“Worst company ever ”

They will not pay you out but find a excuse, they simply stated that accident never happened and that I made it all up. Even after showing evidence.

“Dissapointing Service ”

★★☆☆☆

You pay an insurance to look after you. If for whatever reason something goes wrong. Privilege, don't look after you! I've repeatedly had to call up and chase updates on my claim as they have never called me back. This is still on going. I've just got of the phone from the bodily injury team who have made the decision on my behalf that my case will go 50/50. I was beyond shocked to hear this. This will not happen. How dare they even contiplate making any decisions on my behalf. It has been a disappointing a frustrating experience so far. I would not advise anyone to get their insurance through Priviledge because if for whatever reason you have to claim. They don't want to know you.

“Not at all fair! ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 13/04/2015

I am a new driver, my first years insurance was £1300 which was the best quote I could find. Everyone at privilege are more than happy to talk to you when they want to take more money off of you but don't take complaints well. On my second year of driving they decided that my insurance should now be £1500 with £500 total excess even with 1 years no claim. This would be if I paid annually, if I wanted to pay monthly the insurance went up nearly another £150. They wouldn't take any money off even after I had complained to them and they didn't exactly want to listen to my complaint either. I personally would not go with privilege insurance again and I will be changing insurers when my policy is finished with them. My best advise to any new drivers would be to look around at other company's and use privilege as a last resort when looking for insurance especially if you struggle with money like myself.

“Extras”

Needed to have a copy of insurance document/cover note so I could tax a new vehicle at the post office, was told that it would be sent and could take up to seven days so I asked for it to be emailed, was told they do not email but they could fax it to me but it would cost £9 for one phone call to a fax machine. Companies like this are the reason why this country is labelled rip off Britain and are allowed to get away with it. Rant Over but beware.

“Cheap Car Insurance”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 28/12/2012

Cheap car insurance for a reason! The story Had an accident, my fault. Rang Privilege the same evening and could not record the claim as "the system was down". Next day was good, garage picked my car up and the rental company gave me a courtesy car for 2 weeks. So far so good. The car was written off about 2 weeks later, got a poor deal for my car, even after haggling, and a month has gone by and I still haven't received the cheque! Summary Pay little for car insurance and expect sub-standard service.

“Dismal customer service”

★★☆☆☆

written by colsub on 19/03/2012

I was working in the UK and Privilege gave me a good quote, albeit not the lowest. I thought that they would be solid. I cancelled my policy when I returned to Ireland, and have had difficulty since then receiving a proof of no claims discount. Their customer service is entirely ineffectual, up to the level of the manager who promises to handle the matter personally and then does nothing. Eight phone calls and one month later and I have still not received the document, having had to correct them about my personal details twice already. I would imagine that the company is equally useless in event of a claim, I woul happily have paid an additional levy and been managed by an efficient company. I will amand the review if they can redeem themselves in any way.

“Watch out for the hidden costs! ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 12/01/2011

Watch out for the hidden costs!

I got a quote through a comparison website which was £160 less than my existing insurer's quote. However the Privilege quote included £30 off which you don't actually get until the policy has run for 90 days.

I would have to pay extra for things such as no claims protection, legal insurance, courtesy car etc. which were all included in my old policy. Also Privilege were going to increase my premium by £100 for adding my mum onto the policy - even though she has been driving for over 40 years and never made a claim or had any points on her licence. My other insurer added her for no increase in the premium.

By the time I added up the extra costs and the cost of adding my mum, the quote from Privilege was as expensive as the renewal quote from my previous insurer, so I am staying with them.

“I added a set of new alloy wheels to my car which cost...”

written by BaldwinR on 18/01/2008

I added a set of new alloy wheels to my car which cost me £260. I told Privilege about my modification and my premium went up by more than £350 a year and my excess also increased to £775 from £425. The wheels I bought for £260 could end up costing me £750 if I were to make a claim! Where do they get their figures from?

“I took out my car insurance policy with Privilege in...”

★★☆☆☆

written by luckynumber13 on 19/10/2004

I took out my car insurance policy with Privilege in june as it was 10% cheaper than my previous insurer Directline who are also the parent company, everything fine until I had an accident when a lorry hit me and damaged the whole of the rightside of the car, so my car went in for some major work, when I got the car back 3 weeks later there were numerous faults, the shutline on the door had a large gap at the top, the seal round the window had a gap as the window frame was twisted, a damaged alloy wheel had not been repaired or replaced, paint was patchy in places, paint overspray on tyres, window seals and the fuel cap plus other niggly bits, the car has been in for the remedial work but again still things are not right. My advice if you can afford it do not go for the cheapest quote as you seem to get the cheapest service!

My son was in an accident which we thought was a 50/50 claim on a country lane. However, our Privilege car insurance company have decided it was our sons fault and will not fight our case. Is there anything we can do to contest their decision?

I had a nightmare with Privilege myself. They are a disgraceful company. 50/50 is industry norm if both parties fail to agree. Unless there was an independent witness whose statement confirms what the other party claims, this is the likely outcome. Remember that neither party can use the witness statements from passengers, as they are directly involved. If there are no independent witnesses, Privilege are just attempting to bully you into conceding. Don't. I trust that you have legal protection with your insurance? Assert to your legal representation that this is a straightforward 50/50 and maintain this. If you have none, it is possible to do this yourself. Be prepared to go to court with this. Although this is hugely unlikely to happen. Mine was settled in full before it reached this stage. I felt like giving up many times. It is the claim handlers' role to minimalise the pay out their company is forced to make. Do NOT. There is a lot more at stake here than just an excess. No claims bonus and future increased policy amounts. Good luck. As I said, don't allow this horrible company to bully you into accepting what they consider to be reasonable.
