I had one of these when i was a kid but unfortunaltley was taken from me by the establishment subject to self defence. This air rifle was no other than quality. Highly accurate and extremely powerfull. This gun dropped birds off the power lines and out of trees. As Kids we had a problem with black birds and wild pigeons. All who used this air rifle were amaized with its groups. I found this gun to be the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I will keep my eye opened for a replacement. Nothing is made these days like it was years ago. I now have a gamo and norico air gun and think they are great but dont compare the old baikal (vostok) .177 air rifle.

I've had my IZH-38 for years. I had it thrown in for free back in 1990 when I bought a Baikal Under and Over Shotgun off him.The shotgun still gets used on ducks and rabbits and the air rifle is still going as if it just come out of the box.I bought my young bloke an air rifle for his 10th birthday and it was knackered within 18 months. He ended up using the old trusty IZH-38 and never looked back. I can't fault this gun, O.K I'm sure there are some of you out there that will find something wron ...

Got mine as a hand-me-down from my pops back in 1980ish. He had it way before then though. SN# is E12235 which makes this REALLY old! Pops and I put thousands of .177 CAL pellets through this and it has never quit. Just rebuilt it a few days ago and just found out who made it at the same time (searching for specs). its so old that the Air Piston has plied and folded LEATHER seals which are greased up the wazoo. The grease used is really stinky and almost black so I replaced it with some new ...

I was bought the Baikal IZH-38 for my 16th birthday, which was in 1989. My model has given many hours of fun and been very reliable. However, from time to time the locking pin for the barrel can be a bit hit and miss with locking, if you snap the barrel together too quickly. This though, is possibly due to age, rather than anything else.

My model is marked with the inscription "Made in USSR" and "Vostok" on the right hand side of the breach and 87044705 on the left. I would love to find out m ...

We bought our rifle in 1980 and it is one of the Made in USSR ones. It was bought for shooting cans in the garden and playing about. I have now started target shooting again after many years off and this is the first time the rifle has actually had any number of pellets through it. Milbro Caledonians seem very tight in the breech so I'm going to try others. I have despatched the odd cat-mauled pigeon with it! Overall I like this rifle but find the stiff trigger a bug-bear.

Thanks to the Baikal IZH-38 sweet break-barrel rifle, I have firm faith in Baikal as a manufacturer that produces solid, durable and quality rifles that resist the effects of time extremely well.

Not so long ago, my Baikal IZH-38 with an equally old 4x20 scope fitted was adequate to successfully hit the lids and bases of empty pellet tins (around 7cm in diameter) stood up from approximately 20-25m, without support from bipods or bench rests. It's a rifle with Consistently good performance, ev ...

Originally I was planned to get a IZH-61 from a local hobby shop but it was run out of stock, and instead the shop owner showed me this used .177 cal. IZH-38 break- barrel action air rifle in excellent condition. I was quite surprised that "Made in USSR" is stamped on the right side of the breech block above the BAIKAL logo, indicates it is a product of Cold War era. Also it included the extra such as an antiquated Bushnell 4x optic and a sling- all for $90 CAD. I decided that it is a good de ...
