    I had no real problem with my Nationwide BS Classic Card until I tried to hire a car with it at Pisa airport. The car was already paid for, but the car hire company needed the card for a deposit. Nationwide refused to authorise the transaction, and I had no other card, potentially leaving me stranded in Italy without transport. Fortunately my wife's Nationwide credit card was accepted, though that caused practical problems with the insurance as she didn't want to drive in Italy and the hire then had to be in her name.

    When I got home I asked Nationwide why my card had been refused, whilst my wife's was accepted for the same transaction. No explanation has been provided, and they haven't even apologised for the inconvenience. I think this is poor customer service, and I'm now looking for a different card.

    Had the card for a number of years with no problems. Until I sent a cheque payment of £150 which they paid towards my credit card account. The cheque cleared and the money came out of my current account. The following month I received a statement which said I had missed the previous months payment, the £150 had been added back on again as though I had never paid! - this was despite them having received and cleared the cheque. After getting in touch I was told they had never received ...

    I was impressed by the offering of this Nationwide BS Classic Card on a routine phone call to their call centre regarding a query on my flex account, the agent advised me that she thought it would be useful for me to apply based on my credit score, and suggested I gave it a try, to which I did, and was accepted.

    The Nationwide BS Classic Card is an okay card after some teething problems. I had a nightmare setting up a Direct Debit, it took 4 attempts my wife and I got a card each as we were travelling abroad, we told them where we were going to but they blocked the cards as soon as we started to use them in the USA.
    It took over an hour on the phone to get them re-instated.
