“Slow and unhelpful”

My big issue with their business account is it takes them 3 days minimum to move a payment to another account unless you pay a fee for each transaction. They claim its next day, but it's the day after you ask them to make a payment they act on it and then another day for it to move, it makes no sense (that's working days too). “Banking from the 90s but it's free”

I use Cater Allen for business banking. They're OK for what they do but not fit for purpose for a business in 2016. Word to the wise: 1. Their online banking is just acceptable to use but needs a complete overhaul. It does the job but don't get any ideas beyond that - remember there are no branches so it is a pain. 2. “Don't use if you receive international payments”

Cater Allen are unable to tell me if a payment that I should have received by now, has been received by their clearing bank- Royal Bank of Scotland. Effectively- they don't know where my money is- which is one of the main things I look for in a Bank Account! Not only do they not know where my money is- their suggested solution is to "wait a few days and see what happens". This is not a 21st century solution. “Internet banking stuck in the early noughties”

I have used Cater Allen for business banking since 1997, but that doesn't mean to say I'm at all happy with their service, which is pretty dreadful to be honest. The good: Receiving and making payments in advance is straightforward; onshore phone service is acceptable and pretty friendly. No business charges for balances in excess of 5k, unless transactions number more than circa 30 per month... this suits my business, so the value for money is good. “refused my own money”

I opened a trust acount with cater allen lifted a lot of money from the acount with the same id bank details and pac num they let me lift out thousands then I tried before Christmas with all the same id and now all of a sudden they say my signatures don't match due to this they have left me with no money to feed myself or my kid. trust fund with cater allen do NOT open one with them as there so unhelpfull disrespectful to customers with a lot of money in there bank… Read Full Review

“Closed account with no reason and no notice”

Cater allen closed my business account, and cancelled the VISA card with no notice. Apparently they had written to me (regular mail) but I didn't receive it. When I called them they were rude and unhelpful. To put the icing on the cake, they rejected the transfer of my account balance to a new business bank account, presumably with the aim to disrupt my business. “Not Clue”

The bank used to be very good, but it seems a change in management over the last 2 years has just bought it downhill. dealt with them on many sides as a client and introducer. The mortgage influence seemed to bring the nail in the coffin as the team just didn't know what they were doing, please bring back the old people who offered great service. "Not clue"? If you speak in English as poor as this to customer services anywhere, I'm sure most people would appreciate that in return you can expect a sub-standard service. Effective communication on both sides = effective service/resolution. Can you even dress yourself in the morning?

“The most incompetent bank”

I tried to open a business bank account,after one month with them here are the conclusions :There is such a bad support,they don't have neither a branch, their team for processing documents it's extremly incompetent, just imagine that they were not able neither for check at the company house where it's address of the company. “Incredibly bad service”

“Completely Incompetent”

Very poor handling of international payments. Payments not sent on time or with severe delays, no reasons given. When receiving money it frequently gets returned to sender or takes a week to credit. Customer service teams seem to have no idea what is going on. Seems cheap on paper but the charges quickly add up not to mention the stress caused by dealing with them. “No App and bad systems”

Locked my account by entering the incorrect PIN, told that a new one would be sent in the post. It arrived, still couldnt access my account, phoned up Cater Allen to be told there is also a pending password to be sent out to myself. ??? Where is it??? I was told it was only the PIN that had been locked, and would be sent out alone. 7 - 10 days??? How can you operate as a business with a bank like this. I recently received a letter from Cater Allen saying (like with a previous poster), they would be closing my account. No reason given because "they don't have to". I am working overseas and this is VERY inconvenient. However, I have opened a new account with an offshore bank that actually pay pretty good rates of interest compared to CA. After 30 day-to-day transactions on your debit card they will charge you .75 per transaction. Sure its buried in the fine print, but you might miss it (I did.) So after using my debit card for most anything relating to my business I realize I'm paying them 50-80 pounds a month just to have an account with them. Absolutely extortionate!!! “Going downhill rapidly”

I have been a business customer of theirs for 6 years. They have now written to say they are closing my account in 60 days and will not give a reason. Just recently (past month or so) they have been calling me to check every single transfer I have made to suppliers and received from clients and requested documentation for these. Fully agree. Zero points. They may pick up the phone and be courteous but I can get more banking support for my business from my local sweetshop. Hopeless. Im leaving after 4yrs as a customer. Dont touch them.

“Inaccurate, Misleading, Arrogant, ”

First - a Euro money transfer went into my account (e regular transaction) and they simply transferred the numerical value as GBP. My accountants spotted it, not them. Admittedly they paid me compensation for this, but only when I asked. Second – a regular monthly transfer failed to materialise. I made several calls to CA, as well as the company who were to have paid me, who assured me that money had been paid. “Just not worth it”

Where do i start, the customer service is amazing and the staff are great what lets this bank down is money transfers can take 2 days whilst my other bank accounts take less than a hour If you have foreign incoming payments cater allen struggles with these whilst most banks give you a iban and swift number cater allen uses RBS iban and swift codes and you need to add credit notes and reference notes to forward the funds to you cater allen account which sometimes is not possible and confuses… Read Full Review

Yep experiencing exactly the same issue with foreign income payments and now I have just received a letter from Cater Allen saying they are closing down my business account without giving any reason. Further to a call today they sight there reason as being: 'The bank does not have the risk appetite for foreign income payments - what the hell does that mean!

I have banked with Cater Allen and its predecessor banks since the mid 80's. I am quite possibly their longest-standing customer of their online banking facilities, but you'd never guess this from the treatment I get.
