Good Points: Nice APY on savings accounts
Bad Points: Very dishonest, poor customer service
General comments: If you are seriously considering opening any bank account with Citibank, read this story. I opened an Ultimate Money Account (a high-yield savings account) and an EZ-Checking Account with Citibank. I put $850 into both accounts via electronic checks from my existing checking account. Within 3 business days, there was $850 in both accounts according only to Citibank. Since my existing checking account had been slow before to show a balance change, I thought everything was fine. 4 days later I buy $40.17 of items using the check card Citibank sent me. I check my balance in both accounts after the purchase and both accounts had zero balances. Since it was late at night, I waited until tomorrow to call Citibank. When tomorrow came, both accounts were overdrawn and Citibank wanted me to pay them returned electronic check fees. The first time I called to complain I got some lady who couldn't speak English very well and wanted to blame their mess on me so she could get off the phone. I mentioned closing the accounts and the phone went dead immediately. I call again and after going through the answering service the phone again goes dead without letting me speak to anybody. I call again and once again get someone who spoke poor English and after a lot of complaining I got rid of the electronic check fees and am in the process of closing both accounts. But, I have to pay them $40.17 to cover the purchase that they botched and take a hit to my credit score. All I get for compensation is $0.39 interest. Pathetic. If you don't want to risk losing your money, your good credit score, and your hair, DO NOT open a bank account with Citibank.

I am amazed at the apparent lack of thought that seems to go into some of the banking sites. I have used Bank of America and it is by far the best. Important perks to me are setting bill payments when you want them delivered rather than sent. It also doesn't seem that it would be much of a stretch to show your current ledger balance AND your balance minus whatever disbursements are scheduled. For many of us these are important bits of information that make a difference day-to-day. There really i ...

I recently opened an account with them, and I tried out their internet banking. Unfortunately, their internet banking system is below par when compared with other UK banks.
Usually, with other major banks, you could easily schedule future BACS payments by them allowing you to set-up a future date, or schedule future payments instantly after setting up a bill payee, but not with Citibank. 'Your new payee account will be set-up in 2 working days.' How very efficient! By the way, the staff on th ...

I should mention that I am terrible at math, and I tend to have some creative banking ideas. Citibank web services have been able to accommodate all my banking quirks. Customer service in the bank and on the phone has been excellent. I would never go back to paper checks. I have never had any additional fees or surprises. I have had as many as 50 payees on my schedule, and for a time I had decided to pay them all weekly just to see if it would affect the interest I was paying and leave me m ...

CitiBank online Banking Service is ridiculous. Last year, I opened an account, which they said to make 2 x 100 dollars (if you save a minimum of $1500, and pay two checks in of no less than 20 dollars each month). Unfortunately, I never got any rebate. In addition, now, I totally dislike their service, and I tried to take out my money, but they charged me 60 dollars because of their tricks. By the way, when I asked them to close my account the first time, the representative hung up on me! I can ...

I had a terrible time setting up my EZchecking account with Citibank Internet Banking, due to the poor system at Citibank itself. Their email responses to complaints are canned and impersonal i.e. computer generated. They charge $3.00 to electronically transfer money from my Citibank account to an external account I own. They cannot set up automatic (monthly) transfers of funds in either direction between Citibank and external accounts, and there are various other hidden fees and limitations.

The Citibank Internet Banking web interface is extremely basic, barely enough for basic banking services. The webpages literally look like they have been put together in a rush to start the service and get your money.
I tried to access it from abroad and it always took forever to simply load the homepage citibank.co.uk. Finding the sort code of your account requires quite a bit of navigation within the website (it's not mentioned in the papers they send you), and if you do it from abroad it tak ...

Spyware tracking of your banking transaction is now mandatory.
Citibank has started forcing you to allow 3rd party cookies to track your movements when you pay bills, review your bank statements, make money transfers, and handle investments. Allowing this intrusion use to be optional.
I think it is appalling that you don't even have privacy when you are performing banking transactions. The only cookies that should be required are those from citibank.com, not other websites. This starte ...
