General comments: Budget Car Insurance are cheap for a reason. I sold the car insured after 6 months and Budget have qouted £550 to cancel the policy. I contested but agreed to pay their £35 cancellation fee. A month passed then I recieved a letter from a debt collection agency demanding another £220, a figure I believe they have pulled out of thin air.

Budget Car Insurance's initial premium quotations are competitive but their renewal quotations are not. Like so many insurance companies, their automatic renewal statements are written poorly and its an 'opt out of' service which seems extremely difficult to opt out of and to get out of once you're in it. Their customer service is poor and their speed in getting cancellation documentation out is by pigeon mail. The renewal quotations I received are astronomical (aren't most of them I guess) b ...

I've sold two vehicles, in order to buy one.
Budget: tried to cancel with 7 months to go and was told that I'm due 80% of the remaining fees plus a cancellation fee that amounted to more or less the whole remaining payments - £170.00
Direct Line: On the other hand, did the same to Direct Line who told me: "Thank you for ensuring with us, cancellation fee is £17.50"
Insurance is a bet - I bet against the company that I will not have an accident. If I do, they loose, if I don't, I ...

I took out car insurance with Budget insurance over the last few years. My policy expired on the 15th Nov 08 and currently paying £35 per month by direct debt. They wanted to renew my policy and I called and asked why my policy has been increased to £45 per month. I've never claimed or had an accident. They told me some silly story to justify the increase. I went on line and found a policy with Lloyd's TSB for £25 per month which I paid by credit card. I called budget today ...

Had a car accident about 2 months ago now. We contacted Budget within hours of the crash and explained what had happened. They promised us a call back within a few hours. Nothing happened for a few days so we called them again and were once again promised a call back. After two weeks of waiting we went direct to the underwriters, Zurich, only to be told they had no record of our claim! Went back to budget and after being passed from pillar to post and being on hold for over half an hour we final ...

I cancelled a Budget insurance policy by telephone in April and was told there would be no charge as it still had 3 months to run and I was fully paid up.
Later I received firstly a cancellation fee request £12 then a bill for a further £64.
I wrote three times to query this and still have not received an answer. I telephoned eight times and went through to their call centre queues, twice when I asked to speak to a supervisor I went on hold for over 20 minutes before I gave up.
I w ...

I was into my second year with budget, previous insurers were AXA, no accidents or claims, phoned them on their 0870 telephone number which costs you money while you are on hold,to tell them I had sold the vehicle and could I cancel/ refund the 7 months that was left, not a problem sir, but, there is a charge for this, and a charge for something else, the bottom line was, that out of the cost of £118.30 for the policy, the refund for 7 months was 49p.

To be fair the insurance was cheap at the start but then I moved house and they charged me £25 to change my address with them! I have just bought a new car before my year is up with the insurance and they have just charged me another £25 admin charge! When I asked if i could cancel she said it would cost me £35 plus but wouldn't actually give me a definite price on how much it would cost me to cancel, so I just kind of huffed and have gone with it for now, but will NEVER use ...

This is the second review I have written about Budget and I'm not one to moan but I am so annoyed, not only were they any help when I got hit by a bike last October, the work carried out to my car was so bad (they would not even take it back to fix it) that when I had to get rid of the car they charged me again an admin fee. I've been driving for 17 years and had one accident and when they sent me my renewal notice they wanted to charge me £1014 for a years insurance! When I phoned to dis ...

Been with Budget Car Insurance for a number of years never made a claim. So don't know of problems on that side. Got a quote off them on internet with no free breakdown cover. When paper work came through it had free breakdown cover but was £80 more. When I rang to complain they just kept saying it was free. How? Anybody else noticed this?

I have been with Budget Car Insurance for 3 yrs and am fed up with charges for every little change you want to make to your policy.
I took out RAC last year I've only just been told its only for the car im insured on and wouldn € t cover me in any other car which I thought was unfair as I € d had RAC before and it was a personal breakdown policy.
I have sold my car and wanted to freeze insurance just for a month but they don € t offer the service so they want £135 to cancel policy, I only ...

Budget cust servcie when making a claim was the worst I have ever come across. I work in the financial services industry and beleieve that cust serv is paramount to bus retention.
Budget do not care !!!!!
Whenever you ring them they just pass you on to another co re underwritter/ legals/uninsured losses.
They can do nothing as it is all done by separate Co's who all have their own proceedures and they own systems to be followed.
But I insured with Budget, you are who I deal with., whose numbers ...

Watch Budget Car Insurance auto renewal and subsequent lack of recollection of calls confirming that you no longer want insurance with them. This will swiftly be followed by recovery demands for an amount e.g £22, that is probably small enough that most people pay to avoid the hassle of contacting them.
Don't pay it but more importantly don't insure with them in the first place. I was lucky not to have a claim with them in the one and only year I insured (I paid up front in full).

An incident has been put on my record by Budget and I have no idea about this incident; there is no police record and they can't even tell me where the incident was supposed to happen.
I am phoning Budget every day at present, having to start from the beginning each time with each new customer advisor, for them to promise to do something (either send an email to the underwriter, talk to a supervisor, email their administration centre in the UK as the call centre is in South Africa) and I am st ...

I wanted a policy that I could add my grown up kids onto as temporary drivers, as and when I needed to. I was assured I could - no problem. Oh were they wrong ! They refused to do it and after several heated phone calls I ended up contacting the insurance company direct and after several phone calls from them they managed to sort it out. Budgets response was that I had no right to go direct to the insurance company. I am trying again to do the same and Budget said they couldn't do it and the pho ...

Smart people do not go with Budget... I was clearly an idiot. Do not consider using their monthly payments if there is any chance you may need to cancel the policy early - you will be heavily penalised for this and ultimately could end up paying a HUGE settlement fee. I just paid in excess of 85% annual premium for less than 50% of the years cover!!!

Original Budget Car Insurance policy £240 when Budget cancelled within the first month they wanted £290 in cancellation fees. Did a bit of research on WWW and found that Budget is often a bit hasty in cancelling policies - no wonder. In fairness, I wrote to them (no point in 'phoning - couldn't be less interested) pointing out their mistakes. although their admission wasn't exactly unequivocal they did at least admit to being fundamentally wrong and didn't take a penny off me. ...

My father received a letter today form Budget Car Insurance advising him that he had no insurance cover as he had not renewed. As he was not in a position to call them himself, I called on his behalf.
I gave them the policy numbed on the letter, to which I was advised that he had no cover. I asked the girl to check to see if they had him on their computer system twice, to which I was told no they didn't.
I asked her to check again, as I had actually witnessed my father renewing his insurance ( ...
