Two in our party of four had fish and chips the fish was awful and the chips were cold. The hot pot meal was tasteless and the sweets the worst we have ever had anywhere. We complained but it was ignored a complete waste of money and we will never return and will advise anyone not to eat in this pub.

Two diners had a board special- lamb something or other £12.95. The lamb was undercooked and gristly, the roast potatoes had been about since the day before, the red onions (the only vegetable) were mostly raw. What a bad experience! Complaints at the time were ignored by chef and management. Subsequent mail to Chef and Brewer has so far also been ignored.

Person behind bar was utterly ignorant, after taking my order for a drink he answered the phone and proceeded with a conversation completely ignoring me. I walked out and will never return.
To submit this I had to give ratings. But ignore these as the minimum is 1 star and I would not even give the place that, nor is there an appropriate selection under Atmosphere (the place looks run down and dead and should be one of the 40 or so pubs closing each week).- Read Guest's review (84 words)

What a shame to see a fabulous old country pub on the decline. Couple of years ago they had a great range of specials - that slipped a bit but still visited on regular basis - now menu changed again to bog standard offering which although cheaper is poor value for money. The tiniest chicken breast with a chorizo sauce for £10 was very poor. Add that to squeaky entrance door and dirty loos we will be going elsewhere for some time to come.- Read Guest's review (83 words)

Had a really terribe meal on the evening of 5th October Complained but was told it was changes and cut backs. and to compalin to head office that food was appalling. I will never eat out at the Spencer Arms again. The starter had no taste and had been around a long time. The main course I had to send my oven baked herb poatatoes back they had been reheated from lunch-time by the look of them and they tasted fowl. I supposedly had fresh saute poatatoes to replace them but they were equaly ineidb ...- Read Guest's review (130 words)

Chef & Brewer is a very attractive pub/restaurant with a good restaurant. Nice area to sit and eat or drink outside in the garden. It is, unfortunately, let down by the disappointing vegetarian options which would mean I would be unlikely to eat here again for a while.- Read Guest's review (48 words)

On 29.7.09 I took the family to This Chef and Brewer pub in the lovely village of Shere.
We ordered the 2 course lunch and kids menu. When the food arrived it was very average . I settled at the bar- only to find we had been overcharged by > £ 5.50 . The manager was incredibly rude and said it was my word against his staffs he challenged my request for clarification of the bill ... they had charged the meal components seperately contrary to the advertised price menu .How many other peopl ...- Read Guest's review (203 words)

I recently invited some relatives and friends for an evening meal celebrating my wife's birthday at chef and brewer.
As there was 14 of us I had to pre-order,giving 14 days notice, which I did. The order was on a spreadsheet explaining all that was required so nothing could go wrong - (WRONG!). At some time the Management rang me asking for the pre-order which had been submitted in person by me a week previously, at this point I should have realised that this was not going to go well. Howeve ...- Read Guest's review (386 words)

The Swan at Winwick Warrington Cheshire. We were shown to a table and left for 15mins. Waitress eventually came back & took our order. She then brought some shabby tablemats and that was the last we saw of her for 45mins.!!! That is until we decided enough was enough and told bar staff we no longer required the meals. Miraculously they were then ready but told them that forget it. There was no apology at all from the manager in fact found her to be really off hand not as you would expect a good ...- Read Guest's review (124 words)

In the past my family and I have enjoyed the excellent
service provided by Chef Brewer. However, on Saturday 25 April 09
we had lunch along with a party of other guests at Cross Roads
Weedon. There were fewer guests than originlly booked for but we still had to wait over an hour for the food. The restaurant was not busy. The hour wait is hard on young children and parents trying to entertain the little ones so as not to disturb other diners. The food when it did arrive was lukewarm and it beca ...- Read M Blake's review (204 words)

Avoid like the plague if you are a vegetarian! I ordered asparagus, brie and mushroom pie with pototoes and veg from Chef & Brewer, The Hut in Ravenshead. When my meal arrived it came with no gravy. I assumed with it being a pie and veg it would automatically come with gravy but I was wrong. I ask the waiter if it would be possible for the chef to make me some gravy but was told point blank no.- Read Guest's review (98 words)

Decided to give the Shire Horse at Maidenhead a try after recommendation from a work colleague. Food arrived promptly but was completely overcooked (dried out), tasteless and the portions were very small for the money. Our serving staff appeared indifferent and not overly helpful. Good parking and menu choice. Poor value for money

This Chef and Brewer has got very much better in 2008 and the staff are very customer-orientated, doing all in their power to make an evening there very enjoyable.
The Chef turned out some super dishes, nicely and perfectly cooked and also well presented.
Drinks are served properly and professionally and with smiles.
My only complaint is that every so often a draught goes up ones trouser leg when someone enters, could there be a better sealing of the entrance to stop this. ...- Read ianhuntly's review (91 words)

Usually the waitress comes back after a few minutes and asks how the meal is, but I think she must have been embarrased to serve such below standard food. I complained but there was no apology and no money off the bill. A waste of £20!!- Read debsypisces's review (101 words)

I was leading a small group of people on a walk on Saturday November 1st and recommended we go to the Romper Ringway Cheshire. Unfortunately nobody really enjoyed their meal.
The baked potatoes were almost inedible as the skin was hard and the filling cold. The fish and chips were also just warm and the fish did not seem fresh.
The soup was also only warm.
The time of our arrival was 1.15 approx and I had booked a table for 1pm
I felt distinctly uncomfortable as I had recommended we went there ...- Read Guest's review (169 words)
