Nintendo DS Lite certainly lives up to it's rep. It is one console that always seems to catch the eye when going on a games hunt. It is light and compact and easy to carry around. many accessories are available and the console itself comes in a good variety of colours.
The screen is easy on the eyes and you even have the option to change the brightness, which is something most hand held consoles lack. It operates with two screens, a top and lower screen. Both in use while playing. The...

I bought the DS on launch day and have been pleased with it ever since. While it lacks the powerful graphics of the Sony PSP it makes up for this with a totally innovative gameplay experience. Using the wi-fi multiplayer adds greater depth to the console, and setting up a game takes just a matter of seconds. Overall the DS provides a totally rewarding... (read more)

The Nintendo DS, in my mind, rules the handheld genre, and it is slowly but surely edging its way further ahead with the release of games that will dominate the DS, like Mario Kart, Metroid and Animal Crossing. Hello, good review but your comment about GTA should be put into context. Of course its not a good message for kids but remember that GTA is age rated 18 years old, so its target audience wouldn\'t really be \'kids.\' I happen to own both the DS and the PSP, and lets be honest, personal loyalties aside, the Sony product is technically superior. The DS does have it\'s own tricks, like battery life, tocuh screen and superb connectivity, but theres no hiding that it appeals to younger buyers and Nintendo fans. The multi-media friendly PSP has a much larger target audience.

This new device created by Nintendo called the Nintendo DS literally blows the PSP right out of the water into space.
It has good 3D graphics (not as good as PSP's). It also has the ability to play GBA games. It has an alarm clock and a clock. It even has a calendar. PSP can only play 3D games, play movies, and play music; and the PSP's pixels burn out within 2 months (well that's what I heard). It's very good for home use and on the go.
Highly recommended over the PSP!

A few things. The PSP's pixels don't burn out within 2 months. I know that because I have one as do my friends. I also know that the DS has no where near the graphical power of the PSP, nor anywhere near its multimedia capabilities. I know that because I own a DS as well. The PSP and DS have different target markets- the DS is aimed more to younger children while the PSP, with its wider age-range games, appeals to generally older buyers with more money. To say the DS blows the PSP away is a little odd, as apart from the touch screen functions and backwards compatability with GBA, the DS offers nothing over the PSP. The games of the DS are only good in their context- if Mariokart was released on PSP, it wouldn't do particularly do well apart from with loyal mario fans as there are other, more exciting and more in-depth racing games out, such as Burnout legends. By the way I've completed Mariokart. Animal-crossing? Wouldn't do well at all, except with younger buyers. The latter can surf the web, play movies, songs, store pics and even watch TV. These are abilities the little Nintendo could only dream of.

As far as graphics go, yeah the PSP kicks Nintendos butt - I don't have the PSP or the original DS but I do have the DS lite, much better than the PSP and the original DS. The DS lite will have the opera browser coming out for it in December and you can buy a media player which can put 10 full movies on it - that's much better than the PSP where you could fit like, one music video on it and then fill up your memory card. The PSP also has pixel problems. I don't recommend the DS or PSP but that's my opinion.

I have owned the Nintendo DS for 1 year, and I love it. In my opinion it blows the PSP to bits. Sure the graphics aren't quiet on par with the PSP, but the graphics are standable. What I wonder is, would the PSP be near as popular without the Web Browsing, Media Music Play, and Movie Player? That's what I hear all the hype on with the PSP. The point I am making is... No games for DS, eh? And the PSP has more to show for? Let me ask you a question. Do you even like good games? Have you played Avance Wars: Dual Strike, Nintendogs, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Pac Pix, WarioWare Touched, or Bomberman DS? All 6 of these DS games are awesome. And did you forget about Metroid Prime: Hunters, New Super Mario Bros., Lunar Dragon, Pokemon Diamond, Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing DS, Trace Memory, and Age of Empires? All good titles releasing only for the DS within the next 6 months? On top of that, ANY and EVERY GBA game ever released can play on the DS also. That adds a whole bunch of extra good games to the list.

The PSP, on the other hand, has no fun games. The only way you can like the PSP games over DS games is if you love sports/racing games. Yeah the music and video files are cool, but I have an mp3 palyer and a dvd player...so I don't need that part of the PSP. Plus, I wouldn't want to re-buy all my favorite movies on Universal Mini Disc for $20 to $25 USD. On top of that, the games are $10 to $20 USD more than DS games. Look at this figure: PSP + 1 game = $300...DS + 1 game= $165. You could get 2 DSs and 2 games for almost the same price as 1 PSP and 1 game. Plus, the DS battery lasts longer than the PSP's even with 2 screens.

Also, the PSP is a very iffy system. I work at a video game store, and I get calls everyday asking why their PSPs have broken down. Here is a list of some of the common problems: dead pixals, sticky buttons, non-responsive buttons, and broken battery. You think Sony would have fixed these problems from the Japanese one, but for some reason they didn't.

So, anyway, there really are only a couple of things the PSP has over the DS. Better graphics and A/V files. Here is what the DS has over the PSP: better games, a lot lower price, Invovative dual screens and 1 touch screen, virtually NO defects, and longer battery life.
Written on: 05/09/2005
Hey you may be right about PSP bein easy to break, but I'm not a kid anymore and I'm not going to be abusing it or anything. plus you cant expect it to be the same price as a Nintedo DS, because its way more expensive to make, and the games are much better on the PSP then on the DS. Try playing Spiderman 2 on the DS and then on the PSP. One's 2D and the other's 3D! sure there are a lot of nice titles coming up for the DS, but they're gonna look worse when people see what they're like for the PSP.
Written on: 06/09/2005
All those games I just mentioned are for the DS only. And I wasn't talking about little kids breaking the PSP, I was talking about manufactoring defects. Defects you see right as you open the box. Also, Spider-Man 2 for both systems sucked. Graphics good or not. I have already admitted to the PSP having better graphics anyway. The whole price thing, why pay $250 for a boring system with great graphics when you can buy an extremely fun but decent graphics for $130? Graphics don't matter THAT much. And why do you have to buy extra accessaries for PSP to get the full experience anyway? You buy a game and you are set for the DS, that 's all you need. By the way, have you seen Metroid Prime: Hunters? The graphics are awesome!

I would like to say one more important thing: the rest of the world agrees with me. Do you know the worldwide sales figures for PSP vs. DS? PSP has sold almost 2.3 million units whereas the DS has sold over 6.5 million.

I agree with Samus Aran. One of my friends has a nintendo ds. And i have played it. I plan to get the mario kart ds bundle. Games. Games are good for it. burnout revenge, most wanted, Metroid series, pokemon, and lots of other games. it can also play Game boy , game boy advance games. I could go on forever. And you talking about the keypad being small. Do you have a GBA sp. same size. Also the picto chat is not lame. Lets say. I go to a hotel for beta. My friends are right by me in like 1 or 2 or more rooms away. And you cant leave the room. You can play and chat against them. I would also much rather play for 10 hours compared to the psp(5 hours). Oh also wario war is a good game. The price is to much for a psp. You can have as much or more fun on a $130 dollar quilty system than a 250 dollar system.
Written on: 20/01/2006
I don't know if anyone is reading this but anyways. Okay PSP: games, music, videos, pictures. lets say 1 PSP($250), 1GB memory card($80), one game ($50), one movie($20)=$400 DOLLARS! OR 1 Nintendo DS($130), Ipod shuffle($130), Portable Dvd player ($99)= $350. Keep old dvds, play gba games, listen to music there you have the smart way. THERE you have your entertainment on the go.
Besides PSP battery life is 3 hours for movies on one charge, or 4 hours for games on one charge or 6 hours for music on one charge.

Nintendo DS 10 hours, iPod Shuffle 10 hours. Portable DVD Player 3 hours. = 23 hours.

I don't have a PSP or a Nintendo DS but my friends do and I am going to the store to get a Nintendo Ds.
Yeah, at first the looks of the PSP are cool but if you think (like i did) you realize that you can go without it. hope i helped. I even helped myself

Funny how so many units were suddenly appearing in second-hand shops after the psp release then eh ? Incidentally, the DS was released far earlier than psp - hence the sales figures temporarily in its favour. Another piece of junk, destined to appear at millions of car boot sales throughout the land. The future for the DS involves several re-releases (in pretty colours) along with useless attachments which render it the size of a brick. This being the only and most successful marketing strategy for Nintendo since they first starting ripping games consumers off and borrowing ideas from competitors.
Written on: 01/12/2005
GiantE., look up the latest in units sold DS vs. PSP. As of Oct 2005, the PSP sold just over 2 million units, whereas the DS has sold over 6.5 million. And talk about add-ons! That is all the PSP is! A brick with five hundred add-ons! And all they can ever release for it are movies. DS is beating and will continue to beat the PSP up until the next handheld generation.

I didn't have a hissy-fit. Anyway, all I do is express my opinions on games/gaming systems. If you dislike my opinions, well, more power to you. That is why humans have free will.
Written on: 26/06/2006
GiantElectric, you play the devil's advocate which is appreciated. Every good review will have a counterpoint so the consumer can decide if they want to buy the product or not. However, in one of your comments you even said that you don't want a handheld gaming system and are not entertained by such games. You make a good point about the lack of multimedia functionality which is a good bonus to have, but the real question I think these people are asking is if it is a good GAMING system. Hard to say unless you've played both. I'm sure if someone wanted to just watch movies they would buy a portable dvd player. It not only has a bigger screen and better quality but can actually run DVDs opposed to specialized little discs that can only run on the handheld.

You are right about the sales figures being misleading. Time and prices are not factored into it. However, I doubt everyone is buying $200+ handhelds without doing a little research first so maybe they do say something after all. Don't underestimate the power of word of mouth. If a system is good, they'll tell their friends to get one as well.
Written on: 28/06/2006
In all seriousness with reference to this console, I'll back my opinion up and use one of your own arguments- the software market. I think this console had potential but the developer support is rubbish, same old story. The majority of games are really old 16 bit ports, some pre-dating the dreamcast, I'm talking ports for amiga 500 & snes (eg James pond, rayman etc.. ) Other titles are just plain weird- Animal crossing / Trauma centre. And yes... I have tried playing them. It's like the developers have given up producing new originals and just dumped every 'one time successful title on it'. Also, There's little difference between games like Tetris on this system & tetris worlds on the gb advance (apart from a useless top screen). This is a good choice for gamers into the retro market or for those with a massive GB advance catalogue. Standing on it's own merit as a new handheld, the software lets it down badly.

Well you should have been made fun of for making such an idiotic decision. How can you compare a hand held to a console? Every review I've read of yours that is about a game console or hand held has a good rating if it is for Nintendo but if it's not Nintendo it doesn't get a good rating. Dude Nintendo is good and all but so are the other systems... I never said the DS was bad but Nintendo can be beat and so can Sony and Microsoft.
Written on: 28/04/2005
You are right, they can be beat, all three of them. But so far I have liked all of Nintendo's systems better than the others of the time. And I like the PSP a lot too. I gave it a 7/10 only because of the defects and all the sports games they have. Besides that, I would have given it at least a 9/10. The PSP is awesome.

The PS2 itself could have been better, and the only reason why I gave it a 6/10 was because of the bad graphics (compared to Xbox and GC) and all the problems it had. And the Xbox...well. I just don't like it. The graphics are awesome, but that is all I like (besides Halo).

The DS is awesome, the problem it has is not releasing games fast enough. If it had more hit titles (i.e., Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Yoshi) than it would be perfect.

And anyway, I can be a fan of one perticular Company if I want to. I have just been impressed by Nintendo the most by far. To tell you the truth, I may become a Sony/Nintendo person soon...if the Revolution isn't as good as the PS3, and the PS3 is lookin' pretty slick.

I don’t think you intentionally misrepresent stuff out of malice. It’s because you all got stuffed with a bad console & Nintendo are laughing at you all the way to the bank. It’s your own faults. Especially if you get staff discount and you chose Nintendo over PS2 or Xbox (samus). Tut, tut, Shame on you.

I chose the GC. That is just the way it happened this time. I have owned all 3 of them, so you can't say I am bias. In my opinion, Nintendo has the best one right now.

I mean seriously though, GiantElecttric are you stalking samus?? God forbid you give this guy a break.

NP Samus I heard the new nintendo console is gonna be online. IDK if its gonna be like xbox 360 where it's already installed or not.
ps. haha these reviews are turning into message boards, sort of.

I know, they are. Also on your comment on the Revolution...It is going to be wireless connection, so it should be in the system itself. ALso, you can download NES, SNES, and N64 games onto it. As well as having backwards compatibility with GameCube games. The PS3 will play all PlayStation games which is cool too. The graphics on PS3 are looking like they are going to smoke the Xbox 360...

awesome, sorry been tied up with some things haven't been able to get on here, i dunno bout that 360 is looken pretty good, havn't heard much bout the ps3, if the ps3 is gonna be online then it'll probally beat the xbox 360
Written on: 29/07/2005
Yes, the PS3 will be online...and it is supposed to have a network community like the original Xbox does. So, it will most likely beat the 360. But...games are where it's at. And (in my opinion) There aren't many good must-have franchises for the Playstation. Xbox and Nintendo have what I want most. I know...I know. I used to be an Xbox hater. But I bought one again for the Halo 2 online. And Star Wars Battlefront I & II. Anyway, PS3 will rock, but games will dictate which system I want.

yeh man seriously battle front 2 and halo 3 when they come out are gonna kill on xbox 360. haha, yeh i use to play halo2 on xbl alot almost every day , yeh i was addicted, pathetic i know but it's a good game. now I guess i just got sick of it or something because i havn't got back on xbl in 3 weeks. there's really not any other good game on xbl besides halo unless you like racing games.

God, what a bunch of hypocrites. See, all this fuss could have been avoided if you'd just stuck with the Xbox in the first place. I think you should start commenting on your reviews - an apology for the many gamers you offended & for the products you misrepresented: " I am sorry, I was wrong, please forgive my naive ways ".

The Nintendo DS is a great system with some fantastic games, I love the cool double screen and the wicked touch pen. It's also great for sending secret messages!!! (read more)

I purchased the Nintendo DS back in Febuary when I was going away, I needed something to keep me occupied. Disappointed that PSP wasn't on the way until March 24th, I went online and grabbed a DS with a few other games. I have to say, I was kind of let down by DS and it has affected what I think of Nintendo and me purchasing their products in the future. Now I will say, Mario 64 is a PHENOMENAL game but one game isn't gonna save the whole system here. The pen included with the DS is... (read more)

I think that I speak for all Nintendo fans when I say that you are a loser.

I never lost my stylus pen, and I am quite happy with my Nintendo DS. In fact, you said that any one over the age of 10 would hate it? I am 18, my friend is 17, my other is 18, my brother is 15, my boss is 26, my other boss is 31, my girlfriend is 17, and we all LOVE our DS's. And you say the line-up for the PSP is good? I have news for you: Not everyone likes sports games! A huge majority of the line-up for PSP is sports games. Granted, games like WipeOut and Dynasty Warriors are cool, but I played the Spider-Man game, Ape Escape, and Untold legends, and yes, the graphics are awesome on them, but they were garbage games. The PSP is nothing compared to the DS.

i bought nintendo ds and what shocked me the most is that its so uncomfortable! i was expecting it to be A LOT more comfortable since nintendo gamecube's controller is the most comfortable controller i've ever held in my life, but when i play the ds for about 2 hours my thumbs ache terribly from repeatedly reaching for the A button which is one of the most challenging parts of playing.

The point is the DS's games and 2005 line-up are way better than PSP's line up. UNLESS...unless you like sports games. Then the PSP is the handheld for you. That is the thing, though. I am not a fan of sports games. So I prefer the DS over the PSP.

The Nintendo DS is an awesome buy, anyone pondering on whether to buy DS or PSP, I say get a DS. This is because the DS is something original, it incorporates touch technology with awesome graphics. And the value for money is incredible, The DS is AUD$194 where as the PSP is AUD$450, this is an enormous difference in price, and in my opinion not worth the hype for a PSP. I have tested a PSP and didn't like the feel of it in general, same old same old. I'm not ragging on Playstation as I own... (read more)

The Nintendo DS is an amazing piece of hardware that shows Nintendo is really trying to be innovative, the DS will blow the PSP out of the water, and there's also backwards compatability with GBA games while you wait for the DS library to build. (read more)

Ah, the Nintendo DS, where to start? I've got to say, Nintendo have really outdone themselves this time, clever chaps. Firstly, the graghics, thanks to a powerful Panasonic drive, I am pleased to say they are EXCELLENT!!! But where the graphics really shine, are in racing games. You could be a Ferrari, a Honda, a Ford, it still doesn't matter they all look dazzling! The gleam, the reflections, the shines, every little detail is perfected. And don't wet your pants if you don't like racing... (read more)

The DS is an aweosme system, the graphics are great. The overall review, I give this product 10/10 points! (Thats 10 out of 10). The duel screen capacity allows for multiple things to be done at once, and allows a better point of view on your game. The awesome stereo system gives great quality sound. The touch screen is great. The screens have hardened surfaces for less scratches. The wireless communication allows for contact with your friends when you want it. The wrist strap helps keep... (read more)

Nintendo DS is amazing console came out on Nov. 19 and was not a big hit at first, but I believe it will be around the holidays. I own one myself, and I am waiting for others in my neighborhood to get one themselves which is one of the down points. Metroid Prime Hunters is O.k, hard to get used to, but once you get into it, its really hard to put it down. For a portable console, its got great graphics (read more)

The DS is awesome...and you say you agree. If so, why did you give it a 6/10? I personally think it deserves a 10/10.
