Good Points: Gas mileage. carries 2 people well. great price.

Bad Points: needs a 6 gallon gas tank.

General comments: I am not very large, but I can handle the v-star very well! It is well made and all that needs to be done is fuel injection and liquid cooling!

Yamaha seem to have changed the gear box ratio from 2007 1100 to 2008 1100. That is why many owners say the 08 needs another gear. If you drive an 07 you will notice the difference immediately. Nice going Yamaha. Your change is for the worse.

The Yamaha V Star is my first ever motorcycle. And let me tell you. It gets stares and compliments everywhere I go. It is a 1100 Yamaha V-star classic. It has nice power, and is a very solid highway machine. As for the unusual sounds. I really don ' t have anything to compare it to, but this machine rumbles pretty well for a stock machine with a stock exhaust. I absolutely love it. And yes it most definitely could use a 6th ear. This is my first bike. I learned to ride on this thing. And it is s ...

I've looked for a good Silverado 1100 for months and I love this one so far. I may need to change to a taller windshield.

Brand new 2008, its my first v twin so thats probably why I'm not happy with the power and the ride. And it definetly needs a 6th gear.

After 20,000 miles of riding in two years, the machined bolt at the end of the main drive shaft sheared off resulting in $2,800 dollars in repair. This shouldn't happen since the bike has limiter switches to keep you from red lining, or doing burn outs. My V-star 1100 classic is a '06 model and has served me well except for this problem. I was lucky that I was in a 30 mph speed zone. At a faster speed I could have taken a spill if the driveshaft detached the way that it did. Perhaps a "beefier" ...

The Yamaha V Star is a great investment. I am 65 and I can handle it fine. At the end of a day of riding I could still go for a few more miles. This is the best investment I could have made for retirement. It is paid for and unlike HD riders I am not still paying. I started riding when I was 14 on an Allstate Crusair. Through the years the only thing that comes close to my 2004 1100 Classic is my 1968 Honda 750 inline 4.

Love riding it every chance I get. Especially with gas now over $4.00/gallon. Great ride, look and handling for the money. Would rather ride this than a HD Dresser any day of the week.

Good bike, right price and looks like the ones that cost 20 to 25 thousand...gives a nice ride (for me) at 5' 10" 200. I would buy again. 2006 Silverado.

The noises would be a huge concern if not for the many comments I have viewed indicating they are normal. The trouble is this, the bike makes so many noises that it would be difficult to tell if something really went wrong. The noises aside, and from what I can tell only the driver can hear them) the bike is a great bike for the money. It is a great mid-range cruiser that comes equipped well and rides well. It just makes a lot of noise.

For long or short journeys the ride height is just about right for me being very comfortable. The engine is for a touring/cruiser very responsive and the fuel return better than average.

I bought my Star 1100 Classic new in 2004. I've ridden it mostly locally, to and from work, in all kinds of weather, three bike rallies not too far away, with occasional ventures out on to the interstate. It's a great bike. I've added a backrest, leather saddlebags, Hard Krome exhaust pipes (for that mean cruiser sound), and have an aftermarket windshield on order. The bike fits me like a glove. I'm 5'9" (if I stand up real tall), with kinda short legs, and weigh about 170 lbs. Everything ...

My previous machines were crotch rockets. My wife requested my next purchase not be a bullet-bike. I spent 6 months researching cruisers before I selected the Yamaha V Star 1100. There is simply no other motorcycle on the market that achieves the price/performance ratio of this machine. Sure, you can get a better machine, but you have to pay more (sometimes a lot more). The V Star is (for a cruiser) relatively light and nimble. It's big enough to be comfortable for the long haul, and fast eno ...

Yamaha should be finding a fix and stop covering up this problem. I know I wont be recommending them for a long time if they don't fix mine.

After a year and a half my bike has 8,000 miles on it. I have driven over 350 miles in a day with the stock seat, with only moderate discomfort. I quickly installed an oil filter relocation kit: Dropping the floorboard, rear brake pedal and the exhaust pipe is insane! I do not believe the transmission can be any sloppier nor louder when shifting. I am going to try a Barnett clutch spring to see if this helps. On the plus side, the bike is one sweet ride. It is easy to handle and is great in town ...

I've put 4,500 miles on my Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic since April and I can only say good things about this bike. I love it. I've added many accessories: Windshield, Barons tach., Cobra pipes and jets, K & N air filter, oil relocation kit. My only complaint: It really needs a 6th gear. At 75 mph the rpm's are close to 4,000, which makes prolonged riding at interstate speeds very taxing. But if you're not planning on long interstate trips, this is a great bike. I highly recommend it.

As far as looks go, I love the Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic. Decent power, but the engine and transmission make a lot of weird noise. The big problem here is dealer service. The service departments at the few dealerships we have around the Knoxville area are really bad. If you have warranty work needing to be done, forget it. They will blame it on anything and everything other than just standing behind their warranty and repairing the problem. My advice: Buy something else, or if you just have to ...

Do not buy this bike. The Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic have the same problem. I'm trying to sell my bike but nobody will buy it after they start it up and listen to it. The engine sound is horrible. The dealer tells me the high pitched sound is coming from the gearbox. Why did Yamaha put out a cruiser that sounds like a high speed drill.
