I do not think that my review can fully express my disgust and disatisfaction after trying to claim with Aviva car insurance.
I passed my test in september 2009 and started to save up for a car. My dad who has what an only be classed as an old banger which brakes down ever month was given a mini copper as a gift from my older brother who wanted to ensure my dad had a reliable car and also thought it would benefit me as an additonal driver. Terrible company. I had an accident where i was crashed into from behind and it went through to being disputed, as if that could be my fault. 6 months on and i call up to see whats going on and they tell me that they are trying for 50/50 on damages with the other parties insurers!! This is completely not on. Their call centers are useless too, hard to understand and they can barely understand you! Avoid at all costs. Far and away the worst customer service I have ever experienced - they have clearly outsourced to a call centre to cut costs which means that that the system is incapable of dealing with all but the simplest of queries. Everything was ok until I decided to swap vehicles and get a new car insurance certificate - some 9 days later I have a car I can not use because I cant buy road tax as I have no insurance certificate. Awful. Renewed my car insurance automatically using a debit card from my ex-wife's joint account (used the year before to purchase). The thing was that they took the money UNEXPECTEDLY AND A MONTH EARLY taking my wife's bank account over the overdraft limit and costing significant amounts in bank charges. They have deducted the money twice from my bank account and are refusing to pay back the money they have taken fraudulently. They say they have no record. NO CLAIMS BONUS NIGHTMARE.
Just been with Aviva for a year, having given me a good price and previously having given excellent customer service despite no claims as Norwich Union.
My renewal quote was reasonably priced, but ever since the start i have been plagued with No Claims Bonus problems, firstly two months after taking out the policy i was asked for proof of no claims bonus, so duly sent off my esure renewal policy with proof of 7 years, to meet the 5 years no claim bonus criteria… Read Full Review

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE................. seriously I have never come across a more difficult, rude, incompetent company in my life, I rue the day I ever took insurance with them. Avoid them. The worst customer service I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. I have a claim outstanding for the theft of my car for months now, In the meantime my renewal letter has come in and they have removed my NCB and want to charge me over 950 to renew. I have a NCB for over 8 years. They insist that it is their policy to remove the NCB while a claim is outstanding.

Been with norwich union, which changed to Aviva for 5 years, and last year november my policy expired, they didnt care to auto-renew like they did every year, did not send me any emails (they did in the past- still have those emails) and no post received al though they say they sent one!, and got charged by police last night for not having insurance, on checking with aviva, got told that they cancelled my policy after november, got 6 points, and aviva has not been helpful at all in this… Read Full Review

Went to Aviva with 13+ years NCB.Renewal notice says only five years-their policy. Refuse to issue me with a letter confirming my full NCB. No claims during two years with them. Keep saying will not impact on other quotes, but it does and by around £50. Asian based cust service centre, polite but just not listening. Can't recommend.Won't use again… Read Full Review

Aviva will negotiate your renewal premiums but only to a point. I've since insured through another company and saved over £100.
I drive a Group 35 car and can still get a premium of under £235 but then again I'm over 60.
I have been with Aviva for over 20 years but the time has come for a change.
I used to be an insurance broker and I found their claims dept. poor to say the least and that was 7 years ago!

When telephoning you have to fight through an automated system which drives you mad.
Have made 3 complaints 1 to ceo all have been treated with the same contempt.

Dreadfull customer service - close to being added to the worse I have experience in last few years! Definitely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Involved in an accident the other driver accepted full responsibility but still lost my no claims bonus. Made 6 phonecalls put through to various departments who keep telling me to call other departments who tell me to call the department I called originally. Absolute shower of incompetant morons, the ridculous automated telephone system makes it impossible to get through to anyone as it simply does not work. I had to call their head office and rant at the telephonist to not put me back through to the automated system and she eventually connected me to what is laughingly called their customer service centre which is located in India. my reasons why NOT!!!
1.fully comp. £652.86 for toyota avensis 2005 (i'm 31)
2. I signed and paid first payment(£108.81), made 4000miles in Europe and find out that still not been debited.I've phone them and they told me that by computer error I'm not insured ;)(no sorry,or apologize)... ok sorted
3.moved address(changed address on website and by phone). price went up £34.87/month-I've got letter about new price.

AVIVA car Insurance?!?!?!
How this shower can call themselves insurers is beyond me.
I experienced many of the same issues discussed here i.e. taking the full amount as opposed to monthly direct debits, but when they attempted to rectify the situation, they cancelled the policy without telling me, then increased the premium once they realised the policy should not have been cancelled. Eventually it was all sorted and off I went.

Having gone to Aviva with 12 years no claims I was shocked that they only provide evidence of 5 years. this is their policy. Having called their indian call centre and speaking to one of their agents they put the phone down once I made a complaint. I have now been assured on 3 occassions that they will send me out the correct proof. 4 phone calls later and serveral promises later I am still waiting.
