Good Points: Club facilities, Park and swimming pool, staff, entertainment
Bad Points: Accomodation (chefs corner on arrival), waiting for keys, lack of security cover, drunken teenagers
General comments: Winners week, (or loosers week) - we attended winners week and where pleasantly surprised compared to the other parks we have stayed at, large club on a very large site, the facilities where immaculate, well it would be being the flag ship. There was the favourite winners and very few winners from the other parks. We where disappointed by the results of some of the judges in the talent competitions as we thought some of the competitors where better than the winners. We tried the chefs corner while we where waiting for our key and the burgers we received, the bread bun was still chilled at the bottom, when we complained, it had been put on the warmer and the whole meal was solid, and was disgusting, later on in the day and the rest of the week the meals we ate where plentyfull and very nice We were kept waiting for our key they told us when the key would be ready (increments of hour hour) from 1.00pm we got our key at 4.00pm, and when we did receive them we where placed in the Celandine accomodation, which when we asked fro accomodation nearby due to health reasons with 2 of our party this was ignored, we where eventually moved to accommodation nearby, the heating never worked, which at the start of November it was a requirement and drafts coming through the windows. There was no vacuum cleaner to clean up and there was limited utensils, if you required an iron, we had to hire one from the amusement arcade, there was no one hardly there to assist. We did clean the carpet with a hand brush as we where fed up of bits sticking to our feet and ending up in the beds, the dust and dirt that was swept off the carpets made us think that the carpets had never been vacuumed in weeks. My tale of woe does not stop here, there was a presence of security, but they might as well not been there, there was youngsters walking round, who where worse the wear for drink, teenagers running round causing mayhem, on the Wednesday night there was a teenager smoking in the club, when she was told about this by a guest she was abusive. Other than that entertainment 1st class and the chefs corner tasty plentiful and worth it, bar staff warm friendly, these good points where over shadowed by the bad points ALAS, Any future holidays at Ilfracombe? I doubt it very much

We have just returned from a week in a Royal Gold apartment at Ilfracombe, it was spotlessly clean, the bedding etc was definitely NOT damp, it was well looked after and they even provide a toilet roll!! There was a dishwasher, personally we would have preferred a washing machine.

Had a weeks break at Ilfracombe. Not much on site but food and drink was good value for money.
The Stripey coats did thier best to entertain and were very good with the kids but there really is'nt a lot for kids to do here.
There is a good bus service which runs outside the park to take you to ilfracombe.
All in all, value for money out of school holidays and more suitable for adults than children.

Because we were unable to go on a holiday abroad this year (2008) me and my partner decided to go for a short break in John Fowler holiday park in Ilfracombe Devon..... What a mistake that turned out to be. After driving for 3 hours to get there we turned into the park which at first glance looked really over crowded for September, my partner went to get the keys and came back with a map of where our apartment was and a set of keys. We had trouble finding anywhere to park despite the fact that w ...

Was really looking forward to our holiday upon the recommendation from family who have been to JFH in Cornwall twice and had a great time!
Returned from holiday 2 days early as fed up of noise and staff's lack of help. Arrived about 4.30pm had to queue for around 20 mins to get keys, got to our apartment which was on the ground floor of a three storey block and upon opening door we were greeted with the smell of what I would describe as damp.
We soon realised that the walls were paper thin as we ...

The whole holiday was a waste of money, certainly not worth £600 for a week. I will definitely not be going to a John Fowler Camp ever again.

Location - Ilfracombe is a nice town, which is a relief as the park is utterly rubbish so you won't want to spend much time there. Do NOT take small children to this park - there is absolutely nothing for them to do whatsoever. There is a very small area with a couple of swings but your local municipal park will almost certainly have more to do. Our kids thought the place was boring. There was rubbish dumped near our apartment (an old sofa and a rusty cooker) and the beds were uncomfortable. ...

Just got back from John Fowler holiday park. We really enjoyed our 4 night stay it was ideal for the three young kids, entertainment was excellent every night. I would recommend eating in the farmhouse restaurant directly opposite under the archway. Eat there on the last evening, best food we had all week.

We went to John Fowler, Illfracombe holiday park during August 2008 and paid over £850 for a week in their 'Royal Gold Bungalow'accommodation. We booked after looking at their holiday brochure, what an absolute waste of our money was this and I would not recommend this park to anyone, I came away feeling rotten for parting with £850 to stay on this holiday park.
1. When you book a holiday for your family and you are paying for the 'top' accommodation available on the holiday park ...

I just returned from John Fowler Holiday in Ilfracombe. I was disappointed with accomodation, very small, although credit due, it was clean. Buttercup apartment stated it slept 6-8 in brochure but it was a push with 4 adults & 2 children. Tiny kitchen - had new microwave but nowhere nearby to plug in unless we unplugged the fridge.
Bathroom tatty, no basic things like hooks or rails to hang towels.
Toilet leaked, called maintenance, arrived prompt but said it was condensation off shower & to lea ...

We have just returned from a Monday/Friday John Fowler holiday at Ilfracombe Holiday Park with our friends.
We had a fantastic time. We stayed in the Royal Gold apartment and found the room very clean and acceptable for the money.
We have a young son and prior to having him were used to holidaying in Australia/Singapore etc so we really didn't know what to expect but we had a great time and would def go again.
Upon booking we asked if our friends could have the room next door which they acc ...

I have just come back from a weekend away, and was really worried about going to Ilfracombe after I read the reviews. But I was too late as I booked the holiday two days before.
I could not find any changing cubicles in the swimming pool building, just a small open space with a few hooks, and no lockers! So you must have to walk to the pool in your swimwear! And leave your clothes at in the accommodation unless you mind leaving your belongings unattended.
The arcade seemed small, for a 'big and ...

We have just returned from a week at the site in Ilfracombe and to be quite honest I think a lot of the people from these reviews were on a completly different park .
From the minute we arrived the staff were very friendly and very helpful. The comment about the shop not stocking much, not being funny what is the point of them stocking expensive items as toilet rolls when most people would probably go to the Tesco's next door were it is cheaper any way. As for food being in polystyrene box the ...

I was extremely disappointed with the John Fowler holiday park in Ilfracombe. My first impressions where "what have we done! We were a party of 14 people (8 adults and 6 children under 10). We were given our key (we have a 6 month old girl) to our chalet and upon open the door was greeted by a huge waft of cigarette smell. The only plus point was when you actually leave the holiday park your can enjoy the beautiful places in Devon! Will never go back and will not recommend to anyone!

We stayed at Easter in a Buttercup three bedroom chalet. 2 adults, 3 children. There was plenty of space in the chalet and a lovely sunny, grassy area in front for the children to play - far better than the cramped newer areas. However, the chalet was in desperate need of updating and modernisation and was not that clean when we moved in. I borrowed a Henry Hoover from reception for a couple of hours and felt much better after a quick blast round! It was also very damp and cold in the downst ...

Just got back this afternoon from John Fowler and after being to 4 different parks, this one is definitely the best. I was in a party of 7 ( 3 adults and 4 children) and everyone thought it was great. Stayed in a new bungalow with 3 bedrooms with dvd player and freeview box which was great in the mornings before foxy club. The stripeys ( Danny Jay, Jenny, Jay Jay and Sammy) were brilliant and kept everyone entertained from 6 till after midnight plus in the mornings at the club. Would definitely ...

I went to the Ilfracombe Park on the 15th September to the 22nd September. There was me my husband and my 2 year old daughter along with my Mum, Dad and Nan. We had booked a royal gold bungalow which we got half price because we booked early. We arrived at the park around 2pm and went to see if our accommodation was ready the very helpful lady at reception said that it wasn't quite ready but we were more then welcome to have a drink in the bar or use any of the facilities. We decided to have a d ...
