went with them as the low price attracted me. They said they didnt receive my no claims, despite me forwarding email confirmation on my no claims they took another £638 out of my account - without consent. They said they would refund it within a few days after admiting they had it... 20 days later Im still waiting for a refund. No manager has talked to me despite this being requested. Avoid this company in all circumstances. In short, the amount you are quoted will not be the amount you finally pay and then they take the money out of your bank earlier than the date quoted! I have recommended to friends and family not to go near this company even if they are the cheapest quote - just shows; you get what you pay for. (read more)

Would not recommend budget. I had to change my car after 3 months of policy start. I phoned them up and they wanted to charge £150 extra + £75 admin. If i Canceled. I would get back £210 - £75 admin. It worked out cheaper to start a new policy. At least then I got 12 months cover not 9. I phoned back up said I want to cancel. Can you send proof of no claims. I took out car insurance for one of my cars so I could take it to get MOTed which is completely legal to do and they do allow this in their policy. After phoning them to query something and letting them know I was going to take my car for an MOT they responded with canceling my insurance and telling me I needed to pay them 90 something pounds to cancel. Agreed a car insurance policy with Budget and told them that I had 8 years no claims discount with 7 years proof. The eighth year was a company car which did not give you proof of no claims. I explained this to the customer service dept and the girl said this was not a problem but they would only accept the 7 years, which I was ok with. this company represent nothing more than a legal con trick, they deducted over £600 from my account (full policy costs and first payment of monthly) then took over a month to return my cash. Then claimed I had no NCD despite being insured with them for over 3 years with full no claims. THEN cancelled my policy with only 7 days notice and charged me a £38 cancellation fee. Automatic renewal even if you cancel your DD and do not reply-small print rip off indeed! My daughters insurance just cost an additional months insurance and a £75.00 cancellation charge. Had to cancel my insurance due to not being able to afford my car, when I phoned them up and canceled my insurance I was charged for everything ended up being charged £60 over all. Just payed off a £30.10 "dept" I owed them and just got charged again for paying by card, how else did they expect me to pay it? I have had more contact from them since I canceled my insurance ! Furthermore, I'd like to know at which stage in this process did I sign up for Personal Accident cover with Budget?
A booklet arrives in the post, which turns out to contain a certificate for personal accident cover, for which I get the first 6 months free, and then they start pinching £4 a month out of my bank account - if I don't cancel within 6 months. The booklet does not look like a conventional policy certificate and is something which could easily be thrown away and/or forgotten if you don'y actually take the time to read it - I know I do from time to time with all this junk mail one receives...
Seriously underhand tactics here, I think I'll be taking this further...

After calling them, regarding why I received Personal accident cover (and also Life Cover, which I didn't want) a nice lady in their customer services department waived/refunded my cancellation fee.

Budget have complicated car insurance beyond belief. They are the worst car insurance company i have ever used. Their admin is chaotic. You can only contact them by phone and are left on hold on 0844 number. They charge extra add on fees for any changes to policy no matter how small, need to read the small print for the amount of add ons there are in total. Do not use them, they are not cheaper they are more expensive in the long run. I cancelled with them today as totally exasperated... (read more)

Similar experience. The worst car insurance ever. Cancellation fee costs 1/3 of the yearly premium! Asked them to quote me for my new car, instead of cancelling the current insurance, their quote was £200 more expensive than quotes from other insurance. Awful company, don't every go with them!

same here. Contacting budget to resolve changes etc., was turning into a full time career, they denied i had sent the no claims proof, then they found it. I have a ton of paperwork from them asking me to sign forms i had already signed and returned. Any changes to policy cost £30 fee. Ultimately i cancelled with them today and have to pay a £75 cancellation fee but something strange i have now taken out my car insurance much cheaper with the post office only to find that budget and the post office have exactly the same address to send paperwork too. Wondering if they are the same company now.
I have tried to complain to budget but can't find an address to send a written complaint, told by one of their team leaders today it had to be done by phone, left on hold whilst they went and got one. 0844 number. Asked if they knew the address for ombudsman complaints about their exasperating chaotic admin said 'no'.

However from the start we were plagued with problems, Budget denied receiving a copy of the agreement so charged us £20 which they took out of our bank without permission ( apparently they have the right to do this!!. These are a bunch of chancers. I sent them my No Claims Discount proof as requested when I made the mistake of accepting a quote from them last year but they ignored it and doubled my premium without telling me. I have just had to pay £30 to these people to change a mistake in the registration number on my policy document - which only just came to light when I tried to purchase my tax disc on line. I have no idea whose fault the mistake was, but I have had to pay for it. The £30, they say, is an administration fee - I also had to pay one of these fees when I changed cars earlier in the year. This company sends out the most enormous pile of paperwork every time you renew - there must be 30 sheets of paper at least, most of which is small print. No reminder letter sent,when policy due for renewal. Attempted to retrieve money from my bank account without authorisation for annual renewal of policy. Said it was written into the policy that they could do this!! Charged me for not returning documents not received, charged me for changing details I was not aware of, charged excessively for cancellation (cancelled as it was cheaper to do so than pay premiums for new quote for equivalent car) To top it all...they sent me a letter saying my DD had been cancelled and to pay up within 10 days or I would be charged again ...ONE day before the ten days were up! BEWARE!
£30 to change a car on the policy.
£75 to cancel or more depending how they feel on the day.
My policy went up £50 a year with a car change on Tuesday (fair enough), on Wednesday I wanted to change it back to the original car, instead of taking the £50 off, they requoted the policy and charged me a further £52 a year for the car I originally had!!! Plus another £30 admin fee for the privilege.
The guy on the phone, patronising and budget brainwashed. You can only feel sorry for him.

A deer ran out of the undergrowth and collided with my car last weekend and thought I would check with my insurer if there was clause under which I was covered despite having 3rd Party Fire and Theft. It is a shame that you fell into this hole but I have to ask the question [so please don't take offence] of, gap insurance is used to cover the 'hole' or gap left between the insurance payout (the trade value - which is the minimum value of the same vehicle (mileage, wear, condition etc)) and that which you paid so to bring you back more or less to the same place you would have been had you merely sold on the vehicle with the majority of your investment intact.
So, I wonder why if you felt that you needed gap insurance (often usually taken when a substantial investment is made and in most circumstances when the car is less than 3 years old) why you chose to insure as TPFT rather than comprehensive? And, having never claimed (so you will have earned the max 6 years NCB - you will no doubt have earned much more but anything more than 6 is usually ineffective), you also waived the chance of protected NCB by choosing to insure as TPFT?

Charged me extra for not letting them know about an accident for a different vehicle insured with another insurance company under claims protected, which was not my fault and still being fought. Charged me for not being able to prove I have returned the credit agreement, which had been returned to make sure they didn't charge me. This was the first policy (and last) with this bunch of sheisters. Should have seen the warning signs a month in when they claimed not to have received my credit agreement and charged me a penalty. Fortunately I sent it recorded, but I still had to phone the call centre in India and explain this to them. got even worse with regard to the above comments. i phoned budget insurance upon the 18th of vovember and gave them my friends debit card details to pay of the remaining bal;ance of £207.91p, i was told this had gone through, i was also told i was behind with my payments and i could become uninsured if i didnt pay.. i asked how could i be in arreas when my payment wasnt due until some 6 days later. the chap i spoke to admitted something was wrong and corrected it or at least i hoped so.. i get a letter from them on the 25th saying that my diredt debit had been rejected by the bank, i explained that i had paid it in full on a debit card but was told they had tried to take it drom a "dormant" bank acccount.. this has now happened 3 times costing me £36.00 in charges, a totaly useless company who will not be getting any more of my buisiness after this year--appalling servic.

“Budget Insurance Refund Rip Off”

After using Budget for 3 years we asked to add a young driver to the policy, expecting a large increase in price. Budget flatly refused to consider any type of cover on any vehicle so we had no choice but to cancel.The policy was pre paid in full and had more than 6 months to run. Amazingly there is no refund due, it seems that the early repayment charges coincides exactly with the amount of our money held by Budget. We have had a problem with Budget. They cancelled our insurance without any notice( because we didnt send NCD proof in time!) therefore we drove for a full day without being insured! They were going to charge us cancellation fee £75 and and premium fine of £252 for 4 weeks cover! The fees were going to be cancelled if we started a new policy with a £250 increase compared to our original policy! We argued that we wanted the original quote or even the quotes currently on the internet( not the old quote with the cancellation fee/ fine hidden) Anyway after 45 mins and demanding to speak to the team leader they honored the original quote because the numerous letters they sent us did not say they were actually going to cancel on a particular date thus giving us no notice! We will see if they honour this agreement when they take the first months premium on the 26th!!

I've had the same problem as the comment before me. I delayed submitted proof of NCD and they cancelled my insurance. They are have now taken more than £325 from my account and when I try to speak to them their customer service is worse than 3rd world.
Never use these people.

I'd used Budget a few times before they sneakily introduced the auto-renewal, [i.e. they just help themselves to more money from my credit card after 12 months] without warning and certainly without my agreement. This is against government guidelines. When I took the policy out, they assured me that they wouldn't do this. We have third party insurance on our vw polo with budget. My wife made an error with the date that the car was registered in her name (it had formally been registered to my daughter) . Budget pointed out this error and my wife sent them a copy of the new registration document. I have had to cancel my insurance with this company because the price for my son to learn with me in the car was more than £3000. I had therefore found a much cheaper quote which covers me and my son on a provisional and full insurance for half the price at £1600. However I was very dissapointed with the company when I discovered that they were to charge me £76 to cancel my insurance policy. I called budget to cancel my cover however they still took £480 from my account whent I called them and asked them to return the money to my account they told me that it would take three weeks despite me infroming thme that I needed the moeny to pay my mortgage. I agree they are disgusting, had the same argument with a pleb tonight!! I told them my new car would be (including the reg. no) would be a citroen xsara picasso. He the proceeded to talk about a citroen saxo!?! Saying that even though the insurance group was lower than the current car I have, because it was a popular car it had more claims in my area! I smell some thing!!
