Afrodisiac is a classic! It's definitely Brandy's best work to date, and it shows growth and maturity. Also, you can really relate to this album because Brandy speaks about different topics that go on in our every day lives. This album is a must have, and it definitely was the best female R&B album of 2004.

Brandy, Afrodisiac - Long after her massive hit with "The Boy Is Mine," Brandy gets back to the game with this new album. At 25 it looks like the divorced mother has more to write about in her album other adolescent catfights. She candidly talks about the dissolution of her brief marriage on the track "Who I Am" and about keeping busybodies in check on the Kanye West-produced single "Talk About Our Love." Brandy's main collaborator here is Timbaland. After 10 years in the industry, you can definitely see that Brandy still has much more to offer + damn she is hot !. I sure brandy's fans won't be disappointed

“Brandy, Afrodisiac - With the opening track, you can...”

Brandy, Afrodisiac - With the opening track, you can immediately hear that Brandy's been through something since the days of "Full Moon". In the past 10 years, Brandy has matured into the young woman whose musical phrasing and vocal tone has came into play as seen in "Afrodisiac". I am a huge fan of "Never say Never" and "Full Moon", but with "Afrodisiac" besides from the obvious production change, Brandy speaks about personal issues which in turns come through in her vocal phrasing and production. The departure from Rodney Jerkins "Darkchild" is a big risk as Darkchild has hit after hit under his belt; but the teaming of her and Timbaland produces a new sound for her which is what artistry is all about -- reinventing youself -- think Madonna/Janet Jackson.
I can't say if this album is better than NSN or Full Moon; it is different and in a good way. Darkchild and Timbaland's production styles are totally two different things, so you can't compare them.
Brandy made an excellent choice of allowing the lead single to be a Kayne West produced track, "Talk About Our Love"! Kayne did an incredible job creating a beat that showcases Brandy's voice to the fullest. I think by far this song captures the true essence of Brandy's voice and the beat just accents this fact and doesn't overwhelm the song at no point. I see a Grammy nod for this song next year for the flawless production work as well as the universal theme of the song.
"Afrodisiac" also presents ballads in a much less traditional format. Here Brandy abandons Diane Warren -- who is one of the greatest ballad writers of our time -- and picks up ballads with edgy production and less traditional forms (meaning not ending with some big refrain, etc.).
" Should I go" is an excellent example. Timbaland samples Coldplay's "Clocks," puts some personal lyrics over it and the end result is nothing short of amazing!
So, "Afrodisiac" is a great CD. It shows us a stage in the progression of an artist, who has changed so much from the days of "I Wanna be Down". It is no surprise that all of Brandy's CDs have gone platinum. She has great artist development skills. She knows what it is people are wanting to hear and when is the best time to let them hear it. My only regret for this CD was that Mike City, producer of the track "Full Moon" from that album, was absent on this CD. His production style would have added the type of variety that may be missing from "Afrodisiac," just as it did for her last album. But still, this album is a one of the big ones for 2004 and should not be overlooked due Grammy nods. Great writing, production, and Brandy's voice at its best ----- this album is a gem!

Y'all need to head on over to MTV.com and listen to Brandy's album. It is off the meat and bones!!! I never in a million years would've thought that Brandy could put together an album like this!!! Ohmiword!!! I'm addicted already. I need this album. Especially the songs 'I Tried', 'Afrodisiac' and 'Sadiddy'. She needs to release 'I Tried' as her next single. It's got the bass, the guitar-esque feel, the organ... She took it there, popped it, locked it, dropped it...It's official. That's all I can say about this album-it's straight official!
