I've read all the horror stories but they were generally fine. Decent cars at a budget price but the thing that REALLY put me off was the constant phone calls (25 in two days). I already wanted to buy the car - I told them that - but the calls were relentless, absolutely relentless. The car itself has a couple of minor issues (to be fair - I bought it over the phone) but I'm getting them corrected at my own cost and timeframe since I'm not confident that having them done through AC is a good thing. In conclusion, for a quick turnaround and cars at a reasonable price, it's great. I did feel a bit grubby dealing with AC but perhaps that's since I have always dealt with a main dealer and am used to sharp suits, coffee in a china cup and salesmen that are tattoo-free. Still, you pays yer monies...etc. All-in-all, it's a bit of a supermarket for cars and the shelf-stackers are the salesguys. Pleasant enough but I heavily suspect that any after-sales service will be lacking, indeed ignored.

Buying a car felt traumatic to me but I bought from Arnold Clark Dundee and was delighted with everything and I do mean delighted. The whole process was smooth and never scary. It is hard to imagine my going anywhere else!

Visited stafford store having seen an advert for a used car online. The staff were friendly, attentive and very helpful. 10 days after sale we returned having noticed a few electrical faults (the sort that are only noticeable having driven the car, and that the previous owners wouldn't have declared). The team were extremely helpful in getting the faults investigated and fixed at no extra cost. Throughout our salesperson was friendly and attentive. Only advice I would say when dealing with this company. They can be reluctant to show you the MOT if there's something telling on there. Its likely to be filed away and 'admin have gone home'. Always make sure they show you the MOT beforehand, and check the tyres. That black spray they use can cover up bumps that they may have missed.

Have to say, I was worried after reading reviews on Arnold clark when I purchased my 1 yr old mazda 2 from them almost 2 years ago. However I can safely say I have never had any issues. Got an MOT & Service pack in the deal, final MOT yesterday, no issues, clean & wash car at the same time. Always call for reminders when due for service etc, and when I bought the car, staff were friendly & helpful. I don't have any complaints.

Hello. This is my second car bought in Arnold Clark. I have some experience in buying used cars and unfortunately I had to buy a car from Arnold Clark in Edinburgh, Seafield Road brunch. That was huge disappointment and I promised myself not to deal with AC anymore. On the scale 1 to 10 I’m giving them 0. But the time has come and I decided to change my car. The one that I was interested in I found at Arnold Clark in Stirling Toyota on Kerse Road. What a difference from what I experienced before in Edinburgh! The service was highly professional I must say and especially I want to praise the sale consultant. I’m giving them 10 in scale 0-10.

My wife and I bought a brand new Mazda 2 from Arnold Clark (Liverpool Motor Store)in October 2012. The Sales Service was good and the Sales man very knowledgeable about the product he was selling and when we picked the car up it was in prestige condition. However if they say you will get good mpg they are stretching the truth ALOT. It will do about 45mpg round town and about 35/40mpg (at the most) on the motor way. Good Car but mpg could be alot better.

If dealing with Arnold Clark go the Lenzie branch - ask for Scott Morrison - very helpful, there was a problem with the new car but Scott sorted this out very quickly with a replacement (not their fault brand new car with bcm missing). Not had any problems with car (touch wood)so can not comment on that side of things but this is the second time dealing with them and this time things ran more smoothly (different staff now from last time). Would go here again.

Recently traded my five year old mondeo for six month old golf at AC. I found the sales staff to be exactly what you expect from car salesmen and that really is the point. For most poeple a car purchase is the second most important purchase of their lives and it always amazes me how unguarded and gulable poeple can be when making it. There is a lot of money at stake and where's there is money there are sharks so you always have to keep your wits about you in this situation. The golf is covered by manufactures guarantee so not at all worried about that. AC initially offered me about £500 below the book price for my trade in. I made to leave and was immediately was offered the £500. I told them it still wasn't enough but I would bring my wife back to see what she thought. Brought my wife who played hardball for a while and we left to "think about it" we went to the VW main agents and were offered the same spec car same age and milage for over £3000 more than the on at AC so we phoned them and told them we wanted £250 more for the Mondeo. they phoned back three times in an hour and finally we agreed to annother £150 plus tank of fuel and proper car mats. They tried to pad the invoice with all sorts of service plans HP extended warrantee etc which I politely declined. I paid deposit by a card over phone and agreed to pick car up next day. Arrived as arranged next day. Initially told there would be a 1.5% card charge we told them we were not prepared to pay that so they waived it! Couriously I was then told that my trade in vehicle would have to have a"workshop test" I questioned this as both the salesman and his manager had examined and driven the car the previous day and we had agreed a price baised on that. " Just routine " was the reply. We completed the paperwork and made the payment by card. We discussed the purchase of other vehicles for my daughter and father in law. I was taken to the service centre to meet the service manager for some reason unknown to me. All that remained was to meet the sakes manager for a thank you. We hung around losing the will to,live for about 15 mins until the wife who is usually on a short fuse at the best of times told them we were about to leave in out new car at which point the salesman produced a report from their check on my Mondeo stating that it had faults amounting to some £600 I understood this to be a headlight washer and an oil leak. I knew about the washer and so should they because there was a large hole in the front of the car where it used to be. the oil leak was nonsense. My Mondy is four year old properly serviced 2.5 Titainium x with the Volvo Duratic engine and only 50 odd thousand on the clock It is regularly parked on our flag drive which I swill down once a with with a power washer. I haven't seen the merest wisp if oil from it!! I don't know if they were trying something on but we asked them why they were telling us this a this late stage in the proceedings. The salesman seemed upset so we said our goodbyes and left. All this was such a pity and did leave a bitter taste because otherwise we were very happy with the service and the car itself which on the face of it is a little cracker. I suppose time will tell but I can't say I'm not concerned having now read all these awful reviews of AC. By the way it wasn't a full tank only turned out to be three quarters! I haven't got the heart to complain!

Purchased a second hand Mazda 6 from Arnold Clark Toyota Ayr. I was given a decent trade in price and the Mazda was competitively priced. When i collected the car it was immaculate inside and out. I had a small problem after about a month. Phoned Graham in service dept.Part was ordered and fitted under warranty when it arrived. Car was washed and cleaned inside before i collected it. Service department could not have been more helpful. This is my second Mazda from Arnold Clark and i would certainly recommend them.

Part exchanged a VX Fox 08 plate for Hyundai i20 59 plate September 2010 at Oldbury branch, Couldn't fault the salesman; polite and no attempt to rip me off. Had a good deal and the i20 was immaculate with extremely low mileage. Noticed the locking nut remover for the alloys was missing once I'd had the car for a bit and they replaced the nuts free of charge no hassle. Only ever had polite service when I have spoken with them. My husband has recently purchased a car and is also very happy so far. Based on the service we have had I would definitely recommend buying a car.

Bought a used 2008 Jaguar xj6 diesel of them in May and so far no issues. The car came from their Scotland branch so they bought it down to Birmingham. No pressure, polite and easy to deal with. the car was described as perfect, although upon further inspection it had a fag burn and a couple of minor scratches - but I think I would have still bought it at the price they were offering. they also took my old jag on a part ex without inspecting it - but it was a low figure in comparison to selling it privately. The car is worth £6k more in Bristol than I paid for it.

I purchased a used car recenty from AC Stafford.
The staff were nice, and helpful.
The car had stone chips and lacked some of the extras I wanted.
I asked them to spray the chips and install the extras I wanted. This was done by the next morning and I took the car.
I have nothing but praise for them. Will buy again.

Had the famous VW ESP problem, with assistance from Arnold Clark got 60% towards repair (I still don't think that's enough) but AC refunded me the £75 I had to pay to confirm that the well documented fault with VW cars was in fact present in my car. I have purchased over the years 7 cars from Arnold Clark and this is the first one I have had a problem with, and this was and is a manufacturers fault. So I will have no problems returning to Arnold Clark in the future to purchase another (not VW) car.

I bought a new Renault clio from Arnold Clark and i found they were a dream un till i had to contact them. They never phoned me back and then when they finally did i found my warranty had run out and i had to pay for the fault which was quite expensive. I am extremely angry with this as i found that Arnold Clark was fine un till i needed the service department. Very poor

Good service from arnold clark, I just bought a 1 year old car and consider that I got quite a good deal. I would have given then 5 stars if they still had the free inter depot transfer of cars whereby they would get any car from any branch to your local Arnold Clark outlet without making a charge, the previous car that I bought from them was obtained by this method and brought from the Ayr branch to the Aberdeen Tullos branch for me at no cost.

After reading these reviews I believe I have been very lucky in dealing with Arnold Clark. I have purchased two used vechicles over 4years from AC Renault at Warrington. The first was a Renault Laguna which I still own, they gave me brilliant service and an excellent deal. I live some 220 miles from Warrington but visit relatives a couple of times a year. AC agreed to deliver the car down to me on a fixed date which they missed. I was then invited to travel up to Warrington by train/taxi to pick up the car. On arrival they paid me for all the travel costs, even filling up the car for the return journey. The second car a Corsa was purchased from them last September and this time they did deliver on time. The rear parcel shelf was missing but to give them there due they sent a new one down to me. Went over to Warrington and ended up changing my wifes car. One happy customer!!

Cheaper than Vardys or Verve. I've just bought my 6th car from Arnold Clark. I've been to a few different branches and i've never had any problems. The only time i've returned a car was for the annual service - these were always ok aswell.
Think some people are simply too picky!

I bought my car last week after seeing the Real Sale at Arnold Clark advertised in my local paper. - everything went so smoothly I thought i'd share my experiences.
Before going to the branch i logged onto the Arnold Clark website to see if they had anything in my price range (just had a new baby so things are tight). i also wanted something really reliable and safe with having a baby. The site was pretty good compared to some of my other local dealer chains and i saw three actual cars that i wanted to buy - having photos of the actual cars is a bonus - it means you can see exact colours, shape, wheels, inside seats etc. both my husband and my brother in law (a mechanic) came with me to see my final choices and narrow it down to one...I eventually settled on a renault megane 1.6 petrol. My brother checked it all out before i bought it, and it was in great condition!
the branch also sorted out tax and stuff for me, which was a great help.
i'm glad i wasn't put off by some of the rumours - would lso definitely recommend the Megane - cool but reliable - definitely my favourite so far!
