“Shockingly inept”

Attempts to create business account were a nightmare. Head office say one thing, branch say another and some arrogant upstart being funny and doubting what I say and told him to stop being funny or else!. Told them that if they are like this now, god knows what that lot will be like if I actually had an account. Told them to shove it where the sun don't shine. “Business banking nightmare”

Business banking customer. I made an international payment of £1100 for goods and their fraud team stopped my payment and asked me the date of birth and passport number etc of my supplier ( all confidential details about him) I provided that money released. Next time again I paid for the goods and their team stopped my payment indefinitely. Asked me to provide the same details of the same person again. Is it a joke ! “Unprofessional and slow service”

Like several reviewers, I found it painfully slow to open a business account with HSBC. I was told I needed a telephone interview at the end of the long and tedious online and postal application stages, and when I was finally called, 2 weeks after making my application, I was told the interview, which they had arranged themselves, was with the wrong office. “Invasion of Privacy- Poor Experience”

“Painful account opening, unacceptable turnaround times”

June 2011 - 1st Business account opened some years ago, took 1 hour in branch. September 2013 - 2nd account opened on the phone (new business), took over 8 weeks. no explanation given. January 2014 - 3rd account opened (another new business) and still waiting. Currently 5 visits with ID into branches (seems the regular staff just take a copy, but don't bother to upload onto the system so business account opening can't see it). Made an application online for a basic business bank account. Waited 10 days for a decision only to receive an email saying to call them... unfortunately they're only open between 9-5 during which time I'm at work so had to wait a week to call them on my day off... only to be told that I need a telephone appointment with a business banking advisor to 'review' the application, the first appointment is in 1 week. “Does HSBC really want new customers?”

I made an application for a new business account on line, the web site advised 3 to 5 working days for a decision. After 10 I received an email asking me to ring an 0845 number to complete the process. I did this for a week – every day several times but just got to listen to very very poor quality music for periods of up to 30 minutes when I would give up. “HSBC Appalling, and treats all customers like criminals”

I've been with HSBC for over 25 yrs now. I have a personal account, a business account and a overseas account. I tried opening an international currency account as my business is now international - my clients in SE Asia, Middle East, US. I don't have a massive turnover, it's fairly modest, but not small. We have been appointed an HSBC relationship manager, and since then nothing ever happens. We have been waiting for six months to get an USD currency account opened. She is even actively trying to persuade us to switch to a different bank, as they apparently does not want to deal with small businesses anymore.

The reason, I've been told, is all the fines that HSBC has been charged around the world, making them extremely risk adverse and basically only wanting big, public companies as clients nowadays.

We are looking to move away from them, but to what? All the other big ones appear to be equally bad, and the small banks don't have the facilities we need.

“Not interested in new customers”

Applying for and setting up a HSBC Card has been near impossible, with the application process taking around a month. Their email notification system is backwards - you log in online to check where the status is, which then triggers and email to tell you to log in online. Dealing with customer service on the phone was just as difficult. This looks like a false entry. In what way was it helpful? What did you require them to do? How can you say they are value for money - they charge you to have a large cash sum in their bank and pay little interest lol

“Avoid HSBC at all costs for business and personal banking”

HSBC are impossible to deal with face to face, they keep changing my 'relationship manager'. Keep in mind that I should be a top customer, I have been with them since it was Midland Bank and regularly put six figures through each year. HSBC are hard to deal with on the phone and have no started charging for basic telephone banking. HSBS are impossible to deal with online, their apps for ipad and iPhone do not work. So now we have to pay a monthly fee to support their useless service. Followed by multiple payments for what used to be free payments into the account (You would think they would be happy to see you put you money in?! Not bill you for the privilege!!! Idiots) .
