“CoOps business account online is woeful ”

Joined on the basis of their ethical stance leaving to go to another ethical bank (Triodos) which I use at work and is simply 100 times better for online banking. CoOp's business banking online is hopeless, difficult to navigate, slow, prone to freezing, with hardly any worthwhile features. If they were even nearly as good as the opposition I would stay with them but they ain't! (read more)

I have no problem with the bank except they took ages to set my company up, that put me in serious jeopardy as my client could have at any point decided not to pay. However when I got access to the online banking service I could hardly believe my eyes. It is the most ugly, archaic and confusing online service I have ever seen and I have been involved in online apps since the early 90s. For example if I list transactions it only lists the last 4. Totally agree the worst ever.. and then the call charges when you have to call because the site is down. How do you run a business with the co op as your partner.. answer you can't. Cant pay salaries, supplies on time, very bad.

I've been using this bank for my business account for over four years now as it was recommended by the FSB but their atrociously bad online banking is making me think of quitting. I like their ethical values but the website is a rip off, appallingly hard to use and un-user friendly. Add to that the difficulty of finding a branch locally and their not-particularly-helpful banking staff, I'd say to anyone not to waste your time with this bank and I will be leaving it soon. No end of probelms with poor service. Initially their online banking was inacessable most of the time. That is nw OK, but I find things like their anti-fraud dept cancelling payments without bothering to contact us, foreign transactions not being done until a day or two later (once a 2 week delay was blamed on the world cup being on!), and general incompetence at anything other than the basic core transactions. Banked very happily with First Direct for many years with no problems at all but when I became a Ltd Co thought I needed a grown up business a/c. Attracted by the free service, ethical banking and FSB endorsement, but it's been a disaster. It took a total of 19 working days from submitting application to getting a working bank a/c with c/q book, paying in slips etc. I couldn't raise invoices because I had no bank details to give my customers. I've been a Co-op business customer now for about 3 years, after signing up through the FSB. Not a smooth transition from my Nat West business account, but the draw of no charges and a financial 'bung' for customer loyalty every year was attractive. Now, being an 'internet/e-commerce retailer', pretty much everything I do is on-line. This is where it all fell down (and still falls down) with the Co-op Business Banking service. Been with coop for 7 years and on average 8k a month always in credit I have no loans or credit with them they declined me on a basic business account as my credit file has 1 late payment for my car insurance which I had stopeed And is now deleted as a mistake by experian. On average they have lost about 40 cheques which on numerous times was paid into post offices which made it so you have to travel in my case 100 miles each way to the nearest coop bank . Different person everytime, no continuation or knowledge or ownership about our case. I,m a new fsb/co op business account holder - lots of bad reviews on here but in my experience so far so good - leaving hsbc after 10years as they are useless / rip off charges and call centes in india etc abolutely no help when you need it - at least the co-op account is free (maybee my expectations are low) - most review issues with the co-op on here seem to be with their online banking which is a pity - if there are problems with it they should sort it out . hope I wont regret the move... It seems to be run by young people with little experience and zero interest in customer service. Shocking customer service. We run a non-profit organisation and as such needed a simple current account for the business. Around 6 months ago they changed the security login procedure and we had to re-confirm our details. Ever since we have been unable to access our account through any other way than the cash point - requested new details twice and they have both somehow been lost at the bank - we have now closed the account and we would strongly recommend a person or organisation choose... My internet bank account has been satisfactory for many years. My phone calls are answered politely and effectively. The password procedure works smoothly. They do not swamp me with bank charges and were compassionate enough to cancel my bank charge for bounced cheque when I explained the circumstances. I am very Happy with Co-Op bank and am moving my business bank account to Co-Op. I am delighted to find an ethical bank to be with. (read more)

I think this reviewer is talking about thepersonal account, which is far better than the business service. When they do move their business account to the Coop I think they will probably realise what everyone else is complaining about.

The free banking and ethical approach seem attractice and was what attracted me but whilst the call centre staff are helpful they are utterly powerless to sort anything out. God help you if you forget your PIN number as there is no other security measure so your account is essentially locked.

As for the internet banking, well that should be a object lesson as how not to do something, I work in IT and keep wondering how someone could... (read more)

Their latest business banking website had me gasping in disbelief. I've a lot of experience of IT and I develop our company's website. The Coop's is beyond bad. When I activated my account I spoke to someone who told me that the team who had built the website had no experience with the financial industry. It shows badly. Try to get transactions for the year before last. Cannot be done with less than 26 mouse clicks, and that's just to set up the date ranges!! you cannot even keep your mouse in the same place as you click repeatedly. So I think they also had little experience with user interface design or web design. How can a company the size of the Coop get it so wrong??? I think many other aspects of banking with the Coop are good but the managers need to go on a course on website design and take internet banking seriously for a change.

Appalling! I transferred to the Co-op Bank on the promise of free banking from the FSB. Soon found out why it was free - no one would pay for such a dreadful service. The first cheque I paid in via their 'nominated post office' service went missing! It was cashed within 6 days from the customers account but didn't appear in my business account for nearly 1 month! We used to run our business account with HSBC. After suffering their Indian call centres and their robotic procedurised and ultimately ineffective help for 'non-standard' issues (we only ever phoned them for non-standard issues that couldn't be resolved by reference to the HSBC website), we decided to change to Co-op Bank. Like everyone else I was reeled in by the "ethical banking" thing, but every time I attempt even the simplest transaction I end up feeling extremely unethical. Just awful. Cannot log on at the moment. Is there a page saying 'Please log on again at a later date because the site is down?'. Nope. Just try to log on and get an 8712 error... Phoned them, was told system is down and that a new system would be implemented soon. They said this 2 years ago. it is not acceptable. I would say on average I get system errors thrown back at me 90% of the time I use it.

I could not agree more with the other reviewers. I chose to use Co-op because I agree with the ethics, but the fact that they are ethical is no excuse for being absolutely awful. The only interface I ever actually use is the internet banking and it is unbelievably bad. It manages to have security procedures which are simultaneously weak AND burdensome (it requires only a password, but wants you to constantly change it), which is quite a feat. I have forgotten my password and cannot access my account because they are insisting on a passcode that is not set up. I have had to wait for a form to be posted. I posted it back Monday. Now Friday and they have no record of it.

Dreadful customer service and antiquated systems! I've been trying to change the address on my account for over a month. I've sent 3 letters, one by recorded delivery, and they still claim not to have received any of them. They refuse to change it over the phone or on the website as they are "not secure" despite, passwords, security questions. Simply the worst internet bank in the world. Unable to log on today so I rang the helpline number and was told the main computer systems were down because of the snow!!!
I have only ever been able to log on once - every other time I have to go through the helpdesk as the system never accepts the latest password. They now have a dedicated phone line just to log customers on to their accounts. Truly, truly terrible.

Terrible. I have been with them for three years, but am about to sell my business, so it isn't worth changing accounts. Their website is very poor, but most importantly, half the time it DOES NOT WORK. I haven't been able to withdraw funds for over a day, because their server has bugs in it and keeps bringing up an error code (nothing to do with my PC or browser, it's part of their system.) Shocking - I moved from HSBC to the co-operative bank with my business account because I was a happy customer with smile - also part of the co-op bank.

The web interface is horrific and I have suffered it for 4 years. An average salary run for my 6 employees takes me an hour or more! org.omg.Corba no resources ...

That's why they have been featured on Radio 4's Moneybox programme today.....so many account holders have complained.

Why go to the BBC? Because Co-op do not respond to written or email complaints about their shambolic web and phone service.

It is not ethical for them to add new account holders when their service does not work. It is not ethical for them to pretend everything is OK and ignore the damage they are doing to their account holders businesses.

Don't understand these bad reviews - every bank may have an off day but in terms of overall customer service the Co-op is excellent. The staff really care and on one occasion they called me, told me they had made a mistake on my business account, that they had put it right and had credited my account with £25 for the trouble - if you can find one other bank (anywhere in the world) that would do this then I'll eat my computer!

I love the co-op. I have my personal accounts with them and the internet banking _for the personal login_ is fantastic... straightforward and fast.

When I moved by business accounts over from HSBC I was expecting the same high standards. NO CHANCE!!!

Shockingly slow! It is almost a joke. Slower than dial-up. Feels like im in the 80's.

Awful, awful website. I'm really not exaggerating.

It's always been slow and frequently stopped displaying my balances and transactions, but it's now been properly broken (error messages and crashes) for over a week. A whole week!!! I get mildly annoyed if my free email account goes down for a few minutes but these people have thousands of pounds of my money in their system!

It is early days and I've been spoiled by the far superior RBS and Smile internet banking experiences on a personal level and the Coutts and NatWest ones which a couple of clients use.

The internet banking service is torture.

Three years in development and still useless, I wait ten minutes to attempt a single payment, then get disconnected with an error message.

Why have the Coop not sacked the entire development team? It does not take a genius to see the servers are overloaded by a poorly engineered architecture. It is not of commercial quality and should never have been released.

Error messages on the screen every time I log on .... not good enough.

Not only did it take me three months to fill in all the forms correctly but the online account is utterly useless - when I can get online.
