Although First's service has improved slightly in the year or so I have had to use them regularly, they are still quite bad. Fares are pretty high, e.g. £3.70 for a 2-trip ticket in this area at the moment - I'm lucky to have been able to buy a discounted 3-month pass from my college. The buses are ALWAYS dirty - litter on the floor, dirt on the window ledges etc. The seats in some of the vehicles are quite uncomfortable - they seem to have been badly designed! The service has become a bit more reliable recently, but I still have to make sure I keep up to date on alternative routes as there are still times when bus nearest to where I live doesn't turn up. I can't wait to pass my driving test - a car will be cleaner, more comfortable and will be more likely to get me to places on time!

First buses are overall pretty good it's what you get for a few quid here and there.
Newer buses on more pleasant routes are quite clean, most though are pretty dirty, most drivers are grumpy and hardly speak when your asking for your fare.
Quite good value for money bit of a rip off on some routes though.
I'd reccomend for a friend if you want to get from A to B- Read Guest's review (72 words)

first group bus in the borders is a good service and value for money some of the buses however are a bit antiquated and could do with being up graded and the drivers should be payed the same as dalkeith and not less as they have more responsibilty handaling cash- Read Guest's review (56 words)

Timetables are the real problem. Only good thing about them is that every single stop has a unique set of timetables made specifically for that stop (timewise), pretty common thing though. But lot of services come infrequent. Now, it would be understandable, one can always complain about something like that. But, it's the distribution, there are peaktimes, morning and afternoon, where obviously most of the passengers are using the buses (or would like to use, apparently). It's still a common comp ...- Read Tarc's review (222 words)

If you like being treated like you're a criminal and bullied by the bus driver, this service is the one for you! I'd rather pay a little more for a taxi, at least the drivers are on time and polite!- Read Atyhy's review (101 words)

A bus service that is supposed to run every 15 minutes either doesn't show at all or is very late. I am specifically talking about the 54 bus in particular. Yesterday night at 5.10pm I waited for a bus that turned up at 5.38pm.
I also found the driver to be unpleasant.- Read goldfish75's review (72 words)

I got a First annual pass, and I will never do so again - when it expires, I plan to buy a bicycle. I've found the 26/27 and 21/22 routes particularly unreliable, with roughly 30% odds that I will end up forced to walk no matter how hard I try to catch the evening buses. A few kindly drivers cannot compensate for the overall uselessness of this service.- Read Selkie's review (187 words)

The First Bus service in Bristol is appalling, I reguarly have to wait up to 40 mins for a service that is supposed to run every 12-15 minutes. When the busses do arrive they are often overcrowded, old and dirty, and we have to pay over £4 for a day ticket for the privilege! Most of the drivers are either miserable, or don't speak English, although there a few that try their best and are friendly and helpful. Overall, the service is unreliable and overpriced, however with no alternative me ...- Read stereocatz's review (133 words)

I'm a commuter on First Bus in Bristol and it's amazing how similar my story is to the other reviews on here (apart from the one written by the MD of First Bus or whoever he is!).
What makes it even more surprising is that First regularly say that the reason the service is poor is because Bristol traffic is so bad, and then point to 'successes' in other areas of the country to show that, basically, it's Bristol Council's fault for not sorting out the traffic.
Considering that Bristol Coun ...- Read boydell's review (185 words)

First Bus pertains specifically to route 95 through the Scottish Borders.
The Scania single-decks are fast and smooth... and very rare. The usual bus is a smelly, noisy and dirty ex-City of Northampton double-deck, or an old single-deck of dubious parentage. The cost of the travel is silly (it's cheaper to drive even if you factor in fuel, insurance tax etc.) The timetabling is a joke with buses (sometimes) arriving (and leaving) early, but usually (very) late. No useable evening service. The ...- Read angelis's review (126 words)

First should be given credit where credit is due. They did not become the UK's largest bus operator because of the minority groups experiences. Its true, some buses do not turn up on time, but its not the companys fault. The driver of the bus cannot control the traffic issues that major cities have.
First offer high frequency services, some as often as every 5 minutes (each area varies).
Many of Firsts buses are low floor easy access. The majority of the fleet is currently been modernised, ...- Read Skotl4nd's review (160 words and 1 comment)

Oh for the days of South Yorks pte and Mainline (the forerunner to 'Worst Bus'), when you knew your bus would turn up, decent fares and a smile once in while.
Then 'Worst Bus' arrive on the scene and..... fare rises every 6 months, constant delays, buses running in 2 and 3's (rumoured by locals to make sure they don't get lost), service cuts every 3-4 months.
Thank god for Yorkshire Terrier, at least one firm will get us to work on time...- Read crookesmoorboy's review (102 words)

After 2 years of using the 24, and 182 First Bus routes (Manchester to Rochdale)(Stagecoach excellent) I am now glad to say that I never have to use this service again.
From Rochdale to Manchester with a supposed frequency of 4 per hour I often found that 1 may turn up on time, not turn up at all or 3 may turn up together, ( perhaps so that consumers do cannot single out 1 bus driver to voice their frustration at).
From Manchester to Rochdale in the evenings there have been cases where I hav ...- Read Minal1's review (242 words)
