    Good Points: Good looking website
    Good publicity


    Bad Points: All the hidden bad points


    General comments: Their website clearly says if you open a Citibank current account with them, you will have an automatic £500 interest-free overdraft buffer. In fact, it will not be available if you do not have your salary directly credited into your account. They don't even send you a cheque/pay-in book if you do not have £2000 credit in your account. Nothing says so on their T&C's, and why would you put funds in without the ability to use your own money?

    Since their current account offers a gross interest of 0.10% p.a., you thought to maybe open an Flexible Saver Issue 2 with 5.45% gross p.a at the same time, but when you ask for it, you find out you need to earn £25K in order to have such an account. Again, nothing says so on their website.

    If you are trying to setup an account online, good luck. You must have a landline to setup an account. If your only phone is a cell phone or VOIP phone they will not open an account. Also, it appears that the Citibank Direct Current Account customer support is in India, as out of the 6 phone calls I made, 5 had Indian accents.

    I am very happy with my Citibank Direct current account. They were very efficient in setting up the account, which we opened mainly because of the attractive interest rate. You can view the statements online, and they also send paper statements. Otherwise, not much else to say - which is a good thing! They are so much better than Halifax.

    Citibank direct is an excellent service - easy to use - the site is laid out well and it is easy to transfer money and pay bills - can't recommend it highly enough except that sometimes the telephone customer service is irritating, asking too many security questions.
