.
The pool area continues to be maintained well and the maid service provided is always excellent with the staff there being in residence over a long period.
The check in has improved but as change over day is mainly Fridays, long queues do form at the reception at 10am when everyone has to leave their apartments.
If they sped up their renovation program this would improve the resort as apartments not re-decorated are looking extremely tired, although liveable.

written by PeteA on 18/10/2007

Now that the time share touts have almost disappeared the place is much better. Beware of the "you have won the scratch card" brigade, they can erode your holiday away if you are not careful. Overall we like the place, my son who is now 18 loves to go. My wife likes to go because the apartment has been in the family for some 20 years or so and yes she has been every year, including this year, we leave tomorrow morning. If renting an appartment be careful not to get one of the studio appartments on the front, they are not secure and lots of people around at all times. ALSO Rent a safe they are cheap but well worth it in the long run.

I like the fact that I know exactly which is my apartment when I arrive and just tend to use the week to recharge our batteries as it is not the kind of holiday for learning the culture! Location is great especially now all the new shops have been built opposite Compostela Beach, plenty of good restaurants for all tastes and pockets..

Very disappointed! Exchanged our 5* timeshare in Lake District with Interval International for a resort that barely scrapes 2*. The resort is OK for a home from home feel, if you like tattooists touting for business against an all-pervading smell of sewage. We will not be returning Tenerife Royal Gardens or recommending it to anyone.

We have been going for 4 years now, thought about selling but in the end you will not find a cleaner, more perfect location in Tenerife. In the end, the room is for washing and sleeping in. If you can't find something to do that suits all tastes, in this area, you should not be going. See you next year.

★★★★☆

written by janeymates on 02/01/2007

This complex is in need of an overhaul, and we were told that there is a refurbishment programme for the next 18 months, concentrating on the B and C units first. They appeared to be putting new water pipes in when we were there. The apartment we stayed in at the Royal Gardens needs a good update, but when it is just a place to sleep for one week, and it was clean with almost all the functions/equipment you needed (take a corkscrew if you like a glass of wine), what do you really need? The location makes up for these bad points, and the size of the balcony makes enjoying breakfast and drinks very pleasant and relaxing. We will return.

“I have been going to Tenerife Royal Gardens for the...”

★★★☆☆

written by Hedon white on 01/01/2007

I have been going to Tenerife Royal Gardens for the last 14 years or so as I have a one week time share for a studio. I have kept going back as the place was excellent and the position just perfect. In the last 2 or three years the apartments have become very worn and the equipment very tired, they are badly in need of a major revamp which we are told is ongoing. The last apartment we stayed in (not our week so not our own) was second floor in C block and the interior was shabby in the extreme, although the pool area was kept in excellent condition. As someone else has stated you need to avoid the apartments above the bars/restaurants on the side facing the sea (A block) as the effluent smell can be very bad from the sewage building opposite(I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole).
The Guiness bar is poor, don't use it for anything other than a quick drink. The pool bar has gone sadly, I used to like this one.
As long as they revamp the apartments as promised then I will continue to go, I cannot think there are many better placed.

“We arrived at the Tenerife Royal Gardens in Playa De...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by Samyelle on 20/10/2006

We arrived at the Tenerife Royal Gardens in Playa De Las Americas on Friday 6th in the early afternoon. The queues where huge and just kept growing. This complex is well aware that arrivals are on Tuesday's and Friday's, and they should employ more staff on these days to help with this! We spent the first four hours of our holiday trying to check-in. Deposits for everything: Towels, Fans, Extra Key, Safe and even the TV Remote! It appears that all they are interested in is how to get more money from you, as some of these 'deposits' are part payment, and the reception staff have little understanding of English.

The apartment was small, but we didn't mind this, as to us it was only somewhere 'SAFE' to sleep. There were maybe five plug sockets in the entire apartment, and they were all hidden quite well, behind a bed or sideboard, or in the bathroom. Two were in plain sight, one on the kitchen area worktop and the other completely uselessly in the hall space away from everything! Our apartment was A06, on the first floor above a restaurant called 'Pasta & Vino'; noise was not a real problem until the builders started work on the Tuesday. The main problem all week was the smell of sewage that drifted passed, approximately every half an hour, and it was stomach churning, so enjoying the veranda was difficult and very public, as the balcony was easily viewed from the main access to the beach.

The facilities in the complex were pitiful, most of the sun loungers by the pool were broken, and cockroaches lived happily beside it. My friend told me that there used to be a poolside bar, but this had been closed. The closest place for refreshment was 'McGuiness Bar', or the dark shop beneath both attached to the apartment, but not linked in any way. 'McGuiness Bar' - Sounds Irish doesn't it! Owned by an Italian and a Brit, this is the worse excuse for an Irish Bar I have ever come across! Overpriced drinks and repetitive entertainment, and they advertise 'Potato Bread' on their menu and serve you up hash browns. Hailing from Ireland myself, I was not impressed!

On Sunday morning we woke to find that someone had climbed the balcony and stolen three bags from the apartment while we slept. We informed the reception and asked them to change the lock, as one of the keys had been taken in the burglary, they were happy to do this (for a fee) and maintenance arrived about an hour later. You would think that the company would have been helpful after discovering that guests had been robbed. No such luck or consideration. They told us that we must go to the police station to report it. Upon arriving at the police station we found this to be bad advice!

The procedure in Tenerife is that you must phone a central number and dictate the events, giving personal details to an officer. Then go to the police station to collect the report. This report is in Spanish and you are made to wait hours to retrieve it. So Sunday was completely wasted, what with sitting in a foreign police station for 4 - 5 hours, phone calls trying to cancel credit cards and informing the airline about lost tickets.

The Island is nice though, and if you find different accommodation I'm sure that you will enjoy it! We recommend that you try 'The Greek Corner' restaurant situated in the Veronica's area near the casino. They were very friendly, and the food was fantastic!

Once the Tenerife Royal Gardens has finished being refurbished I am sure it could well try for the 4* label, which I think they are striving for! at the moment maybe a 2-3*. We had a few problems but the management were superb, very helpful and we were satisfied. Once the refurb is done we would gladly go back again. Superb location, with excellent restaurants nearby, and a beautiful beach across the road.

Tenerife Royal Gardens was lovely I cannot say anything about it that would put anyone off. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. I stayed in a time share apartment so I never had room service however I saw them attending other people's apartments everyday (even on Xmas day). The area is lovely and in good distance to everything.

All in all, i would go back. Tenerife Royal Gardens is very well kept with daily towel change and room cleaned each day. Based in a very good location with beaches right out the front of the hotel. Brilliant little pub called harlequins underneath the hotel. We were told that our bus could not make it down the road to drop us off outside the hotel so we had to walk about 250 - 300 mts with suitcases.

written by pilko on 22/08/2004

I have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Tenerife Royal Gardens where we rented a private apartment. After reading a couple of bad reviews on the complex I was quite concerned at what I would find. The complex is being revamped and painted and one side of the pool has recently been re-tiled. For a complex open 52 weeks a year you have got to expect some down sides. I have two children aged 11 and 9 and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves both in the complex pool, the very close by beach and also entertainment provided by the bars which surround the area. A great holiday was had by all
