I missed a payment by one day, I was charged £20.00 late payment fee plus my interest rate went from 0% to 22%. When I spoke to customer service they were not very sympathetic with me missing a payment date despite me being a customer of 10 years.
So its now time to leave MBNA and join a more ethical card issuer.

I applied for MBNA platinum credit card and was rejected by them although my credit history is quite good and have never defaulted on a payment. They said we can't offer you a reward credit card but a normal credit card but you have to send a 100 pounds check and which will be credited to your account once you start your shopping. This is ridiculous.

I have had one of these cards for a number of years, with an interest rate of 6.9%. They recently upped the rate to 12.9%, then this week again upped it to 21.9%.I have never missed a payment or spent even half of my £5k limit. If you do get one of these cards, be prepared to switch quickly if they do the same to you.

This card is MBNA/HSBC Direct Merchants. I fought and argued to no avail. Now I have to wait and see if it hurts my credit at all. There are many places on the web that say keep your oldest cards and that canceling them will drop your score even though nothing was wrong with the account. I guess I'll find out soon.

MBNA used to be an excellent credit card provider but sadly that is changing. I am in the process of closing all my accounts with them and moving to an ethical credit card company. Nobody in this world expects something for nothing but sadly it appears MBNA are no longer interested in customer service but squeezing customers for everything they can get.
Good luck!

I do not blame mbna in a way, because postal service we receive here is pathetic, I received my statement for another credit card which was posted in November received in January. Postal service should be answerable, why it took them so long to deliver a letter, over 2 moths delay. Pathetic service good thing I pay by direct debit. Clever thinking otherwise I would have messed my credit report, plus, late payment, higher interest rates, and ruined credit worthiness.

I had a MBNA Conran Credit card which promised cashback (see countless websites if you do a search on Google). The credit card was closed down all of a sudden and, to cut a long story short, I have missed out of receiving cashback on the card that I used for months. I have literally wasted hours trying to get the cashback, but MBNA have come up with every excuse in the book, going so far as to explain on seven separate occasions that the Conran card never offered cashback in the first place. I t ...

I don't have the problem that a lot of people on these forums have! I love my
MBNA Premier Rewards Platinum Plus card. I have been with mbna a little over two years and despite my past credit issues they increased my limit from 500 to 3000. I have been 30 days late first time and MBNA never increased my interest rate, in fact when I was late I had a call from mbna from a really kind gentlemen who seemed genuinely concerned about my situation and worked with me to get my account up to date an ...

I signed up for an MBNA Credit Card on campus in order to get a free T shirt. I got the shirt, and soon after the card arrived, several "convenience checks" started arriving. The problem is that anyone could snatch these checks out of my mailbox and go draining my CC account.
I of course called MBNA and told them to stop sending them to me. The representative was unfriendly. They removed my name from that list, and I received more checks, even 60 days after my request to cancel (there is a '60 ...

For me, all credit cards are much the same, you just need to weigh up the benefits they offer to you; be they cashback, low interest rates or freebies.
What makes MBNA stand out for me is the ease of the online account management and the call centres ability to solve problems if they arise.

Go for the 'Alterna' Platinum Plus card!
I wasn't asked for my Alterna account number when I signed up online, so I doubt they checked to see that I was a customer.

I used to have some other credit cards and store cards but, being truthful, after getting the MBNA Platinum Plus I cancelled all of them. MBNA provide a very prompt service and I have a huge credit limit so I don't need any other cards. It is very easy for me to maintain just one card. Online account updates are very quick and it's easy enough to understand all the transactions. I recommend you all get it.

We had a MBNA Platinum Plus credit card and paid the balance in full from our internet bank account. MBNA claim they could not tell who the payment was from and returned it to our bank without reference. We only found out two months later when MBNA sent a statement claiming no payments had been made and demanding late payment fees and interest. The payment was then found in our bank unidentified money account, and it has been refunded to us. MBNA are still demanding the late payment fees plus in ...

I closed the card because of the organisation's sponsorship of George Bush. Unfortunately, they continue to send me mail and it feels impossible to be able to cancel the card.

I got the new credit card and informed them of my direct debit details. They missed the first payment as they had not set me up, and they had this for more than a month. So MBNA charged me 25 quid as a late fee on my Platinum Plus credit card and also the interest. I said I was unhappy with this. They refunded the 25 quid but not the interest. When I asked "why not the interest"? they said it was company policy and they wouldn't. This is really not fair, and I won't use MBNA again.

The card works just fine, but the advertising scheme that got me to enroll promised "free round trip air fare." This "free" air fare turned out to be contingent upon booking hotel reservations for a minimum of one week at very expensive resorts. As soon as I can, I will switch this card with another one that is more honest in their marketing.

I owned the MBNA Platinum Plus credit card for a long while, only making the odd small transaction that I paid off pretty much straight away.
The few times I eventually needed to make larger payments and carry them over to later months, was when I was stung. After a couple of late fees, caused due to them moving their payment dates around, I set up a Direct Debit to pay off the minimum monthly repayment. I was assured this would take care of things for me. 3 months later I saw that I had been ...

I have been in control of the MBNA credit card for over 15 years, and may I say that I have never missed a payment, and I have always paid more than the minimum, and I am being charged an interest rate well above the norm. Every time I receive a bill notice the interest rate keeps going up (29 +%) and up. I will have you know that if the interest rate on my card by the next bill doesn't reduce by 1/2 and then some, I will be forced to look for a different company that won't do this type of busin ...

I had cancelled transactions processed and debited from an account. MBNA charged an unreasonable interest charge of 25% on transactions. Poor contact-ability. See how long you wait to talk to a human after you have found your way around their menu when you call them! If you can find your way around their menu that is. There's more, but I get more angry about them the more I sit here and tap away my anger about them, so I'll stop now. One thing I would advise, and that is get to see ALL, and I me ...

I find MBNA's ethic so poor that I am closing my account of 7 years. They sent me a letter with a bold print cover page stating that it was a "brief summary". This "summary" stated many minor advantages, such as free additional cards and protection against fraud. However, the fine print (three legal size pages) of the letter had many surprises, such as
1. Adding a default clause, so that if I was every late in my payment the interest rate on my whole balance became 24.999%
2. They were raisi ...
