i bought my 03 gilera rcr 50 as spares or repair as it didnt run and had been sat up for 5 years. when i got my rcr home i personaly rebuilt the engine fully with all new bearings, seals, gaskets and piston and was very suprised at how cheap the parts were. also as i am only 16 i was suprised at how simple it was and would encurage other to save money and rebuild these them selves. after a succesful rebuild i put the engine back in, it preety much fired strieght up on about the 6th kick. and... This is the best 50cc you can own, with some mods it does 68 mp/h flat.
sometimes i dragrace with it against other 50cc and i have not lost.
This bike shouldn't be used in rain, your shoes will get really wet.

brilliant bike incredibly fast and easy to ride only downsides are ducati electrics are pain in wet and starting from cold or being stuck in traffic because whilst in traffic decides it don't like it and stalls love the smoothness and comfort although had to change the handlebar grips for foam ones because on a run gets bit too viby and hands fall asleep but overall would recommend and a tip for people is Vaseline all connectors if you have ducati electrics and the bike will do 50mph up hill... Had this bike 2 weeks, bought it second hand. Needed new bars, grips, throtal cable, air filter and a good cleaning. Apart from that, the engine runs sound and it is probably one of the best 50 cc's iv seen running, can easily get near to the 50 - 55 mark. No problems. Love this bike can be a b#tch to get going but once you have the bike running correctly, its a sound bike and worth the money! :) (read more)

great bike, looks awsome, great off road, practically indestructable. I love this bike, ive never had a problem with it. i just got a de-ristriction. Its now quite quick. I fell off the other day, in a 55mph hi-side the bike flew sorta fliped and then slide and i just picked it up and rode on(the indicator broke and was dangling by the cable). Amazingly robust! Its great fun off road, i take it on mountain bike tracks and it handles anything with ease; drop offs get a bit exiting.... (read more)

i took over this bike from my older brother and have had it for about 6 months, great bike its been de-redistricted and does a maxium of 50mph very fast with no other mods or accessories. I would recommend this bike for any other learner, apart from the time it takes to warm in the mornings i think its the best value 50cc you can buy. (read more)

Owned a Gilera RCR 50 for three years, never had one single problem, used it for commuting day in-day out. Aswell as commuting I rode it for pure enjoyment in the evenings and weekends, thrashed it everywhere! Great learner bike, lots of fun, good size, good riding position. Not enough power when restricted, feels sluggish and struggles with hills. (read more)

Good points on this bike, even with the stock exhaust and just improved air flow to the engine it will do about 40 - 45 but i am going to go for a race pipe though
Recommended to 16 year olds that have common sense and can ride a bike safely..

I ' ve had the bike a year now and it has only broken a couple of times, nothing major only electrics, my bike has a lot of power, I have a Doppler exhaust and I have a race carb I am going to fit soon to improve power. This bike is definitely better than getting a moped, as all my friends have realised when riding behind me everywhere. The bike is very light and easy to throw around and pull wheelies, I can pull a power wheelie in any gear, it ' s an easy bike to learn gears on... I... (read more)

By the sounds of things it has to much air going to the engine, theres a few things you could do. I would suggest taking the air filter off cleaning it and making sure it is all connected securely, or you could up jet it, but it takes a long time to do, if the bike has a sports air filter you would need to up-jet it, jets are only a few quid... but thats just my opinion, it could be something completly different, but that is all I could think of by the way you have described it... anyway, I hope it helps...let me know.

I have that moped and it doesnt have enough power, its too high, its too big and heavy for a moped. Im quite disappointed to it. I cant drive same ways to my friend because moped cant go same ways like Honda Monkey. I doesnt like this moped at all. Its too high and heavy for a moped. And like that wouldn't be enough, it has the worst power/weight ratio that I have seen. (read more)

I have a 2008 Gilera RCR 50. I have put a tecnigas e-nox performance exhaust on it, had a bigger carb on it, and had the front sprocket changed to 12 tooth. This means I have really amazing acceleration yet very high top speed and it sounds amazing. On flat, with no wind I can max out at 65, headwind, 60, tailwind, 70. It looks amazing and is possibly one of the quickest 50's you can buy Intense bike, recommend for anyone, even standard they are quicker than most other peds. (read more)

All in all I would highly recommend this to any 16 year old who wants to start off on a motorbike. I recommend that you buy a performance exhaust system this makes hell of a difference to the performance of the bike and de-restricts it so you can get about 60-65 out of it. I have up-jeted mine and fitted a boost chamber this makes mine max out at 70mph and down hill with the wind behind my back it'll do 75mph which is fast for a 50cc bike. (read more)

Well where to start. 1st problem I got with I started on the first day carboration was wrong. Next problem working on it, kick stand fell off but seeing as its a Spanish bike they didn't seem to think this will be ridden by first time riders so lets use step through bolts just to make it little bit more complicated and then the kick stand started to bend which made me realise that they didn't seem to use metal on this bike more like putty. The chain is like and elastic band. The exhaust is... (read more)

The Gilera RCR 50 is a great bike to start you off. The bike is very fast when you de-restrict it, and sounds amazing when you put a race pipe on it! Its best quality is taking it off road: its super! It isn't too bad in the wet either: you just have to be a good driver! The RCR is also very light, so you can throw it round corners! It's fantastic to ride! (read more)

I think the Gilera RCR 50 bike is very good for starting to ride, it pulls very fast. When you use it only on road I recommend buying a smt version because when you drive it in the wet it's very slippery. The RCR is a good bike not to good standard and even with a derestriction, its not the best but even though the RCR has the same motor as the Derbi Senda 6 speed but the Gilera has larger transfer ports in the barrel than the Senda has! If you notice the barrel is marked with Gileras own name! I have got a Leovinchi Titanium exhaust and a '70' main jet! the top end is not to special with standard gearing only doing bout 60mph to 65mph on a good day but the acceleration is fantastic! The Gilera RCR 50 is amazing. I've beaten a 125 off the start on it it pulls away so fast. You three must have had the bad bunch because mine takes a matter of seconds to warm up, and if the choke is complicated then you have to pump a couple of times. The tyres aren't bad in the wet you just have to watch out for wet drains. absolutely love the bike, just wish it had the top speed of the 6 speed ones (read more)

The Gilera RCR is a very fast and reliable bike. The bike takes a long time to warm up, but when is warm it is very responsive. The tyres are extremely poor in the wet. The bike is very good offroad but loses a lot of power when the hills get big!
All in all the bike is an excellent all-rounder and I would advise it to anyone.

The Gilera RCR 50 off-road bike is a lovely bike to start off on. It is fast pulling off, has good handling, is an easy bike to look after, and the RCR is also very good on fuel. well after you commented on my review so nicely I think it's only fair to say that your review is a load of rubbish. The rcr may look bigger but you've got to be a big boy to ride one.

Well I'd rather be on a big bike than a small cramped hairdrier motor like your DNA I just put on a trail exhaust on mine and fully derestricted it and the off roading capability is awesome and also the on road performance is great too. I mean what kind of street cred do you get on a DNA if any everyone knows there's a hairdrier engines and also if you've just bored yours out it won't last for very long after about six months the cylinder will just crack I mean if you want a 125 just go a buy one.
Written on: 24/11/2004
Gilera rcr will you shut up, I mean you say a dna sounds like a hairdrier - its the best bike on the road, your rcr is just the same hairdrier engine but with gears. Mine could out power and accelerate yours anyday. Go buy yourself a proper bike instead of the trails turn road bike you call an rcr which has no chance of beating a dna even without a bore kit.

how tall is the gilera rcr 50?
Written on: 12/04/2006
rcr's and dna's are both fairly decent bikes but on top i would choose the rcr, not just to be biased but the dna is a true road bike and i like to do a bit of off road as well so in the end both very good bikes

Hahahaha gilera rcr! Anyone that rides a dirt thingy bike don't even get a comment off me, and mmmm that DNA looks compact, but it looks a mean SOB as well not a high riding mountain bike with an engine hahahaha!!! I have a car and no bike . I'm happy with the way my car can out accelerate and out perform any of your 125s pmsl, but im gettin a DNA 125 and its gonna be good so there!!!! :P :P
