Good Points: Its a free phone number - Thats it.
Bad Points: Every single interaction with the overseas call centre.
General comments: We have car insurance and house insurance with Norwich Union - NEVER AGAIN. Terrible rude service agents, I've been told we have no policy, even though we have a policy for years - never had to claim so have never experienced the Customer Service - but it is SHOCKING!!
Ive been cut off so many times, promised call backs that never happen, been called MR and when im clearly female, have agents that are totally clueless.

May 2009. It's just taken 4 phone calls to Aviva (Norwich Union) and over 1 hour in total on the phone (actual time talking to call agents, not the time in call queues) for them to change my car insurance poilcy over to a new car. Never again !
A simple example of what you will get of you call Aviva for anything beyond a quote or renewal......
Call Agent: ' And what is the regisatration and make of your new car..?
Me: ' xxx xxxx.... it's a new Toyota'.

I was with Norwich Union between 2006-2008 and would not return to them. I had a roundabout crash in Dec 2007. I knew it would be settled 50:50, as no witnesses stopped, so figured it would be settled quite quickly. Even so it wasn't until July 2008 that NU finally settled my claim.
I had to deal with foreign call centres each time who kept telling me that they would ring me on a certain date, then didn't call. Their excuse every time was that they hadn't heard back from the third party insure ...

I had to request a copy of a previous years insurance policy or a letter confirming I was insured as I had been incorrectly charged with driving without insurance. i just had an unexpected excellent service from Norwich Union Direct Car Insurance! someone hit my car at 9:15am. 15 minutes later I called NU, excellent customer service, did not have no wait, clear instructions, speedy and efficient. I have to say with less than a week into my policy I am very disappointed!The first problem I had was when I purchased my car from network q the policy documents were LATE!I had to approach another insurance company to release a cover note so that I could tax my car. As we followed the progress of our claim it all went downhill. We are now on our eleventh day and no one has come out to inspect the damage to our car, I have had to explain to several different people in a call centre that the car is very likely written off and when are they going to send an engineer. Was with Norwich Union for years, bought a Jaguar xj8 which unfortunatley got pinched 8 weeks later. Cost me £8000 NU paid me £5000 well below book and it took a lot of aggro to get the £5k.
Never again will I insure with NU.

Pay extra and go with an insurance company who has UK call centres. The customer services team and claim department were not the best I've dealt with. I took out my policy in May 2008 and was meant to receive a cashback by August 2008. I've sent in proof of my no claims three times so the cashback can be validated. I've had to call nine times to chase the cashback and still waiting to received it. I will probably go back to Direct Line next year.

Phoned them to tell them that I had been end shunted when stationary. Totally not my fault. I have over 6 years protected no claims, fully comp. Was told to think very carefully about claiming because I would lose my excess! Surely this would be paid by the 3rd party insurer? Friend gave me the no. of an organisation that takes on your claim if not your fault and deals with the 3rd party direct. FAB!

I switched to NU as my previous insurer would not put my partner on policy. A few weeks later, a third party colided with the side of my car, but admitted liability. This company is awful and not to be confused with Norwich Union proper (or Aviva as it now calls itself).
All communication with them has to be conducted through what seems to me to be an outsourced call centre. They were slow and unhelpful when we phoned as a matter of prudence (& courtesy) to explain that there had been an incident in which the other driver had admitted liability and her insurers had agreed to settle the claim. Had a small fire caused by ABS wiring and am told they will not cover. They sent an assessor who advised me I shouldn't let my car burn out totally to have it written off. That would have been a sight in my driveway, plus I had a two year old sleeping at the window near the drive.

Car was stolen dec 07. reported straight away to police and NU. Sent all keys & docs in as requested. NU now saying one of my keys is a fake key!! refusing to pay claim. I have proof from car manufacturer these are correct keys too. Looks like i'm taking them to court. It has been sooooooo stressful!!
Beware, customer service in my case has been terrible, kept getting cut off. They never answer their phones or call you. Had to file a complaint to get them to call me and keep me updated.
