This company is a total rip off. I have been with them for 37 years made 1 claim for snow damage which they have refused to pay. They didn't contact me for month so I phoned them only to be told they wouldn't pay.Still waiting for written conformation so phoned again and was told they wouldn't send letter because they told me on the phone.Phoned to tell them I was not renewing my policy only to be asked when my car renewal was due......insensitive or very stupid? Customer service worst... (read more)

“Prudential Home Insurance ”

Written on: 21/10/2012

We made a claim recently and I have to say that Prudential were good. They dealt with the initial report very quickly and sent a plumber around within 24 hours followed quickly by someone to look at the damage. The insurers dealing with the property took 2 weeks to even get anyone around. Cover was new for old and although they quibled about a few items on the whole we were very pleased with the settlement they offered and the way they handled it. The only critisisn would be their use of a... (read more)

“The Insurance Company from Hell ...”

Written on: 20/07/2012

Made a claim on storm damage. Adjuster got evidence wrong. Prudential customer relations non-existent. Phone just rings. Email address provided to send evidence didn't work. Tried to complain to Head of Customer Relations, Steve Grimwade, but his staff instructed not to give out his number to customers. Staff untrained and rude. Correspondence and advice provided by staff completely contradictory. Over two months later still trying to get sensible assessment. Completely hopeless company ...... (read more)

Tiredofwaiting's Comment

Poor you. I've been waiting for a year and can hardly bear to see their name - I read about people having nervous breakdowns dealing with them and the only thing that stops me is I wont give them the satisfaction. If there were no stars available - or a minus number I'd add it. They delay, they contradict, they fob you off. They use UK Assistance as a kind of buffer and are ambiguous about their relationship with them. Passing you back and forth is a great way to delay things even further. And ... I love the way that if you complain they just send you a form letter back that basically repeats some of what you said, doesn't deal with anything important and then - surprise surprise - finds that they are doing a great job. With that they include a leaflet of how to complain to the ombudsman. It's like the ultimate middle finger at the customer!

“Unbelievably incompetent!”

Written on: 26/05/2012

My father had buildings and contents insurance. There was storm damage to his roof in December 2011 but my father died on January 1st 2012. I, as his sole executor, have been trying to get a refund of the grand sum of £285 for roof repairs. I have made umpteen telephone calls to Prudential and talk to people who each tell me a different story and I have sent umpteen letters. They sent me a cheque with the wrong payee and I reutrned it. This morning I received a further cheque and as... (read more)

“After being a loyal customer of prudential and not...”

Written on: 03/05/2012

After being a loyal customer of prudential and not claiming a penny, I realised that since I was paying by direct debit and my home insurance was renewed automatically, they have over charged me for years. I complanined to them before renewal in April 2012 on the reason and was given reasons beyond belief. See correspondences I have had to have with the Board of Directors of Prudential who have simply not taken any serious steps to offer me a competative rate for the renwal. I have now... (read more)

My story is exactly the same as yours, only the Insurance Company that has been stealing my hard earned cash for the last 7 years is Zurich! I have written a strongly worded letter to them and received a pathetic response today, no word of compsensation or a better quote for this year. I first agreed to the policy in 2005 for £33.69 a month and the 2012 quote is £62 per month. What a joke! I had no idea previously that they wouldn't be charging the average market rate. I've had a quote from the AA, which is £27.00 per month. I will need to move on but I am so mad that they are getting away with this kind of treatment. I think the answer is to check the competition every year.

“The Prudential's claims handling service is dreadful. ...”

Written on: 25/11/2010

The Prudential's claims handling service is dreadful. It has changed in recent years, I suspect since they were bought by RBS. We had our pushbike stolen out of the front garden about 6 months ago. They've lost all our claims paperwork about 3 times and still keep asking to see various things again. I've come to the conclusion that they have a specific stalling strategy and have worked out that if they keep asking for the info to be resupplied eventually people will just give up -... Written on: 11/08/2008 by JonathanS (1 review written)

When our house burnt down, firstly the Pru told us we were not insured with them and for two hours they kept up the denial before 'finding' us on the 'old' system (we had moved in and taken the insurance only a month earlier).
The builder said he could rebuild in 5-8 weeks. The Pru told has that we would be back in within 12 months. I told them my husband was dying and needed stability and speed with the house. They promised 12 weeks. A staggering 22 months later we moved back in. The... (read more)

“This company is underwritten by Churchill insurance,...”

Written on: 29/01/2007 by mikeywills (1 review written)

This company is underwritten by Churchill insurance, and they have been very professional in the seven times I have re-insured with them. Over this time I have had to claim twice, and both times Prudential home insurance organised everything. They organised the survey within a couple of days, and the labour soon after. I didn't have to go and get quotes from local people, which takes the hassle out of things. I am very fussy and in the building trade, and the workers that have come to my... (read more)

Written on: 24/08/2006 by Gail Massey (1 review written)

I wanted to add a personal item onto my Prudential Home Insurance policy and was told I would be charged £15 for altering it - I agreed. I put the phone down and after a minutes thought, I phoned them straight back to say I'd changed my mind and did not want to add anything on as I thought it was a bit expensive. I was told I would be charged ANOTHER £15 for altering my policy again. - DISGUSTING practice - what happened to the 14 day cooling period? No wonder the Pru has so much money!... (read more)

I have been a customer of Prudential Home insurance for years and I have never claimed until now. I think the way my claim has been handled is terrible. I am chasing them up constantly. I've been without a TV for over two weeks now, and with the bank holiday approaching, we will be going into the third week and on to the fourth. I am constantly being told different stories as to why we are still waiting. When I am eventually paid I will be changing insurance companies.

Written on: 29/01/2006 by angelosanzone (2 reviews written)

I have been with Prudential Home Insurance over 10 years, and I would not change, even for anything cheaper, because of the service and the speed that claims are settled. They came to the rescue when Insure And Go let me down big time.

I have had a total of three claims; two through water damage because of holes developing in radiators, and the most recent was through a travel loss. When an airline lost my luggage, and the travel insurers Insure And Go became extremely difficult, a... (read more)
