Unfortunately Aviva use a 0844 number for their customers to contact them. This is charging by the back door. I had to ring them when we changed our car. As well as being charged to change the policy, which of course I accept, we were charged over £5 for the phone call. that is not true, Aviva is wrong, It is illegal to insure the same vehicle at the same time, You need to send them in prove of your new insurance cert and the date the insurance commenced. They will have to refund you in full. If they still argue with you I would call the Insurance federation or the Ombudsman. I am sure they would be interested to hear your case. I have just spoken with an Aviva customer services rep via their 'live chat' service. I mentioned the quotes I had received from competitors and the rep took time to see if they could reduce the renewal price. It seems Aviva are good value for money until you try to claim. They will then do everything possible to wriggle out of paying up. Be wary. The maximum NCD Aviva offer is 5 years. That means when they send you your renewal notice it will only ever say 5 years, even if you have more. When I moved to another company and they asked for proof of no claims they at first didn’t accept the renewal notice from Aviva and required further convincing of my actual NCD total. This information is incorrect. Aviva only require 5 years No claims discount in order to give you the maximum discount, which is with any company around 70%. If Aviva recieve proof of more than 5 years from you, although their policy documents will state 5, the will keep the extra that you have on file and when you come to leave, so long as you havent had any unprotected claims in the meantime, they will award you with proof of your full amount of No claims years, plus whatever time you have been with them.

Thie reply is actually incorrect Aviva do not automaticlly keep the additional no claims on file. . I verified this through a formal complaint and this has was upheld and the issue acknowledged by the company.
