At 4pm on a Saturday I called my home EMERGENCY provider to say I had discovered a leak in the main soil pipe in my home. I explained to the operator I current have no kitchen as it being renovated my only source of water is from my upstairs bathroom but with this leak every time I use the bathroom or pull the flush, waste leaks all over my kitchen floor. I also explained there was a constant drip & I felt this was possibly a health hazard. Around 10pm on Saturday I still hadn't heard... (read more)

Having been a customer of Budget Insurance for over a long time, I was a little disconcerted to receive a renewal notice for Buildings and Contents at almost three times the price as previous years. Admittedly, I had not reviewed the documents in good time so unfortunately Budget Insurance have had several hugely over inflated payments from me that I won't be refunded. This was their story ... They told me that was the price of insurance in my area at the time of renewal and there was... (read more)

In all my years of dealing with motor insurance companies I have never come across such an inept, unprofessional company. I have supplied proof of NCD by post and email and all I get from them is that they haven't received it and that they are going to increase my premiums. I have tried to get through to them telephone but I am kept on hold for absolutely ages, and when I do get through I am transferred to another department and then back again. Whatever you do, don't make the same mistake... (read more)

Was unaware of the automatic renewal & got stung with an admin fee of £25 for cancellation. Several phone calls & about 2 weeks later, having threatened them with legal action, the cancellation fee was waived. Bunch of jobsworths trying to catch you out with the automatic renewal & admin fees. Wouldn't insure with them if they offered to insure my car, my house & myself for £10. Could go into plenty of detail, but will finish with some simple advice: read the other reviews, realise how... (read more)

Budget came out cheapest on comparison site for our buildings insurance in Jan 12 & so naturally went ahead with them (Now wish we had looked into them a bit further & seen all their poor reviews!) Everything seemed to be set up fine, I paid my deposit and they sent out the documents quickly and asked me to sign my credit agreement. I signed it and sent it back within a week of me first setting up the policy. About a week later i noticed they had taken another £35 from my account. when i... (read more)

I bought home content insurance with Budget earlier on this year. My bank account details changed, and I informed Budget as this would affect my direct debit (DD) payment going out on time. I made a manual payment to cover the missed DD. I also informed Budget of my new account details well before the next direct debit payment was due. A day after the payment was due to be debited by Budget, I checked my bank account and realised a payment was not debited. I contacted Budget and they... (read more)

Despite asking to not be automatically renewed when I first took the policy, they automatically renewed. A 14 day cooling off period applies, but when you are away on holiday and they send the renewal reminder letter AFTER the renewal date, you have little chance of changing your policy without incurring an admin fee equivalent to about 25% of the policy cost. Talking of which, when I rang in to have this automatic renew marker removed, a half hour phone call was necessary, because their... (read more)

last year I insured buildings & contents with budget when the due date was up for renewal I received a letter from them saying thepolicy had lapsed & bo further correspondence would be required, 5 days later they had took the full renewal of £180.35 from my bank, I rang them & they denied sending any correspondence out they told me they would put £143 back into my account within 4 days or the whole amount if I had proof of insuring with another company which I had, I sent a letter off to... We were having difficulty paying one of our monthly installments. One of the advisers on the phone asked if I could use a friends credit card to pay. I used my wife's debit card to pay on the phone and they never asked her permission. We have now received a letter demanding a £38.00 cancellation fee. (read more)

Just rang these bod’s to cancel the automatic renewal before they get a chance to screw me with an inflated premium. Spoke to customer advisor Leon who said he’d removed the automatic renewal and I did not need to confirm in writing, but I would still need to phone them to cancel the policy. I said that I was cancelling the automatic renewal, not cancelling the policy. He repeated that I would still need to call them to cancel the policy. Beware !!! My policy conditions state... We took out a policy with budget and tried to claim. They decided to fully refund our policy in full. They say they refunded onto my bank card. The card they say they used expired 12 months ago. They then tried to say it would go into a holding account at my bank. I contacted my bank manager. He confirmed that there was no record of any transaction being made on my expired card and there is no holding account. This has been I going for three months and is currently being dealt with by the... (read more)

Took budget home insurance out at the beginning of last year for £230 on 03/10, around the same period this year i had a transaction on my credit card for £597. Called the credit card company who told me that budget insurance had renewed my home insurance at more than double the rate! However comparison sites were still giving me the same rate as the previous year, i just can't understand why they have more than doubled my policy amount?? Called budget to cancel as i had already taken... (read more)

It came to contents insurance renewal time and we shopped around using various comparison sights. Budget SEEMED to offer good value for money. We took out the policy with 3 days to spare before the policy started. The next day we came to the conclusion that we would be better off sticking with our current insurer. Called Budget to cancell onlt to be told there is a £35 admin fee DESPITE the fact no money had been taken from our account AND the policy date hadnt started. I questioned what... (read more)

Avoid Budget Insurance like the plague! The only reason I have given them 1 star is that I was unable to make it any less.Just like other customers, I wish I had read the reviews first. What an unprofessional and unhelpful company. Just like other reviewers, when it came to policy renewal time, they sent me the standard letter, hiking the premium up to nearly double what I paid the previous year, despite making no claims. I rang to cancel this and took out insurance with another company which... (read more)

How I wish I'd seen the previous posts before I got caught by Budget. I too had no idea that it could possibly be legal for them to re-use the credit card details I gave them when I took out the policy in the first place to renew the policy without my say so. Their renewal premium was miles higher than other offers so I took out insurance with another company and thought no more of it. Now they say that i have to pay £35 cancellation fee and for the one day that the policy has been running.... (read more)

Avoid Avoid Avoid.
Rude indian call centre staff. They are expensive when compared to other quotes obtained over the net. Once you buy with them, you can get rid of them. They put you on automatic renewal and no matter how many times you ask them to take that off and have assurance that it is off, they will still charge you for insurance that you have cancelled!
Nothing but grief and we have not even made a claim through them. If they are this incompetent or devious, then imagine what...

Lots of hidden charges - we moved house after accepting a quote but BEFORE Budget Home Insurance cover started and were charged a fee to change the address details. At a later renewal time, we tried to change to monthly payments, rather than annual, but were told we'd have to pay the full amount first, then they'd refund it, then we could start a monthly plan. We didn't have the full amount available to us at the time, so we had to cancel the policy. Three weeks after confirming... (read more)

We purchased house content insurance. The insurance seems cheap - but they will charge you for the slightest things. I have never dealt with a company which has been so bad. We moved house in April this year and I phoned to notify Budget Insurance of our change of address. This was just the start of the Saga! I was informed that I would be charged £25.00 admin fee, which is entirely excessive in my point of view. The sales advisor took some details from me and, as if by magic, our policy... (read more)

Tried to make some changes to my Budget Home Insurance in March 2008. Had to phone Budget's South African call centre 5 times and in the end gave up in desperation. Each operative contradicted the last, calls back were promised and never made, the change I'd requested to my insurance was charged for but never appeared on my new insurance documents. Just an awful experience. Will NEVER go with any Budget insurance again - car or home. (read more)

You were lucky you were within the 14 day cooling off period, a family member of mine was 2 months into the policy before realised his monthly premium had nearly tripled as he'd been abroad. When tried to cancel they advised they wanted £35 admin fee plus 60% of his annual premium up front (his annual premium had been increased to £1020!)He is still currently with Budget as can't afford to leave before the renewal date at the start of 2011.
