This is the worst insurance company that I have ever used. Backed by Aviva, they not only are taking months to look into my claim but also seem to be totally biased towards the third party. Complaint procedure is farcical. I will never use them again and would not recommend them to anyone.

I telephoned recently to change something on my renewal notice and after holding for nearly an hour and being passed onto 3 different people as the first two couldn't help, I decided to just cancel the renewal and go with somebody else, RAC Car Insurance weren't the cheapest anyway - but I thought better the devil you know!!

I have spent several hours on the phone attempting to get the RAC to amend a policy document that they incorrectly issued to me. Even though it was their mistake they insisted on charging me an extra £40 as they needed to re-quote the policy. Their customer service is terrible, it takes an age on hold before you can speak to someone, and they can't sort your problems out when you finally get through. Heaven knows how much trouble it is if you ever need to make a claim. Best of luck if you ...

RAC car insurance are very poor at keeping me informed on how my claim is progressing. Call centre possibly, not UK based, almost inpossible to get through on the phone, have waited upto an 1 hour when transfered from one department to another.
In my personel view staff not very interested in the customer when you try to make a claim.

I wish I'd read this website before insuring with the RAC.

I had opted for RAC Car Insurance which was slightly more than most as I didn't want a dodgy company and I wanted breakdown cover from the same place.

I had an overseas licence and exchanged it for a UK one about 5 years after I got here and decided to buy a car. I told the sales guy on the phone about this and put my no claims in for 8 years (length of time I was insured overseas) and he was aware I hadn't had a car for 5 years and i ...

We have RAC Car Insurance. My Husbands car was hit in a works car park and the driver didn't stop.
RAC arrived within a couple of hours of our call with a brand new hire car for my Husbands use. They went all over my Husbands car and took it away for repair. The repair company kept us informed as to what was going on etc.,and the car was returned within 1 week and a good job done.
    Well done RAC

In 2007 my car was caught up in floods near Sheffield, damage came to near £ 4000.RAC insurance settled the claim without a blink. They were very quick and made the whole process easy.I have renewed my insurance with them twice since and I don't bother to get quotes from other companies. 10/10

    This is a good story
Recently I had a non- fault claim. A little old lady hit our car when parked up she admitted responsibilty. When I advised the RAC of the incident they said they would handle the claim waiving my excesses etc and I was 'ASSURED' that it wouldn't affect my protected no claims bonus's. Next, because of the damage, our oldish 'perfect low mileage' Honda car was then deemed a commercial write off at the RAC's appointed assessor (Main Ford dealership!)....a cash in lieu of repai ...

I was with RAC last year after accepting their quote of £279. This year I received my renewal letter asking for £340 for exactly the same thing. I decided to go elsewhere so did nothing about it. Two weeks later I received another reminder from the RAC, this time asking for £360, not £340? There was no explanation as to why the quote had suddenly increased by £20 or why it was now £80 more than the previous year, despite my circumstances being exactly th ...

I've had RAC insurance for two years, all fine and dandy until I bought a second hand 3 litre coupe, and the price went through the roof. I'm in my 40's with 5 years or more no claims. I queried the price with the customer service person just in case they thought my car was gold plated or something... the assistant seemed totally disinterested and couldn't seem to offer an explanation as to why the premium had rocketed or why the premium was on average £200 more expensive than competitors ...

DO NOT INSURE WITH THE RAC.
Agree with someone else's comment identifying the RAC are great for breakdown but they should stop there. I was in a non-fault accident while insured with the RAC and they settled despite me requesting they fight the case. They said it was not in there best interests to fit the case (cheaper to settle!) Nevermind my best interests eh!! I took it to the Insurnace Ombudsman who investigated the RAC and agreed they were in the wrong and instructed them to reinstate my no ...

We insured our evo 6 with RAC 2 yrs ago after getting a quote through confused.com,they had the lowest premium than any we had been quoted (and we had already owned the vehicle 4yrs)
18 months ago I was driving the car on an island where I noticed someone had stopped for no apparent reason blocking the lane off in front of me,I gave them good time to move which they didn't so i started to drive around them,at this point they decided to move and drove into the drivers side of the car.
    RAC have ...

My car was stolen and has not been recovered as yet, phoned the claims line and spoke to a lovely young lady. That was 4 weeks ago and im still waiting for the loss adjuster to forward my statement. My advice is don't use RAC for anything.

Might be good to rescue a breakdown, don't let em loose on your car insurance.

Take my word for it, RAC are utterly useless.

I had a great experience with RAC car insurance. I didn't expect them to be that cheap, but I realised from some of the online stuff I've read, that because I don't use my car much and drive off peak, then I saved much more with them. I bought breakdown cover from them last year, and I ended up with a further £25 off my price, which was a nice touch!

I had to add a quick review as I was so impressed with the quote I just got from them. I received my renewal last week from Norwich Union. They wanted £399. I used Confused.com to hunt for a better quote, and I was happy to find the AA offering the same thing for £349. I actually bought that insurance. However, just on the off chance this morning I checked the RAC (which Confused.com had not checked) and I was gob smacked. The RAC offered me the same insurance for £249. That is ...

RAC was the only company I found that covered the factory sat nav, and gave me a discount for having it. They also came in with the cheapest quote.

RAC car insurance came back as the cheapest quote for me on a search engine (less that £180), and I have always paid £300 - £400 before.

I called them to check that this was correct, to which they confirmed. The customer service agent went through all the details with me, added a couple of extras on, and it was still less that £200. That was the deal for me, and I am very happy with the service they gave, and the price I'm paying.
