Me and my partner have just got back from a quick get away week to ilfracombe. Having booked a short break months ago and the week slowly creeping up, i decied to have a quick look at any reviews online. To my shock all i could find were terrible comments.

Once we arrived things didnt seem to bad, the park was clean and tidy the reception staff were fine (if a little bit rude that we brought the wrong information) but we quickly got our keys and to our chalet, although i was expecting a wait.

We drove from what was a lovely entrance with nice apartments to a horrible 1950's era chalets. Once the door was opened you could smell the stench of them trying ever so hard to cover up the damp and mold. Looking around the basics were clean however the curtins were covered in mold, the wardrope stunk and the bath was so dirty with limescale (i could go on). My break was ruined.

We decided as it was now getting on to spend the night here and first thing find a B&B. Now things weren't as bad, so we took a stroll into the town. On our way out my partner said i wonder how much it will cost to upgrade to one of the newer apartments we first hoped for. so he went to enquire, we were sold stragiht away with the receptionists description,so she checked for a avaiblilty and found us a room. expecting to pay my partner had cash prepared which is were she told us how we upgraded for free. Even better.

The new place was lovely, clean tidy not a thing to complain about. It was much bigger then what was the smallest little place i had seen. it really made our trip worth while.

overall it was worth it. If you do find yourself with a horrible dingy room just ask. it really does make or break a holiday.

Having searched many booklets for a nice october break we came across John Fowler holiday park booklet, all looked very nice and welcoming on paper so we decided to book a week at the Ilfracoombe park... WELL we have just returned 5 days early from our weeks holiday, IT WAS DISCUSTING !!!.We booked a chalet with breath taking sea views, the book said these chalets were also high standard, upon entry to the park it seemed very nice, nice pool and a couple of shops, we collected our chalet key fro ...

We booked a holiday at this park expecting it to be basic, I had read the reviews online and was resonably optimistic about it. But as soon as we got there the entire party wanted to turn around and drive the 7 hour trip home. It was nothing like the lovely little apartments we were shown online and in the brochure. It was tiny and full of damp. Door handles were broken as well as the bath being cracked. The freezer was also broken, but they did come and fix this the next day. The food at the ba ...

Returned from the Golden Coast Holiday Park after just one night! Had booked to stay for a week, but the Cornflower chalet in which we were staying was utterly disgusting and we could only manage a night there. The smell from the chalet was revolting and made us feel quite sick and the sofa bed and armchair were filthy dirty and stinking. The fridge rattled loudly each time it went off, the microwave timer didn't work at all and the window frame in the sitting room had a large and dirty gapin ...

Just got home from Ilfracombe Holiday Park and feel I really need a holiday to get over it. The site is un-cared for with rows of 3 storey apartment blocks which are very dark but ours was clean except for the smell from the kitchen sink and the shower basin! Being the end of the season the staff appeared to have lost the will to live and were quite rude and openly ridiculed the guests and entertainment (especially the bar staff). The pool changing area needs some serious tlc, parts of the flo ...

I was staying in a 3 year old apartment...(laughably called "Royal Gold") I was expecting clean, new(ish) and well apointed. What I got was scruffy and well past its use by date. The walls were so thin I could smell next doors cooking!! The toaster hadn't been mooved. There was a hard boiled egg underneath the bed!!! The entertainment was fine. The pool small but useable. The staff were most pleasent. A good location, but the sight was disappointing in too many areas.

We got back from our holiday yesterday and was very sorry to leave!! Accommodation was very clean and welcoming. We took my Gran with us and she is currently awaiting 2 hip operations, but she found it fine under foot and enjoyed herself. Beds were very comfy and clean.
Down side was that parking was terrible. There should be allocated parking per apartment. There was a couple of nights that we had to park a distance from our accommodation because no parking space were left.
    Other downside ...

We stayed at the Ilfracombe John Fowler Holiday Park from the 12th Sept 2009 for one week. This was our cheapest holiday to date as we booked a smaller chalet.
Booking in took a little while, but only because everyone seemed to arrive at once. Our chalet was very clean as were all the utensils and bedding. There was a little mould in the bathroom window, but in all honesty nothing to moan about as it didn't affect our holiday one bit.
We always take the view that we get what we pay for and so eve ...

Compared to other John Fowler parks Ilfracombe Holiday Park was tatty and badly laid out. The entertainment was poor compared to previous years with no professional entertainers, just the stripey coats. We went for the top class 'bungalow' which was a basic chalet surrounded by other apartments which made it very dark. We had to carry luggage up several flights of steps from the car park and our accomodation was not ready on arrival. The snack bar was not open when it should have been and t ...

when we arrived at Ilfracombe Holiday Park we had been told we were upgraded to an apartment which was meant to slep 4-6 people but the dining table only had 4 chairs to it. the kitchen was very small and the pull out be-settee was poor. although the rooms were large and were up to a decent standard, looking out of the windows there was over-grown grassy hill and was very un-attractive. we had no loks on the bedrom OR BATHROOM doors and the shower was a disgrace, the drainage hole was very slow ...

Well what can I say about Ilfracombe Holiday Park,we arrived home yesterday 01/08/09 after a weeks holiday here, when we first arrived at our so called 'quality high standard chalet' I was nearly knocked off my feet by the foul stench that greeted me the minute I walked in the door :-| it smelt so fusty & damp almost like it had never had a spot of cleaning in years, very dingy. There was only one storage heater in the living/dining/kitchen area & that only seemed to work when it felt like it & th ...

Sandaway beach. Combe Martin. (JOHN FOWLER) Absolutely awful place! Staff very unhelpful and rude. No proper parking space had a tree in the way and was at the back of the caravan so had to drag all of luggage around the front down some steps and around an overgrown bush. The actual parking space was terrible and had to reverse out in front of the neighbouring caravan door!! (This was in a Silver caravan so dread to think what a Bronze caravan was like) as the cupboards were hanging off. Guests ...

Just got back from john fowlers ilfracombe. We had a lovely time all staff were very helpful and polite. the entertainment staff were brilliant both me and my husband and the kids loved the evening entertainment. we stopped in one of the cheaper apartments it was very basic but it had everything we needed and was clean. I also checked the John Fowler reviews before going and was a little worried, however with 7 of us sharing a Royal Gold Bungalow we really couldn't complain, it wasn't too crowded although the bathroom and kitchen were a little small we were all comfortable.

The pool was clean and the kids loved it, it was very handy as it rained all week, the tesco's is a two minute walk and so eating in is easy and inexpensive. The park is a little dated and the newer accommodation is definately a lot better ...

I stayed for a 4 night break on 20 July. Got a really good deal on the price for a studio appartment to sleep 4 (had a sperate bedroom and bed sofa). Accomodation was basic, but clean, and served it's purpose.

The Childrens entertainment was excellent, there was Foxy club in the evening, with dancing and games, and on 1 night a visist from some of the animals at Coombe Martin Dinasour and Animal park, another night there was a childrens entertainer. Bingo was fun with both kids and adult p ...

We went for a week between 18th and 25th July. Having been abroad with the kids for the last 7 years it was new to us to holiday in the UK. The weather forecast was dire and having read some poor reviews a few days before we went we were nervous about quiet what to expect!
Check In - We arrived at half 2 - our room wasn't ready but they said to check back at 3, which we did and it was ready. I can't understand why people complain they have to wait for their keys when it clearly states that ro ...

overall Ilfracombe Holiday Park is just a boring and athetic place to book a holiday at.. there is no where for the children to play and the worst thing about it is that its built right on a main road and nothing to stop young children from running out. In my opinion i would never ever think about going back there again.

Got back yesterday from the Ilfracombe Holiday park, thank god for that. Thought we would stay here for a change instead of a hotel. When we got into the chalet and opened the door had to go round with my body spray but it didnt help. Grill wouldnt work unless it was on the highest setting, had to turn water on and off manually, table and chairs with one chair, all food closes at 9 and last orders ay 8.30, shop closes at 12.30 and reopens at 4.30 so its closed for hours in the afternoon, amusem ...
