    Good Points: Plays Everything

Bad Points: Never found Macrovision hack

General comments: Had The Player since it first came out ,got as a second player to my pc setup, always been happy with it, mp3s work great, vcds, svcds, all region dvds and r.c.e discs, only thing i want is a macrovision hack so i can unhook my pc dvd from the video, all in all a great player, even good dts sound to.

I will have owned my 103 2 years come xmas and it's the bomb. It plays everything you throw in it- vcd etc. Cheap discs are no broblem it plays em all. You could use your disc as a coaster and it would still play it. I would buy a couple more if I could get hold of any. Tell me if you know where.

My girlfriend bought this Alba DVD103 DVD player for me for Christmas about 18 months ago (from Argos I think). With her knowing little about DVD and the difference in quality between players she just got the cheapest on out there for me.

I must say, I am very impressed with it. I`ve got it linked into a Videologic Digitheater DTS sound system and it sounds like the dogs knackers!! Never had any problems playing anything I have put in there, R1 and R3 disks work without a problem, VCD and SV ...

I've had my Alba DVD 103 for some time now. It's my first stand-alone player. I got it from ASDA and it's been really good. I've tried CDs, and some (really) cheap CD-Rs, (output through my hi-fi), no problems. (I've read that CD's don't sound as good on DVD players as CD players, but it sounds ok to me.) I've also tried Region 1 NTSC DVDs, which it plays alright, although it has some problems with the display format to my TV. (I have a 4:3 ration PAL50/PAL60 TV. If I set the player to PA ...

My ALBA DVD103 was the first DVD player i got. After reading the excellent reviews about it, it was down to Argos and grab one for me..generally VERY pleased, good pictures and sound and my reg 1 copy of "Tin Men" (Brilliant film!) plays fine. Some mechanism noise while playing...but turn up thevolume and blast it out. My optics need cleaning too.

I was looking forward to going to france to buy me a dvd. then i saw this Alba DVD103 dvd player for only 100. i thought it was a poor dvd player only able to play dvds from region 2 but it didn't-it could play all the discs. The only bad thing about it is that it makes noise while playing.

I have found the Alba DVD103 DVD player good overall, although the laser seems to need cleaning regularly to play dvd's well.

Recently bought a copy of the Burton version of Planet of the Apes and the main disc has an option to view enhanced feature clips of the making of the film as you play it. This Alba DVD103 DVD player seems to be having the same problem as with Independence Day - Special Edition, in that it's replaying scenes from chapters which have the extra film.

The Alba DVD103 DVD player was a good buy to start with. I'm a single mother and can't afford to pay out so when i saw this one i was pleased that i would be able to get one. It worked ok to start with, so i started to replace all my videos with dvd's. Then i put a dvd on to watch and it just wouldn't play. It kept saying wrong region, even on the ones that it would play before. Now i can't afford to replace it and i am left with vcd player instead!

The Alba DVD103 DVD player is superb vfm, played all I've ever thrown at it including svcd, even threw in a bad one to try to stop it but it ploughed on through the bad bits.....and it's multi region, well happy.

WOW!! For £100 you can't go wrong. When I bought this Alba DVD103 DVD player from Argos they told me that the Alba DVD103 had been replaced by a bush model. They claimed it had the exact same spec. After reading 'WHAT HIFI' magazine, I realised the Bush model was not region free, it only played region 2. Also it does not play CD-R or CD-RW. I took it back to Argos and managed to get a ALBA DVD103 from another Argos store. DONT FORGET!!- IT PLAYS CD-Rs AND CDRWs!!!!
The DVD player is sup ...

I mistakenly bought the Alba 103Xi thinking that it was the same as the 103 and fairly quickly found out that the multi-region remote codes for the 103 don't work on it so beware.
HOWEVER and this is a big however, it seems to play just about anything - I have used the following in it successfully: VCD, SVCD, XVCD, DVD, MP3 and audio CD. It also reads 99 min CDs, CDRWs and CDRs so it has to be about the most versatile player around. The only thing it won't play is miniDVD (i.e. DVD format but b ...

I bought the Alba DVD player from Asda last christmas. It has played many region 1 and 2 DVD`s, up until recently that is.. We borrowed a DVD bought from play247.com, it was `A Knight`s Tale` and was region 1... the machine didn`t like it... so maybe that is the end of the road for this machine ?

    ALBA DVD103
For the price, £99.99 (Oct 2001), Argos. This has to the best fair priced DVD. When i got it home, the only feature i was interested in was whether it would play 'white top' VCD's, not saying in the manual, i also inserted a MP3 disk in the machine. Bringing up all the folders/tracks , i can now say this is the best £100 paid.
    Being region free also helps

Good overall system, with many features.....

The ALBA DVD103Xi available from places like ASDA seem to be Region2 ONLY. These ALBA DVD players are also sold at around £130 pounds so TAKE CARE. The remote and facia are slightly different to the DVD103's.
Oh well.. never mind it is still a good machine, the remote foibles seem to have been overcome and the instructions and menu system are very clear.

On the whole, for the average film fan though, this is an excellent machine and gives the viewer a good picture and sound quality - Ideal to buy the kids and to keep them quiet with the latest home entertainment system.

On the down side, for movie purests that like their SPECIAL EDITIONS, then it appears it can't handle it. Likes to take a breather before normal service is resumed. Sorry but you may as well have kids throwing popcorn at you, rustling sweet wrappers and mobile phones going off ...

A DVD player for around £140 isn't unusual these days, but one that plays all regions straight out the box without having to do a Vulcan neck pinch on the remote buttons while opening the tray and praying to Buddha? Not so usual.

Although the number of bad points seems a bit high, they're trivial compared to the machine overall. Yes, it's a yucky 70s silver finish, but it plays all regions. Yes, there's no power switch on the remote, but it plays all regions (I think you see where I' ...
