OK, so I use a smartphone in the UK but I work a lot in out of the way rural places in countries without much cover. This phone still rocks, battery lasts forever and the antenna picks up signals when a modern phone registers nothing. One really really good feature is its little flashing light when a call is missed . . . makes it easy to find it when it's mislaid around the house. If you need a phone for the the places where the wild things are then look for one of these second hand, you... (read more)

The Motorola CD930 was very efficient. the problem was that it was a bit bulky and heavy due to the battery which was made of lithium. (read more)

I purchased my CD930 about 8 years ago and it has not let me down once, I still have the same battery in it from day one, when I am down the pub with my mates they have to go outside to get a decent signal on the new fancy phones they have got, I can take and make calls without moving which is great. Motorola, please keep on making this model as when my CD930 does give, I will purchase another one. (read more)

Picked this Motorola cd930 mobile phone up from Carphone Warehouse in January 2001 for £9.99 (should have been £19.99 but traded my old PAYG phone in).
Picked the phone because it was on BT Cellnet who have v.cheap call rates (you can't argue with 2p per minute at weekends).
Excellent value for money; the voice recorder came in very handy and it was very easy to navigate.
The only downside was the lack of tunes for ringtones and when you got a text you saw the number but not the name, even...

When i got my mobile phone my mom made me choose between a motorola cd930 and a nokia 3210; i chose the motorola but after a while (about 2 years) i bought a nokia. Now i've gone back to using my good old motorola again because of all the problems i had with the nokia. i only wish it wouldn't be so darn complicated to find something.. and my fingers hurt from the hard buttons.
Anyway, it's a really great phone - BUY ONE JUST DO IT!!

This is a great phone with good characteristics and extremely big on quality of reception. This phone can reach the signal where other's can't and you can talk without any distraction during low signal as long as you have at least one dice! (read more)

Motorola really shows its thoughtlessness with this sad product from the end of the nineties. Clearly the design team failed to appreciate the need for the most basic end-to-end functional design -- "obviously"-needed functions are completely missing from the handset. For example, one cannot access the phone book while sending an SMS, so first one has to write down the receiver's number on a piece of paper, then compose the SMS, then reenter the number. Nor can one "reply" to an SMS: the... (read more)

Both my wife and I have this phone and we never have problems with the SMS functions. After using the message editor, send message and scroll down to 'Find Entry by Name' and off you go!
I agree that it is a good phone and we can't complain, we only paid £15 each for ours and that included £5 of calls on Bt Cellnet.

Perhaps reading the instruction booklet will help you to understand how to operate the phone.

For it's money this is a quiet a good phone, has some very good features (see above), but has some very irritating drawbacks; if you want to send a message, you have first look in the phonebook, try to remember someone's number or you can write it on a piece of paper, then compose your text and them send it by using someone's phone number. Received messages don't have a caller ID, so if you want to know who sent it, you have to check your phonebook (mine contains about 80 numbers so it can... (read more)

why not get your friends to include their name in the text message. it would also help if you read the instuction more carefully. I managed to work out how to send an sms without reading the manual. common sense prevails.

I have cd 930 and I like it a lot. About the SMS bad functioning, I can tell that if you write the message in Message Editor and after that go and check the number, the message still exist in the message editor, so it's easy to use it. I don't mind this, remembering the number of the phone book, because it takes several seconds to address the message editor and just type the no. you've remembered.
It's easy and it's accessible. Txs.

I part exchanged a c12 for £15 and got this for £14.99 brand new from carphone warehouse. It is on new cellnet pay and go which is best prepay package on market, offering calls from just 2p! just ahead of orange. I wanted to get one of these for some time as it is 2 years old and will not be in production for too much longer. This fone is £79.99 on orange in some web shops. Not widely available although Morrisons are selling them for £29.99 on Orange which is excellent value. Only other... (read more)

Looks good - feels good - performance is good and so is the functionality. This phone does just about everything you would expect of a mobile and a couple of extras (such as 3 minutes worth of VoiceNotes) - and it even has a little style as well - cool phone. But God help you if you have any problems with it!!! When the phone is working it is excellent, but if it develops a fault (and you haven't got insurance from your network) you have to deal with customer services. You may require... (read more)
