“Dodgy parts and poor customer service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bill0808 on 21/02/2024

Got my car and a 3 years service/MOT package. In year 2 a suspension arm was replaced, in year 3 I was told the same part had snapped, they claimed it was 5 days beyond the warranty period. This is a part I've never had to replace before in all my time driving let alone twice in a year and 5 days. I raised a complaint about this and was initially fobbed off, only after leaving reviews was I contacted, but nothing was done or offered other than an apology and repeated excuses. I wouldn't go near them again, even if you have a service/MOT package with them you may find yourself better off having them done somewhere else. I wish I had.

“DONT EVER BUY FROM THEM!”

written by fkNeville479 on 02/01/2024

Well, I bought my ds3 April 2023 and its only January 2024. Since the day I had bought it. All it did was go into limp mode and light flashes saying " engine faulty! I got it home bare in mine I bought the car in Doncaster branch and I live in Hertfordshire. Since April I had a new exhaust in july which i had to fight for as it was sold wirh a hole ( have pic to prove), the engine and oil time belt went I'm September. Since then I complained to my fiance company and they are fighting my battle for arnold clark to pay for repairs. Warranty covers 4066 and my fiance has asked them to pay the rest as the car been faulty since bought only in the last 6 months if that. I had customer service and the Doncaster branch back and forth abd won't speak to me. I financially out of pocket as the garage that my car stored at want to charge for storage 600 pounds. It's not their fault because we all waiting Since Oct 2023 for a final say from arnold clark techinal team if pay the repairs. So yes it has not been a easy peasy bought. I have asked for courstey car nothing! I also still have to pay fiance for a car that I'm not using 160 pounds a month! I had to take transport and ask friends to help me get to work and hospitals appointments. So yes I am mighty angry. Who wouldn't be? When you been bummed off and lack of communication. So thanks ArnoldClark for your lack of help and good customer service!!

“Apathetic customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Pezmeister on 13/12/2023

Purchased a nearly new car from AC a year ago, car lost power on fast lane of motorway on 27/11/23. Rang them only to be told, warranty runs out in 2 days and we can’t fit you in until mid January. Receptionist was curt and kept talking over the top of me, then my calls were ignored. What compounded the issue was not being supplied with owners manual, service history or warranty details. Paying for a car that has been off the road for over two weeks. No courtesy car or any other assistance. I vowed never to deal with AC again after a similar experience back in 1998, but was desperate after my last car was stolen.

“Avoid Arnold clark”

written by Siliaki30 on 01/09/2023

We bought a car from Arnold Clark this January and after a month a couple of issues started happening. We gave the car for repairs and total costed us 1300 pounds and this was required to pass MOT as well. Previous time we went to Arnold clark, they didn't help us at all with the repairs.

“Buy elsewhere”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ABrookes on 12/07/2023

I wanted to write a very truthful and honest review of Arnold Clark in order that people considering buying a car from there can consider whether they really want to do so after hearing about my experience. I purchased a VW Tiguan from the Huddersfield branch in March 2023. On arrival at the site, I had a bad fall on ice that had not been cleared on the forecourt. I am still suffering now with a shoulder injury, yet this is continually being ignored by the company. On test driving the car, an indicator fault showed up. I was told by the sales representative that this was only because the car was very cold due to the bad weather. Naively, I thought no more of it and left with the car. I was a bit disappointed as I had bought the car from seeing videos sent to me and it was actually more scratched than I had realised. That said, at this point I still thought I was getting a good deal. Over the next few weeks, several other faults, including both indicators and engine warning lights, started to show up on the car. I reported this to the branch as it was within the 3 month warranty period. Eventually they agreed I could take the car to a VW dealership for a diagnostic. Before this could happen, an even worse fault occurred. The collision avoidance system, which slams on the breaks if it thinks you are at risk of crashing, started to kick in of its own accord. This happened once on a luckily empty motorway at 70mph and again when slowing down rounding a corner, at which point a car very nearly went into the back of me. The car then went straight to VW who ascertained that all of these faults were to do with a faulty part which needed replacing. Unfortunately, said part was made in Ukraine and so VW said it would be months until I could get a repair. Because having no car meant I could not work, I asked Arnold Clark to provide a hire car. They repeatedly refused and said it was something they could not do. I received an email from a service manager with whom I had been in contact, saying that he had spoken to VW and they had said the car was safe to drive until my part arrived and that I could go and collect it. I was obviously dubious due to my recent experiences whilst driving the car, and so called VW to confirm that this was in fact correct. Only to be informed that no, they had never told Arnold Clark this and that the car was absolutely not safe to drive. This lie could have caused myself or other road users serious injury. I was offered my money back on the faulty car or a replacement like for like vehicle. Unfortunately, they had no like for like vehicles in stock. I suggested they might replace the car with a slightly newer vehicle, as it was the most similar they had in stock. They agreed though said I had to pay the difference and also 25p per mile for the dangerous car I had been driving. I point blank refused and eventually, after a long time spent on the phone, they agreed to just give me this replacement vehicle for the same price as my faulty one. I was at that point satisfied. However, this order was placed at the start of June and I still have not received the vehicle. A delivery date came and went several times. I was told that a car transport company has picked up the wrong vehicle which caused a delay. This again turned out to be a lie further down the line, as actually the replacement vehicle was still waiting on a part. To this point I had lost out on income due to not being mobile and was still paying off a car loan, breakdown cover, insurance and tax whilst having no vehicle to show for it. Arnold Clark then eventually agreed to get me a hire car. They paid for a week’s hire so I could work, just until the replacement car arrived. Low and behold. The delivery date came and went again. I called customer services who said they would deal with the hire company and sort out me keeping the hire vehicle, as well as the payment for it. I then saw that the payment from the hire car was actually coming out of my bank account, as Arnold Clark had not bothered to contact the hire company as they said they would. I have been met with many rude customer service advisors, saying they have no obligation to keep me mobile, despite the fact that they sold me a dangerous car and then lied to try to keep me driving it. The latest resolution is that I can have my money back on the original faulty vehicle, plus £100 as a ‘goodwill gesture’. I am still fighting them for the injustice of my treatment at their hands and have spoken to Citizens Advice and contacted an Ombudsman. Coupled with constant unfulfilled callbacks and a general ‘couldn’t care less attitude’, I must say, I wish I had never got involved in the first place. Please do think twice before buying from this company as it seems that profit comes above all else and customer care and wellbeing is nothing to them.

“Avoid buying from Arnold Clark ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MihaiMihaescu on 24/04/2023

I don't want to bother you with specific information about my experience. All I want to say is if you bought a car from Arnold Clark and you need help under the warranty, expect for zero help from them. They will avoid your phone calls and ignore your emails. After many times to get in contact with them, I ended up repairing the car at my own cost. The only reason I chose Arnold Clark was the long time trade and I thought it's a reputable company. But I couldn't be more wrong. If you want to avoid disappointment please make yourself a favor and don't give them your hard earned money. I also advise my family members, friends, acquaintances, co-workers, neighbors to avoid them at all costs. Maybe there are some honest people within Arnold Clark company, but the company management is way below expectations. Especially in Volvo Inverness branch. My honest advice for you is make yourself a favor and stay away from them.

“Worst Customer Service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by PazSharma on 23/03/2023

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING YOUR VEHICLE AT ARNOLD CLARKE IN LEEDS: My experience at this branch has definitely been my worst customer service experience to date. Our journey started off with a simple search on autotrader looking the ideal car for our family. After finding the most suitable vehicle we contacted Arnold Clarke in Leeds about an Audi SQ7 and spoke to a sales representative. At first he was professional and continually contacted myself through the process to close the deal. After several calls from him an agreement was confirmed and the car was secured with a deposit. We were advised that the car would be ready within a few working days as the vehicle was ready to go but would only need a valet. The next day I received a text message from sales manager to contact him regarding the vehicle to which he advised me that the vehicle had presented itself with an engine fault displaying a light on the dashboard. He then advised us that the car would go to Audi for a diagnostic as the Arnold Clarke repair centre didn't have the tools/equipment to fix the issue however had diagnosed the problem. At this point he stated that the car was booked in at the end of the week for repair with Audi. This went on for an average of 3 weeks and we were having to chase Adam and his branch for updates as they were not calling us with updates. On several occasions I spoke to the receptionist who advised me that Adam and the branch manager were busy and would receive a call back but this didn't happen every time. Even to a point that the receptionist advised me to call Audi myself for an update which I eventually did. After calling Audi, they told me that the car had 3 issues and the cost was an average of £7k repair and that Arnold Clarke had not signed the work off to be completed. From this point for weeks we didn't hear anything from Arnold Clarke with an update and we were calling every week at least 2/3 times for an update ourselves. At this stage we contacted the Customer Service at Arnold Clarke HQ who said it would take take up to 48 hours for them to get an update and allow the branch to contact us from the complaint they had added to the system. Again..no call from the branch. We then contacted customer service again, this time they stayed on the phone whilst they got the branch manager to be added to the call. Finally got talking to the branch manager who clearly stated that it was not his responsibility to get involved in customer service complaints and that the car was now with an Audi specialist to be repaired. He also advised that he would get an update in a few days and call me with an update. 5 days went on an no call from anyone! Luckily I had at this stage started to look at cars elsewhere and found the same make and model of vehicle at a different dealer. Within 2 days of the deal I had collected the new car and even then I didn't get a call from Arnold Clarke. Moving forward I had called customer service and requested for my deposit back which I am now waiting for. My conclusion: Arnold Clarke in the past was in my eyes one of the best dealers from the experience of my last two cars, but I can honestly say I would never ever recommend them to anyone again. It may be that you get a good deal from Arnold Clarke but their aftercare is the worst within the used car industry. Even with them offering a 2 year warranty with my deal and not able to arrange a repair before I even collected the car shows how insufficient their warranty and aftercare is. This really needs to be reviewed by the senior operations manager to make them aware how pathetic the customer service is at the Arnold Clarke Leeds branch. What's even strange is that within a day of requesting my deposit back, the car has gone back on sale as seen on their site which only reflects that the branch must have either made an error in the deal they offered us which due to their loss were just fobbing us off so we cancel the order or they have done a bodge job of the repair.

“Avoid”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Angelique287 on 22/11/2022

Avoid. Car aircon went 2mth after purchasing. Paid for a new compressor but it has never worked for more than 2mth at a time. It has been back in 4 times and they keep saying they can't find what is wrong and keeps topping it up with coolant which drains and the car goes back in. Now they want over £300 again for a new aircon that they have never fixed in the first place. They are a definition of a big corporation taking money from hard working people and saying you can't dl anything about it because we are bigger than you. It makes me sick.

“Warrantee means nothing”

written by 5007 on 09/11/2022

Don't be fooled that the year warranty means anything when you buy a car from this company. We told Arnold Clarke when we bought our car from them that the clutch seemed to be slipping. They agreed and told us to have it seen to within the year, and it woukd be fixed for free. Really? I don't think so. We took a while to get it seen to, but within the year. Will they cover this? Of course not. Don't be fooled. By all means buy a car from them, but don't believe any faults will be covered. You might as well burn your warranty and save your energy.

MISSION STATEMENT IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE!

“Arnold SHARK is more appropriate ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EvangelineLockhart on 07/10/2021

I cannot stress how much Arnold Clark should be avoided. I bought a car from the Preston Motorstore in June of this year. The vehicle had multiple issues when sold to me, that were all reported immediately. One issue should have been an MOT failure, and another was a catastrophic failure of the central locking. On reporting the issues to Arnold Clark, they attempted and failed to resolve. On further reporting the issues remaining after the failed attempt to repair, Arnold Clark’s Service Manager, then claimed there was no fault. On formally rejecting the vehicle, the car was independently inspected by the manufacturer who were horrified that the car had been sold in a dangerous condition. The upshot was that the car has been rejected with the finance provider, although Arnold Clark have still tried to wriggle out of it. The General Manager, was the biggest snake of them all, and had zero idea about what he was doing. He provided conflicting information at every step, information through even conflicted with Arnold Clark HQ. The guy was a liability to both me and to Arnold Clark. My assessment of Arnold Clark is that they live up to their nickname within the industry of “Arnold Shark”. They sell dodgy motors, and their service staff are either incompetent in being unable to correctly carry out their duties, or are fully negligent in identifying and covering up issues. The customer service department is a joke too. I’ve contacted them with this as a complaint, and their initial answer amounted to “go away, your finance provider has sorted you out” (obviously not in those words). On pressing the complaint back to them, I’ve now received an equally dismissive response. In short, these people will take your money, put you and your safety at risk, and will take no responsibility for doing so.

“Terrible stay away. ”

Arnold Clark stay clear of this business because I got my clutch fixed just before lockdown I complained the next day after getting it back because the clutch went right down to the floor and I couldn’t get the car out my drive then a few days after that the same happen again and the little light come on they said it was a glow plug an unrelated problem and then eventually they took it back in and gave me a courtesy car and said they repaired it as a good will jesture. Then during lockdown this kept happening I phoned up but the garage was shut due to the complete lockdown then after this it kept happening but I thought it was maybe just because the car was on the drive and not been used now the car being used more the problem keeps happening. Asked another garage to look and they said defo clutch. Phoned Vauxhall today and they said no out of warranty even though hardly used the whole time of warranty due to lockdown and isolation. Even due to covid no consideration from this garage extending the warranty? Some business are greedy during hard times so stay clear of Arnold Clark Vauxhall Ayr.

“Worst Company Ever!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Amyallan12 on 25/06/2021

Took my car for a service on a Friday at 11am. Dropped my car off had to get work done to a tyre, tried to book the work and was told all tradesman had finished for the day as it was a friday and they finish early. Which i understood. Got my car back and it was making a noise. I complained got the car checked and they told me i’d need a new clutch. Just had my MOT the month before and nothing was said about needing this work done. Car was perfectly fine until they serviced it. Staff were rude about situation and tried to blame me even though i explained this wasn’t happening until they touched the car. I have also only had my car for 2 years and the car is 4 years old and was in excellent condition. I wouldn’t buy a car from Arnold Clark again. They only care about sales and not looking after customers or their car. Would not recommend to anyone!

“Such bad customer service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Taniyahd1952 on 21/02/2021

I don’t know how much this company pays people to give them a good review but it must be a lot, because I have constantly received the worst costumer service ever and I’ve only been with them for 6 months. I had loads of difficulty at the start with my car and documents etc. and the customer service was shocking, not helpful at all. And today, it was worse. I went to get my car serviced, after the service was completed I find out that there were a few issues with the car (that I’ve had for just 6 month). I called the branch to find out how there could already be issues with the car, considering I received it 6 month ago and since then we’ve been in lockdown, so it hasn’t really been running that much. I wanted to find out a bit more about this, as I thought it was ridiculous that the car already needed work. I asked the customer service adviser if he could explain what could cause the issues, because I just didn’t understand. The customer service adviser I spoke to, Ric Pratt, was obviously having a bad day or just not understanding what I was trying to ask, as he began to raise his voice at me. I asked him very nicely why he was getting so agitated, and asked him to calm down. It took a while for him to calm down and actually speak to me and not shout. I’m a teacher and I don’t even think I’ve ever raised my voice at a pupil like Ric raised his voice. I think he must of known that the company was in the wrong and became very defensive. Arnold Clarks ready needs to work on it’s customer service team, and also make sure that they cars they sell are in perfect condition before handing them to customers..
