Having searched many booklets for a nice october break we came across John Fowler holiday park booklet, all looked very nice and welcoming on paper so we decided to book a week at the Ilfracoombe park... WELL we have just returned 5 days early from our weeks holiday, IT WAS DISCUSTING and i really could not stay another day or night!!!.We booked a chalet with breath taking sea views, the book said these chalets were also high standard, upon entry to the park it seemed very nice, nice pool and a couple of shops, we collected our chalet key from the office and made way to our chalet, opened the door and nearly fell over from the smell that greeted me and my young family.. our joys and smiles soon turned to tears and misery. the chalet was cold, damp and dirty, something you wouldnt even put your pet dog in, the views were of bushes untill you stood on tip toes to see over the bushes and not the breath taking sea views we thought,50 steep steps to the privatly owned beech and once there you had to climb over rocks and pebbles to get to the sea (not nice !!)our first night was total misery we all had to cram into one smaller than average sized double bed as the other bedroom was damp and mouldy and i would not let my children sleep in it, morning came and all the internal walls were damp,i have a young baby and we wouldnt lay her on the floor as the carpets were dirty and smally, i complained to the reception but was told there was nothing they could do about it so we decided to give it one more day to see if this would improve, during the day our 7 yr old went to the pool, this was lovely and warm probably the best part of the holiday park (BUT wait for it)" the life guard told us his qualification for life guarding had run out but he did watch the children to make sure they were safe and was overall a nice chap, later in the day another life guard was on duty, he spent the whole time sitting in a shed reading a book with a cigarett with his back turned on the pool !!!! so we had to stay and watch the children play. the evening entertainment was very poor too.. i really could go on and on but i think you have got an idea now of how bad this was. I now have to wash every item of clothing we took with us even tho most items are unworn as they all smell musty from the stench of the chalet wardrobes. needless to say we wont be returning i have had to give this a star as there is not an option for Zero, my rating for this park is 0/10

We stayed at Sandaway Beach Holiday Park during the easter break, caravan very clean and tidy cant complain about that, site is small and quiet, has an outdoor pool which is heated, so kids did manage to go in they also have a small amusement are, with few arcade machines in and a small soft play area for little ones. In the main club which is also quite small they do pub meals and there own entertainment, also a shop on site but dont really stock a lot just basics really. The roads to site ar ...- Read Pebbles35's review (178 words)

I read other peoples reviews like (had to cook my own breakfast) or (travel down in a banger) and laugh!!! Yes the roads are narrow and there are some sharp bends but its Devon!! On the coast it is as it should be nice and natural!! No massive roads linking every town and old tracks all over the place. I have a 12 yr old a 6 yr old and a three yr old and they love it there, lost of rock pools and walks!! You don't go on hol to spend your time in the pubs or arcades!!! I found the staff helpful a ...- Read paulapoppet's review (185 words)

I have camped at another John Fowler site Widemouth Bay and thoroughly enjoyed it there a lot more to do during the day, the camp site was a lot more practical.
I do like John Fowler holidays Sandaway beach was a bit of a let down, so I wouldn't recommend this site, but I would recommend Widemouth Bay for camping!- Read evonne20's review (230 words)

On arriving at the site, I complained about the pitch to the Manager.
By Sunday morning we had enough and drove down the road and booked into a brilliant site called NAPPS a 5 star site who had a few more campers who like us left the Sandaway site. To sum up I tried to give my feedback to a John fowler Duty manager who was not interested, I even provided other site for them to compare price, service and pitch but was told we do not compare other sites. John Fowlers need to wise up people will v ...- Read Paulie25's review (163 words)

Nice place if you want a relaxing time. More for older people that like walking or staying on the park. You would have to travel about half hour to get to nice town. Lots of hills and dangerous bends.- Read dkj1234's review (64 words)

The beach not safe, there were loose rocks all around waiting to fall. The beach doesn't look anything like in the brochure i.e the picture shows golden sand and rocks in reality it is black shale stones and rocks. If you have teenagers like me they might end up being very bored as amusements left a lot to be desired. The site itself is ok if you are looking for a peaceful holiday but I won't go again, back to Dorset for me.- Read colin111's review (103 words)

The park was kept clean and my 3 children absolutely loved it at Sandaway Beach. Personally speaking for myself and my wife, the park wasn't what we expected but we loved the coastal walks and a couple of trips to the beach, but as long as my children enjoyed themselves that's good enough for us.- Read smithjamie69's review (106 words)

Sandaway Beach is a very quiet park, more suited to adults and perhaps very young children as there are limited facilities for entertainment (a bar, a ball pit and an outside swimming pool) though as I say you can use the facilities at the other two parks. Combe martin has some reasonable places to eat at. I personally like and enjoy this park, it makes a good place from which to explore all that north Devon has to offer...and yet a place of peace to return to afterwards.
