Natwest have switched me to this account which I never requested. Only recently to find out all this time they have been charging me for this account. Asked them what is all this about they told me is for the account and I have to continue to pay for it. Having then read some reviews I found out about moneysmartco. In just under 4 weeks moneysmartco got me back just over £2k and Natwest were very apologetic about the whole thing. I did not have to do any work. Moneysmartco done everything for me and I received the money directly from Natwest. I couldn't have asked for more from moneysmartco.

I have advantage gold account for over 10 years, never claimed anything, now for a mobile claim, they are just delaying even after 3 weeks. Worst customer service.

Called up to get a preferential travel money rate and they use travelex as their company. i checked the rate travelex offered - €350 euros was £305.81 this was gonna cost me £312.xx with my preferential rate. only costs travelex 1.95 to deliver to home so the preferential rate is still higher than whats available. this is a JOKE of a service.

Very quick to take your money, very slow to process a claim. They seem to drag things out as long as possible.

My experience is absolutely in line with other reviewers. After ten years with NatWest and four with Gold Advantage two weeks ago I submitted a claim for a stolen I-Phone. I have been spending huge amount of time and endless calls to an expensive 0845 number with no results ... after two weeks still no decision on my claim. I realised that I cannot trust the insurance facilities included in the NatWest 'package' (I am glad I realised this with the Phone Insurance and not with something more serious concerning the travel insurance instead). I will immediately downgrade my account and move my money to another bank! Do not waste your time/money with this!

Got mobile phone insurance with the account and tried to claim on it after my Blackberry joined me in the river, following an accident, and wouldn't work even after I tried to dry it out. Spent 30 minutes on the phone to the insurer CPP who then told me that it would take up to five weeks to either get me a refurbished phone, replacement or cash equivalent. The Advantage Gold advert says: "Whatever would you do without your mobile phone?" - the answer is you are stuffed and cannot wait while they send you an envelope to return the phone by registered post at your expense, pay them £25 policy excess up front, they then send the phone to their "clinic" to be examined, then contact you again, and eventually do something about it. I was forced to buy a new mobile at Carphone Warehouse as I need it in my job as a travel writer. CPP said it was a procedure they had to follow! Complained to Natwest and unless I am reimbursed will move my 30 year old account to Halifax. Be warned, this insurance isn't worth the paper it is written on.

i work for natwest persoanlly, and have seen many people try to claim with the mobile phone insurance, i would advise anyone to not use this packaged account, as essentially it is a scam!

I have been a victim of Aston Midshires fraud insurance and paid £1500 on my credit card - Natwest insist I have no right for my money back the Ombudsmand wrote to Natwest asking them to review and still they keeep sending me a letter every week telling me they are still collecting evidence - I have sent them all the evidence they need and so did the Ombudsman on the 1st Feb. The fraud squad in London recognises I am a victim of fraud but somehow Natwest don't. Every other victim not banking with Natwest have been paid but me. I feel so cheated having banked with them for 28 years - I cannot wait for this to be settled so I can run away from them and close all my accounts and stop paying for my advantage gold which to me seems as bad as the Aston Midshires fraud company - Beware Natwest Bank does not value your custom and does not care about anyone as their client all they care about is money and would go as far a mislead you to prevent giving you what is yours. Keep away and never open an account with them THEY ARE A HORRIBLE BANK - UNHELPFUL - UNLISTENING - UNFRIENDLY - i HAVE NOT CHOICE BUT TO GIVE THEM ONE STAR BUT THEY DON'T EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR

My mother had a heart attack in UK when my family were on holiday in Europe. I flew back that day to UK but she died before I got back. NatWest Travel Insurance advised my husband that curtailment would be the return to UK of the family. They have nitpicked every detail on the travel claim and will only pay for my flight not the families return to UK. Our holiday ended. They are dreadful, callous, awful, nasty people. DO NOT USE THEM.

Biggest waste of money ever I have been paying 3 years and never used the service. Only to cover my phone for insurance! I finally had a problem with my phone and made a claim only to get rejected! So it works out i payed over £900 for a service i never recived and when i did want to use it my claim got declined. Dont use this service its shocking and the homecare/cpp mobile phone insurance company are the worst i have ever delt with. When processing my claim the only contact was by phone, they charge premium rate the phone bills on thier own added up to over £40. not including the time it took to process the claim form, etc. I hope you read this and understand that its a big con. Dont subcribe to the service. I personally wish i saved the money in my BANK! Thank you for listing, please tell your friends to avoid the problems i have had.

Yes, I have never used it either. I am now trying for the first time to book a hotel with this service and I have been left hanging on for over twenty minutes both times with music in the background but no-one to at least acknowledge they will get back to me. PRETTY USELESS SERVICE ALL ROUND

My accident wasn’t actually the ‘right sort of accident’ which meant the ‘Accidental Cover’ did not apply to my phone claim. I have been a Natwest Customer for over a decade, have never made a claim, and have substantial investments through them in various products. I will be removing all my products within the next 3 months as a result of the insurance fiasco. Do not use the Advantage Gold, as quite simply there is not advantage.

Awful!!!!!! Same story as everyone else, phone got accidently damaged, 3rd party insurer said I did not take enough "reasonable precautions" and would not cover the claim. Absolutely furious as I didn't take out the Iphone4 insurance specifically due to being covered by my bank account. Now £400 out of pocket and severely annoyed at Natwest!

I'm in same situation. Currently waiting a response from Financial Ombudsman Service as I will not let them get away with it. If we all report them to FOS something may eventually be done about them!
Written on: 06/06/2011
my story almost exactly the same. I too will be writing to the ombudsman. Doubtful we will get a result, but the false advertising culture of banks has to stop. NatWest Advantage gold does not offer 'Accident Damage' cover, simple as that!!

Absolute Joke. Lost my phone 3 weeks ago so phoned vodaphone and blacklisted it. Faxed and posted prrof of purchase and claim form along with prrof of black listing. Rang them up to see where my claim was and got told still waiting for proof of blacklisting to which i informed them it had been sent. The guy said they didnt have it so i phoned vodaphone and got them to email them direct. Phoned back and the guy looked and said yep i have it , we now have all we need and your claim can be proccesed. 3 days later ring up and guess what. No proof of blacklisting recieved. Furious ive been back and forward for the last week with this proof of blacklisting and its still not sorted. I thought these people were suppost to be intelligent ! actually i think you could train a monkey to do a better job. And why cant they just contact the network provider and get these details??? ill be cancelling advantage gold soon as its sorted. Please avoid like the plaigue its really really bad service.

Have been a loyal customer of NatWest for over 15 years and always gold account. Switched this year from O2 to the banks free phone insurance. BIG MISTAKE.
After being resisted since Jan 2011 we put a claim in during end of March. Wife dropped the phone. Only to be told 6 weeks later and loads of email and phone calls that when we joined we put the 0 and the 8 round the wrong way on the signing up form. Funny how the bank accepted all the details as correct.
So I allegedly entered the wrong digit. But they still proceeded the claim sent us all the paper work and we passed all the security checks. Only to be told the policy has been cancelled by the bank. Funny that since the policy was set up Jan and was still active. And when they merged my wife's policy with mine it was still active. Only when we checked what was happening with our claim we were told it was cancelled.
DON'T GET CAUGHT AVOID

i have been natwest gold advantage account holder for the last 8 years, about 6 weeks ago I have lost my blackberry phone, as per procudre I have reported to the police and inform my provider to block the phone. I have informed the natwest and my claim was accepted after 3 weeks, I was told the phone will be with me within 48,I stayed home for 2 days, the phone never arrived, when I have called the natwest they gave me the phone of the company that provides the service ( genusis). Genusis told me your phone is sent by recorded delivery and you need to wait between 48hours to 15 days. After 15 days I still have no phone and natwest told me the issue is between u and the genusis, nothing to do with natwest. excellent service

I can't believe you have to register every user for the mobile phone insurance, because my daughter used my phone and broke the glass it was declined has she was not registered to use it.
Does that mean we have to register every known burglar just incase someone breaks into our house and we have not registered them.
Sorry your claim has been declined because you did not register this person who robbed your house.
The fact that I have banked with Natwest for many many years and never made a claim doesn't get considered.

This happened to me too! However I complained that the online policy details were too vague and misleading and contradicted the policy documents.I arguedthat it was implied that family were covered and did not need to be registered separately and BINGO they backed down and paid the claim! So don't take no for an answer!

None existant customer services, terms and conditions pretty much get them out of any insurance claim and the member loan rate is worth about £1. Rip off at £12 a month, I shall be cancelling mine.

I placed my mobile phone in my back pocket of my jeans, and when I came in, I put the jeans in the wash with the rest of my clothes. When going through a detailed explanation of my actions with Nat West, they then declined my claim. Why!! I thought this was covered under 'Accidental Damage'. They advised me that I am responsible for my own belongings and I was aware of the phone in my back pocket. Whereas if my husband put my jeans in the wash (obviously unaware of the phone in my pocket) I could pursue my claim. This insurance is worthless and they will try and worm their way out of every situation when it comes to paying out.

Exactly the same story here. I was told that 'it wasnt the right type of accident'. I am removing all of my products from NatWest. Absolute thieving corporate shaftsubkers, yet it is all legal due to the T&C's, which pretty much exclude them from ever paying out.

You've gotta admit though - that was adumb thing to do. Seems a fair tax on stupidity to me... lol

I've just had a claim for a damaged mobile phone refused on the grounds that it was in the hands of somebody else when it was dropped. It was! It was in my son's hands as it was his phone (I own his contract) and naturally he has permission to use it and is the only user. CPP claim that his details should have been submitted - I registered online and have no recollection of being asked to include named authorised users so if they did ask it was well and truly buried and ambiguous. Nat West Advantage Gold site confirms you can add another phone if the person has permission to use it - no mention of having to specify any names. Absolutely furious and so much so that I'm about to change bank and cancel all dealings with Nat West and fully intend to take this matter through the financial ombudsman and, if necessary, through the courts. Been with Nat West for more than 30 years and have been spreading the word about their improved service. My opinion is now of the absolute opposite. The service delivered in regard to this matter contravenes their highly advertised "Customer Charter" in three different areas. I don't cheat others and feel so cheated that I will also be contacting the Office of Fair trading (adverts are misleading) and BBC Watchdog (to ensure that others are not misled) and will see this through to the bitter end. I hope others will take a similar stand and not allow Natwest/CPP to bully them into submission.
