My mother has had home buildings insurance with Zurich for several decades now and never once claimed against her policy in all these years. Recently her toilet and drains were blocked and we contacted them on their so called 24 Hour Emergency Helpline to be told that we need to phone between the hours of 8 til 6 ??? My step dad died on 16th February, we rang Zurich 2 days later to advise them. We then wrote to them with a copy of his death certificate to let them know. He was paying by direct debit over a 12 monthly period. My mother has received no response to her letter only letters still addressed to my dead step father demanding a new direct debit mandate. My claim has been going on since July 2012. We had a mains leak in the kitchen which had been so bad it had travelled into the adjoining property. We stated that this was an extreme siutation they send out an operative who never took moisture measurements..took 3 photos and offered us £1,400. The outcome is we have had our kitchen removed and dryers installed its like leaving in an airport. We have no cooking facilities and are washing up in the bathroom next to a toilet basin. We... I lodged a claim for storm water damage to rear wall in basement garage on Wednesday 17/10/2012 and Zurich, South Africa paid out in full on 23/10/2012. I was surprised with Zurich's level of service and the speed with their claims process. I would definately encourage others to condsider Zurich Insurance in South Africa. (read more)

Zurich are a disgusting company and when I complained to their complaints team they eventually stated they were taking no further action over issues I raised with them. They take the money and are not the cheapest insurer around. I don't believe Zurich is good value for money and would not recommend to anyone. (read more)

The price of the policy went up a lot more than inflation until I could save £500 by switching to a similar policy. I had been with them 20 years The one time I claimed for an item in recent years I felt they were suspicious of me. Their legal expenses policy is useless as they always find a reason for not allowing it. DO NOT use this company. Rude and uncaring employees who drag their heels on everything possible. It has taken over a month to sort a claim out, oh hold on it is still not completed. No communication apart from when it is time to pay your excess on your claim. Find another insurance company. These guys are a waste of time. (read more)

I had a leak from my shower in my en-suite and this caused damage to the wooden joists. I removed the shower and lifted the floor myself and got an independant surveyor out who told me I could claim on my insurance. However because I did not report it to them at once and before I removed the shower unit they have refused to pay out! My bank sold me Zurich buildings insurance. In 1999 I made a claim for what seemed to be subsidence causing the garage to separate from the main house. Their Loss Assessor didn't identify the subsidence yet in 2003 this cost us the house sale because investigations made by the prospective purchaser found the subsidence that I had claimed for in 1999 and Zurich -on the say-so of their Loss Assessor - rejected.Zurich appointed another Loss Assessor and remedial work started in June... I had a leak in my roof and phoned to claim from my insurance to have it fixed as i did not have a builder at the time they sent out their own builder to fix it when they left i was told it was fixed and then when it rained it poured into my propety i phoned back the insurance and they assured me it was only condensation but they sent someone out to have a look they then changed their mind and said it was wear and tear and it was my responsabilty they also said i was told by their builder ... Lost home to Arson December 2009, made claim for total loss £104k, investigated by Zurich's in house Nazis for 2 years, thought they were trying to find the persons who had set the fire, but no, they were trying to prove it was me!! -Claim was rejected for mis representation-claim went to FOS for adjudication, adjudicator made a ill-conceived decision which was over-turned by an Ombudsman. In my road in Wokingham we had a problem with the drains where they had failed . There were several houses affected. My insurance company was the only company that refused to pay out . It cost me personally £10,000 so beware of Zurich (read more)

they will not pay you out, if you have insurance with this company you would be better to just cancel. i have never made a claim against them before but when my house was broken into my claim was declined. the excuse was that the police did not take a list of things taken in the first 20 minutes when they arrived. this was impossible for me to do as when i spoke to the forenzics they asked me not to walk around my home so as i would not contaminate evience. this was a lame excuse! my child... Two months after our conservatory was flooded, we are making phone calls daily to Zurich and get nowhere. We thought insurance cover was for peace of mind - but no! When this is all over with them, we will definitely find another insurer.
Like others, we pay a lot of money each month and have done for years and expected a much better service.
I would put no stars if it were possible.

I have been with Zurich for many years and boy have they fallen from grace. Robotic call centres who all run from a script and do not want to deal with your claim. Will be looking elsewhere after poor and unhelpful service, why should you bother with sloppy service when there are others on the market!
Had to give 1 star I could not score any lower.

We have been fighting for 2 yrs to get a claim on our house protection for building faults policy. Two surveys have stated the bricks are faulty and now we have to issue proceedings in the county court via our solicitor. Zurich have repeatedly asked for the same information already sent to them. They seem to have lost two letters with various documents attached suggesting these have been forwarded to the wrong department. Don't they communicate? It takes way too long to get to speak with an agent due to menus and staff being too busy. By their own admission, email is not dealt with for 10 days, not even an automated response. I found this review very helpful because... It confirms to me that Zurich Insurance is still the same hopeless, greedy, incompetant and dishonourable company it was in 2006 when I had my accident. this company use to be a very good but has gone right to the bottom of the heap, the problem is they outsource all there claims now, this means a 3rd party is involved so when you make a claim it is past on and you are expected to chase the 3rd party, if you pay Zurich you expect them to manage your claim. this is fact as I have just had a long discussion with them regarding my claim and it was pointed out to me that as my claim was past to a 3rd party I should now be dealing with them! on... Frost had damaged the roofline pointing and at roughly the same time it had begun to fall out from different places in large lumps. I had had new sofits and fascias and a new roofline 6 years ago so I knew it was not poor maintenance. The fact that the mortar had begun to fall out in different places at the same time was also a sign that an 'event' rather than wear and tear had caused it. This review is being posted as a warning as I believe Zurich Insurance should be avoided at all costs. My experience of them is through a home and contents insurance policy but I feel their general level of customer service, care and consideration would be the same throughout the company. I found this review very helpful because...this is exactly what I was about to say about Zurich Home Insurance. Never, ever, EVER think about insuring your property with this wretched company.
<br/>A small flood in the upstairs bathroom in July '09, caused by a lose bath outlet pipe, was turned into a major drama. I received NOTHING towards the cost of the repairs and re-decoration of the kitchen ceiling and walls, which were damaged by the escaping water.
<br/>Zurich have delegated responsibilty for claims to call centres in India, and ROK Builders, who wanted to make as much money as possible from the job, carrying out totally uneccessary work. I have never made a claim before, and regret that I had paid for 9 years insurance cover.

I recently claimed for a damaged garage door when it was damaged by a car sliding on snow. They sorted out the claim with no hassle. Assigned a repair company who surveyed the damage, collected the excess and replaced the door in a very professional manner. The only minor hic-up in the process was slow follow-up after I submitted a claim on line. However, when I phoned customer services they progressed the claim immediately. I found this review very helpful because...I was pleased to read that at least somebody has received good service from Zurich! Unfortunately, far too many of us have had an opposite experience. Zurich can manage to sort out relatively simple claims but as soon as they become more complex they go to pieces. This review highlights the problems with Zurich. They are OK when things are straight forward but are both unwilling and incapable of sorting problems out when they arise. They hide behind sub contractors and refuse to take any responsibility for either their own or their sub contractors' actions. In our case they sent Homeserve who were both unlisenced and incompetent and left us in a mess. They treated my seriously ill husband with contempt - refusing to answer his questions etc. We had been customers of Zurich for many years and until 2005 had found them to be a good firm to deal with but our problems highlighted Zurich's true nature as a money grabbing overpriced irresponsible mob! I for one would never trust them with either any type of insurance of any financial matters.

In October 2008 I was watching television and had a bottle of red wine on the coffee table together with glass. My son lost some of his personal items and I was thrilled with the way the claim was handled. The whole thing was settled within about 10 days and all of the items were replaced with new ones. I'm not sure Zurich are the cheapest but you get what you pay for and they were really good (read more)

I had been with then over 15 years. I only found out how bad they were when I went to made a claim for a water leak. The assessor was rude and arrogant and treated me like some silly girl. His answer to fo fill it with foam - what a bodge. I tried many many times to make myself understood at the non-uk call centre. It was terribly stressfull. If you have found Zurich's service to be bad trying making a formal complaint. My husband and I are currently doing so. You first have to use Zurich's complaints procedure,(www.zurich.co.uk.) which we have found to be poor then when you are either insulted by their actions, as we were, or still unhappy with them, as we were, you can then try the financial ombudsman (www.financial.ombudsman.org.uk.) You can do a lot of the paperwork on line and it does not cost you any money. The financial ombudsman oversees all aspects of the insurance industry not just financial.

I accidental washed my husband's mobile phone and they replaced without any hassle at all. The previous year, our oven extractor unit fell off the wall and smash the glass of my expensive electric halogen oven. I rang them explained and within a few hours I had a call from an electrical supplier, we agreed on the model that was a replacement of my oven and I received it a couple of days later. Whilst the premium is not the cheapest it shows in what your actually entitled to claim for, all a lot more than the average home insurance. I found this review helpful because...it shows that when things are straightforward Zurich can cope with a simple claim. When things go wrong they are unwilling and seemingly unable to sort things out. Everybody makes mistakes, 'to err is human', but it is the way we handle our mistakes that shows our 'true metal'. They are probably do not offer the absolute cheapest home insurance premiums on the market, but Zurich Home Insurance are very efficient! They dealt with every aspect, including repairs from start to finish.

I rate this company, and I have been unable to find another company that will insure my property for a similar sum with the same degree of protection.
They offer prompt expert attention, and they are willing to insure a house that does not conform to the usual description of brick walls under a tile roof. They have good contents insurance, and there is prompt attention to claims.

You work for Zurich how can you be impartial and you don't know the full circumstances. Well is now November and we have a happy resolution. Zurich have now agreed the payment for our claim..you just have to hang in there. I do think they should be more careful about the assessors they use so they get a full account of the situation and action is swift.
